Abstract

Provided is a computer-implemented process for determining offers for a geofenced geographic area. After a mobile user device traverses a geofence, merchants associated with a geofence having a geofence identifier are identified. Candidate offers associated with the merchants are identified and ranked according to ranking criteria. The ranked candidate offers are transmitted to a mobile user device. The ranked candidate offers are cached on the mobile user device and presented to the user via an offers notification. The user may view and redeem an offer by selecting the offers notification.

1 . One or more non-transitory, tangible, computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the processors to effectuate operations to reduce power consumption when providing geolocated content, the operations comprising:
 obtaining, with a mobile user device, based on wireless signals received by the mobile user device, a first geolocation of the mobile user device;   determining, with the mobile user device, based on wireless signals received by the mobile user device, that the mobile user device has changed location by greater than a threshold distance from the first geolocation;   in response to the determination, causing, with the mobile user device, a second geolocation of the mobile user device to be sent to a remote server system via a network;   receiving, from the remote server system, an identifier of a geofence of a merchant facility corresponding to the second geolocation; and   after receiving the identifier of the geofence of a merchant facility, causing an offer redeemable by visiting the merchant facility to be presented with the mobile user device.   
     
     
         2 . The one or more media of  claim 1 , the operations comprising:
 determining, with the mobile user device, that the mobile user device has traversed the geofence of the merchant facility, before causing the offer redeemable by visiting the merchant facility to be presented with the mobile user device.   
     
     
         3 . The one or more media of  claim 2 , wherein:
 determining that the mobile user device has changed location by greater than a threshold distance from the first geolocation is performed by a native service of the mobile user device; and   the native service is different from a native application that displays the offer on the mobile user device.   
     
     
         4 . The one or more media of  claim 1 , wherein:
 the geofence is specified by a polygon enclosing an area;   causing the offer to be displayed comprises causing a notification to be presented by the mobile user device; and   after selection of the notification, the mobile user device is caused to display an image of a machine-readable code used to redeem the offer.   
     
     
         5 . The one or more media of  claim 1 , the operations comprising:
 steps for determining candidate offers.   
     
     
         6 . The one or more media of  claim 1 , the operations comprising:
 steps for providing an offer interface at the mobile user device.   
     
     
         7 . The one or more media of  claim 1 , the operations comprising:
 steps for acquiring data related to offers.   
     
     
         8 . The one or more media of  claim 1 , the operations comprising:
 storing a set of offers including the offer caused to be presented, in an offers data store of an offers engine;   mirroring a subset of the set of offers with a cache server of the offers engine, the cache server being configured to maintain inconsistent data relative to the offers data store; and   serving the offer that is caused to be presented, from the cache server to the mobile user device.   
     
     
         9 . The one or more media of  claim 1 , the operations comprising:
 determining that the mobile user device is within the geofence for more than a threshold amount of time, wherein the offer redeemable by visiting the merchant facility is caused to be presented based on the mobile user device remaining within the geofence for more than the threshold amount of time.   
     
     
         10 . The one or more media of  claim 9 , wherein:
 determining that the mobile user device has changed location by greater than a threshold distance from the first geolocation is performed by a native service of the mobile user device; and   the native service is different from a native application that displays the offer on the mobile user device.   
     
     
         11 . The one or more media of  claim 1 , wherein:
 determining that the mobile user device has changed location by greater than a threshold distance from the first geolocation is performed by a native service of the mobile user device; and   the native service is different from a native application that displays the offer on the mobile user device.   
     
     
         12 . One or more non-transitory, tangible, computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the processors to effectuate operations to reduce power consumption when providing geolocated content, the operations comprising:
 obtaining, with a mobile user device, based on wireless signals received by the mobile user device, a first geolocation of the mobile user device;   determining, with the mobile user device, based on wireless signals received by the mobile user device, that the mobile user device has changed location by greater than a threshold distance from the first geolocation;   in response to the determination, causing, with the mobile user device, a second geolocation of the mobile user device to be sent to a remote server system via a network;   receiving, from the remote server system, an identifier of a geofence of a merchant facility, wherein the geofence was selected by the remote server system based on proximity of the geofence to the second geolocation; and   after receiving the identifier of the geofence of the merchant facility, causing an offer redeemable by visiting the merchant facility to be presented with the mobile user device.   
     
     
         13 . The one or more media of  claim 12 , the operations comprising:
 determining, with the mobile user device, that the mobile user device has traversed the geofence of the merchant facility before causing the offer redeemable by visiting the merchant facility to be presented with the mobile user device.   
     
     
         14 . The one or more media of  claim 12 , wherein:
 the geofence is specified by a polygon enclosing an area;   causing the offer to be displayed comprises causing a notification to be presented by the mobile user device; and   after selection of the notification, the mobile user device is caused to display an image of a machine-readable code used to redeem the offer.   
     
     
         15 . The one or more media of  claim 12 , wherein:
 determining that the mobile user device has changed location by greater than a threshold distance from the first geolocation is performed by a native service of the mobile user device; and   the native service is different from a native application that displays the offer on the mobile user device.   
     
     
         16 . The one or more media of  claim 12 , the operations comprising:
 determining that the mobile user device is within the geofence for more than a threshold amount of time, wherein the offer redeemable by visiting the merchant facility is caused to be presented based on the mobile user device remaining within the geofence for more than the threshold amount of time.
