Generating dynamic exchange item information for redistributing an exchange item

Abstract

A method includes generating, by a marketplace server of an exchange item marketplace network, exchange item security parameters for an exchange item. The method further includes sending the exchange item security parameters to a first computing device. The method further includes receiving a redistribution request regarding the exchange item from the first computing device, where the request indicates redistributing at least a portion of the exchange item to a second computing device, where the redistribution request includes dynamic exchange item information generated by the first computing device. The method further includes verifying the dynamic exchange item information received from the first computing device. When the verification is favorable, the method further includes generating second exchange item security parameters for the second computing device regarding the at least the portion of the exchange item. The method further includes sending the second exchange item security parameters to the second computing device.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method for redistributing an exchange item in an exchange item marketplace network, the method comprising:
 generating, by a marketplace server of the exchange item marketplace network, exchange item security parameters for an exchange item, wherein the exchange item is associated with exchange item information stored in a marketplace database of the exchange item marketplace network;   sending, by the marketplace server, the exchange item security parameters and the exchange item information to a first computing device of the exchange item marketplace network, wherein the first computing device is associated with secure custody of the exchange item in accordance with a secure custody protocol;   receiving, by the marketplace server, a redistribution request regarding the exchange item from the first computing device, wherein the redistribution request indicates a redistribution approach for redistributing at least a first portion of the exchange item to a second computing device of the exchange item marketplace network, wherein the redistribution request includes dynamic exchange item information generated by the first computing device;   verifying, by the marketplace server, the dynamic exchange item information received from the first computing device; and   when the verification is favorable:
 generating second exchange item security parameters for the second computing device regarding the at least the first portion of the exchange item; 
 modifying, in accordance with the secure custody protocol, the exchange item information with an indication of the redistributed exchange item to produce updated exchange item information; and 
 sending the second exchange item security parameters and the updated exchange item information to the second computing device for facilitating utilization of the at least the first portion of the exchange item. 
   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the redistribution approach further comprises:
 redistributing a second portion of the exchange item to a third computing device of the exchange item marketplace network.   
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 2  further comprises:
 generating third exchange item security parameters for the second computing device; 
 modifying the exchange item information that indicates the redistributed exchange item to produce second updated exchange item information; 
 sending the third exchange item security parameters and the second updated exchange item information to the second computing device for facilitating utilization of the second portion of the exchange item; and 
 storing the third exchange item security parameters and the second updated exchange item information the marketplace database. 
 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 1  further comprises:
 obtaining, by a marketplace server of the exchange item marketplace network, the exchange item information. 
 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 4 , wherein the obtaining comprises one or more of:
 extracting the exchange item information from acquisition information exchanged with an initial computing device during the acquisition of the exchange item by the first computing device; and   receiving the exchange item information from an exchange item issuing server of the exchange item marketplace network in response to a new exchange item establishment request regarding the exchange item.   
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the exchange item security parameters include one or more of:
 a secret key;   a time interval increment;   a generator function identifier; and   a combiner function identifier.   
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the verifying the dynamic exchange item information comprises:
 retrieving the exchange item security parameters from the marketplace database;   generating second dynamic exchange item information based on the retrieved exchange item security parameters;   comparing the second dynamic exchange item information to the received dynamic exchange item information; and   when the comparison is favorable, indicating the dynamic exchange item information is verified.   
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 7 , wherein the generating second dynamic exchange item information comprises:
 performing one or more deterministic functions in accordance with a generator function identifier and a time interval increment utilizing a secret key to produce a dynamic exchange item number portion; and   combining the dynamic exchange item number portion with a static exchange item number portion of the exchange item information in accordance with a combiner function to produce the second dynamic exchange item information.   
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1  further comprises:
 storing, by the marketplace server, the exchange item security parameters in the marketplace database. 
 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 1  further comprises:
 storing the second exchange item security parameters and the updated exchange item information the marketplace database of the exchange item marketplace network. 
 
