Abstract
An automated blood glucose control system can provide automatic delivery of glucose control therapy to a subject and receive information about manual glucose control therapy provided to the subject. The automated blood glucose control system can indicate an amount of a bolus of medicament via a control algorithm configured to control blood glucose level in the subject. The automated blood glucose control system can indicate an amount of a manual bolus of medicament, which can be used to model a diminishment of the medicament in the subject over time based at least in part on the manual bolus of medicament.

21 . A glucose level control system configured to generate a dose output for administration of medicament to a subject and receive information about manual glucose control therapy provided to the subject, the glucose level control system comprising:
a user interface controller configured to receive input signals corresponding to user interaction with a user interface; a memory configured to store specific computer-executable instructions and a therapy log; and a hardware processor in communication with the memory and configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:
generate an indication of an amount of a bolus of medicament via a control algorithm configured to generate a dose output for administration of medicament to a subject, wherein the bolus of medicament corresponds to a meal bolus of medicament or a correction bolus of medicament, and wherein the amount of the bolus of medicament is selected by the control algorithm based at least in part on at least one of prior glucose control therapy administered to the subject, data related to the subject, or data related to food consumed by the subject;
generate a display of a manual bolus screen comprising a manual bolus control element and a bolus recommendation comprising the indication of the amount of the bolus of medicament generated by the control algorithm;
receive, via user interaction with the manual bolus control element, an indication of an amount of a manual bolus of medicament;
store, in the therapy log, the indication of the amount of the manual bolus of medicament supplied to the subject and an indication of a time when the manual bolus of medicament was supplied to the subject;
model a diminishment of the medicament in the subject over time based at least in part on the manual bolus of medicament; and
operate the control algorithm for automatic generation of an insulin dose output configured to administer insulin to the subject based at least in part on a time course of activity of the medicament in the subject due to a finite rate of utilization of the medicament and the therapy log, wherein operating the control algorithm for automatic generation of the insulin dose output comprises modifying administration of a bolus of insulin in response to a time interval between the time of the manual bolus and a time of the automatic generation of the insulin dose output being less than or equal to a threshold time interval.
22 . The glucose level control system of claim 21 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least model an accumulation of the manual bolus of the medicament in the subject following subcutaneous infusion of the medicament.
23 . The glucose level control system of claim 21 , wherein modeling the diminishment of the medicament in the subject over time enables an estimate of a future effect of medicament previously infused into the subject.
24 . The glucose level control system of claim 21 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least determine the time interval based at least in part on the therapy log.

The glucose level control system of claim 21 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least modify the administration of the bolus of insulin based on the model of the diminishment of the medicament in the subject over time based at least in part on the manual bolus of medicament.
26 . The glucose level control system of claim 21 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least access in the therapy log a record of the prior glucose control therapy administered to the subject.
27 . The glucose level control system of claim 21 , wherein the prior glucose control therapy administered to the subject comprises at least one of insulin therapy or therapy of a counter regulatory agent.

The glucose level control system of claim 21 , wherein the data related to the subject comprises one or more of a glucose level of the subject, a history of the glucose level of the subject corresponding to a particular meal, a user modification of the amount of the bolus of medicament previously generated, exercise performed by the subject, a ratio of insulin to carbohydrates, or an insulin concentration in the subject.
29 . The glucose level control system of claim 21 , wherein the data related to food consumed by the subject comprises one or more of a meal type, a meal size, a quantity of food, a quantity of carbohydrates, or a history of a glucose level of the subject corresponding to a particular meal.

The glucose level control system of claim 21 , wherein the indication of the amount of the manual bolus of medicament and the indication of the time when the manual bolus of medicament was supplied are stored in the therapy log while the glucose level control system is in an offline state, wherein the offline state comprises the glucose level control system operating in a non-automatic mode or the glucose level control system being disconnected from the subject, and wherein the glucose level control system switches from the offline mode to an automatic mode to operate the control algorithm for automatic generation of the insulin dose output.
31 . A glucose level control system configured to generate a dose output for administration of medicament to a subject and receive information about manual glucose control therapy provided to the subject, the glucose level control system comprising:
a user interface controller configured to receive input signals corresponding to user interaction with a user interface; a memory configured to store specific computer-executable instructions; and a hardware processor in communication with the memory and configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:
receive a meal announcement from a user responsive to the user interaction with the user interface, wherein the meal announcement comprises an indication of a type of a meal consumed or to be consumed by a subject;
determine a meal bolus of insulin to administer to the subject based at least in part on the meal announcement, the meal bolus of insulin comprising an amount of insulin to administer to the subject to compensate for a change in glucose attributable to the meal;
output for display an indication of the meal bolus of insulin;
receive an indication of a requested modification to the meal bolus of insulin from the user; and
operate a control algorithm for automatic generation of an insulin dose output configured to administer insulin to the subject based at least in part on the modification to the meal bolus of insulin, wherein operating the control algorithm for automatic generation of the insulin dose output further comprises modifying administration of a bolus of insulin in response to a time interval between the time of the modification to the meal bolus and a time of the automatic generation of the insulin dose output being less than or equal to a threshold time interval.
32 . The glucose level control system of claim 31 , wherein determining a meal bolus of insulin comprises:
generate an indication of an amount of a bolus of insulin via the control algorithm, wherein the bolus of insulin corresponds to a meal bolus of insulin or a correction bolus of insulin, and wherein the amount of the bolus of insulin is selected by the control algorithm based at least in part on at least one of prior glucose control therapy administered to the subject, data related to the subject, or data related to food consumed by the subject.
33 . The glucose level control system of claim 31 , wherein the indication of the type of the meal consumed or to be consumed by the subject comprises one or more of:
an indication that the meal is a breakfast, a lunch, or a dinner; an indication that the meal comprises an estimated quantity of food; an indication that the meal comprises a less than usual, usual, or more than usual quantity of food; an indication that the meal comprises an estimated quantity of carbohydrates; an indication that the meal comprises a less than usual, usual, or more than usual quantity of carbohydrates; or an indication that the meal comprises an amount of carbohydrates within a range of carbohydrates.
34 . A glucose level control system configured to generate a dose output for administration of medicament to a subject and receive information about manual glucose control therapy provided to the subject, the glucose level control system comprising:
a memory configured to store specific computer-executable instructions; and a hardware processor in communication with the memory and configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:
receive an indication of an amount of a manual bolus of medicament from a user interface, the indication comprising a gesture for entry of the manual bolus of medicament; and
generate a medicament dose output based at least in part on an accumulation of medicament in a subject due to finite rate of utilization of the medicament and an indication of a time when the manual bolus of medicament was supplied to the subject, wherein generating the medicament dose output further comprises modifying administration of a bolus of medicament in response to a time interval between the time when the bolus of medicament was supplied to the subject and a time of the generation of the medicament dose output being less than or equal to a threshold time interval.