     
     
         11 . A marketplace server of an exchange item marketplace network, the marketplace server comprising:
 an interface;   memory; and   a processing module operably coupled to the memory and the interface, wherein the processing module is configured to:   generate exchange item security parameters for an exchange item, wherein the exchange item is associated with exchange item information stored in a marketplace database of the exchange item marketplace network;   send, via the interface, the exchange item security parameters and the exchange item information to a first computing device of the exchange item marketplace network, wherein the first computing device is associated with secure custody of the exchange item in accordance with a secure custody protocol;   receive, via the interface, a redistribution request regarding the exchange item from the first computing device, wherein the redistribution request indicates a redistribution approach for redistributing at least a first portion of the exchange item to a second computing device of the exchange item marketplace network, wherein the redistribution request includes dynamic exchange item information generated by the first computing device;   verify the dynamic exchange item information received from the first computing device; and   when the verification is favorable:
 generate second exchange item security parameters for the second computing device regarding the at least the first portion of the exchange item; 
 modify, in accordance with the secure custody protocol, the exchange item information with an indication of the redistributed exchange item to produce updated exchange item information; and 
 sending the second exchange item security parameters and the updated exchange item information to the second computing device for facilitating utilization of the at least the first portion of the exchange item. 
   
     
     
         12 . The marketplace server of  claim 11 , wherein the processing module is further configured to perform the redistribution approach by:
 redistributing a second portion of the exchange item to a third computing device of the exchange item marketplace network.   
     
     
         13 . The marketplace server of  claim 12 , wherein the processing module is further configured to:
 generate third exchange item security parameters for the second computing device regarding the second portion of the exchange item;   modify the exchange item information that indicates the redistributed exchange item to produce second updated exchange item information;   send, via the interface, the third exchange item security parameters and the second updated exchange item information to the second computing device for facilitating utilization of the second portion of the exchange item; and   store the third exchange item security parameters and the second updated exchange item information the marketplace database.   
     
     
         14 . The marketplace server of  claim 13 , wherein the processing module is further configured to generate a first security parameter of the third exchange item security parameters that is different than a corresponding security parameter of the second exchange item security parameters. 
     
     
         15 . The marketplace server of  claim 14 , wherein the processing module is further configured to obtain the exchange item information by one or more of:
 extracting the exchange item information from acquisition information exchanged with an initial computing device during the acquisition of the exchange item by the first computing device; and   receiving, via the interface, the exchange item information from an exchange item issuing server of the exchange item marketplace network in response to a new exchange item establishment request regarding the exchange item.   
     
     
         16 . The marketplace server of  claim 11 , wherein the processing module is further configured to generate the exchange item security parameters to include one or more of:
 a secret key;   a time interval increment;   a generator function identifier; and   a combiner function identifier.   
     
     
         17 . The marketplace server of  claim 11 , wherein the processing module is further configured to verify the dynamic exchange item information by:
 retrieving the exchange item security parameters from the marketplace database;   generating second dynamic exchange item information based on the retrieved exchange item security parameters;   comparing the second dynamic exchange item information to the received dynamic exchange item information; and   when the comparison is favorable, indicating the dynamic exchange item information is verified.   
     
     
         18 . The marketplace server of  claim 17 , wherein the processing module is further configured to generate the second dynamic exchange item information by:
 performing one or more deterministic functions in accordance with a generator function identifier and a time interval increment utilizing a secret key to produce a dynamic exchange item number portion; and   combining the dynamic exchange item number portion with a static exchange item number portion of the exchange item information in accordance with a combiner function to produce the second dynamic exchange item information.   
     
     
         19 . The marketplace server of  claim 11 , wherein the processing module is further configured to:
 store the exchange item security parameters in the marketplace database.   
     
     
         20 . The marketplace server of  claim 11 , wherein the processing module is further configured to:
 store the second exchange item security parameters and the updated exchange item information in the marketplace database of the exchange item marketplace network.