The glucose level control system of claim 34 , further comprising a medicament pump configured to administer therapy to the subject, wherein the medicament pump comprises at least one of an insulin pump configured to administer insulin to the subject, a counter-regulatory agent pump configured to administer a counter-regulatory agent to the subject, or a bi-hormonal pump configured to administer both insulin and the counter-regulatory agent to the subject.
36 . The glucose level control system of claim 34 , wherein generating the medicament dose output is further based at least in part on an input parameter comprising a measure of weight, a body mass value, or a body mass index value.

The glucose level control system of claim 34 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least generate a counter-regulatory dose output based at least in part on the indication of the amount of the manual bolus of medicament.
38 . The glucose level control system of claim 34 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:
generate an indication of an amount of a bolus of medicament via a control algorithm configured to generate a dose output for administration of medicament to the subject, wherein the bolus of medicament corresponds to a meal bolus of medicament or a correction bolus of medicament, and wherein the amount of the bolus of medicament is selected by the control algorithm based at least in part on at least one of prior glucose control therapy administered to the subject, data related to the subject, or data related to food consumed by the subject.
39 . The glucose level control system of claim 38 , wherein:
the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:
determine that a difference between the indication of the amount of the manual bolus of medicament and the indication of the amount of the bolus of medicament is greater than a threshold amount; and
in response to determining that the difference is greater than the threshold amount, modify one or more control parameters of a control algorithm configured to generate the medicament dose output, wherein the one or more control parameters are modified based at least in part on the difference.
40 . The glucose level control system of claim 38 , wherein:
the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:
determine that the indication of the amount of the manual bolus of medicament is greater than the indication of the amount of the bolus of medicament by a first threshold amount or that the indication of the bolus of medicament is greater than the indication of the amount of the manual bolus of medicament by a second threshold amount;
when the indication of the amount of the manual bolus of medicament is greater than the indication of the amount of the bolus of medicament by at least the first threshold amount, reduce therapy administered to the subject; and
when the indication of the amount of the bolus of medicament is greater than the indication of the amount of the manual bolus of medicament by at least the second threshold amount, increase therapy administered to the subject.
41 . The glucose level control system of claim 34 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to execute the computer-executable instructions to at least detect that the gesture for entry matches a specified gesture required for entry of the manual bolus of medicament.
42 . The glucose level control system of claim 34 , wherein the gesture for entry of the manual bolus of medicament comprises one or more of:
an input of a sequence of alphanumeric characters; a swipe gesture; an interaction with a touchscreen; or an interaction with a button.
43 . The glucose level control system of claim 34 , wherein generating the medicament dose output is further based at least in part on the glucose level of the subject.
44 . The glucose level control system of claim 34 , wherein:
the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least determine an expected glucose level of the subject based at least in part on the manual bolus of medicament; and generating the medicament dose output is further based at least in part on the expected glucose level of the subject.
45 . The glucose level control system of claim 34 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least generate a recommendation against administering the manual bolus of medicament to the subject.
46 . The glucose level control system of claim 34 , further comprising a wireless electronic communications interface configured to receive the indication of the amount of the manual bolus of medicament from a remote electronic device.
47 . The glucose level control system of claim 34 , wherein receiving the indication of the amount of the manual bolus of medicament comprises receiving an estimate of a meal size or an estimate of a number of carbohydrates consumed by the subject.
48 . The glucose level control system of claim 34 , wherein receiving the indication of the amount of the manual bolus of medicament comprises receiving an estimate of an intensity of exercise engaged in by the subject.
49 . The glucose level control system of claim 34 , wherein the hardware processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least generate the dose output based at least in part on the indication of the amount of the manual bolus of medicament.
50 . The glucose level control system of claim 34 , wherein the manual bolus of medicament is infused through injection therapy or pump therapy.
