Abstract

An integrated ceiling device includes a housing retaining an electronic assembly, a heat sink having a central opening, a light source coupled onto the heat sink, the housing is coupled with and disposed at least partly above the heat sink, and a central vertical axis of the housing aligns or is in proximity with the central opening of the heat sink.

We claim: 
     
         1 . An integrated ceiling device comprising:
 a mechanical arrangement including:   a housing retaining an electronic assembly;   a heat sink having a central opening; and   a light source coupled onto the heat sink,   wherein the housing is coupled with and disposed at least partly above the heat sink,   wherein a central vertical axis of the housing aligns or is in proximity with the central opening of the heat sink.   
     
     
         2 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of heat dissipating fins positioned on the heat sink. 
     
     
         3 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 1 , wherein the heat sink is formed with a round shape. 
     
     
         4 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 1 , wherein at least one mechanical support arm extending and interconnecting the housing with the heat sink. 
     
     
         5 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 4 , wherein the at least one mechanical support arm is/are configured to detach the housing and the heat sink from one another. 
     
     
         6 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 1 , wherein at least one protrusion extending outwardly from an exterior surface of the housing is configured to remove electronic device heat. 
     
     
         7 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of: a refractor and a reflector is/are disposed over the light source. 
     
     
         8 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 1 , wherein at least one of: a refractor and a reflector is/are coupled to the heat sink. 
     
     
         9 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 1 , wherein exterior surfaces of the housing, and exterior surfaces of the heat sink are substantially exposed to free flow of air. 
     
     
         10 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 1 , wherein the heat sink comprises a bottom face, wherein the light source is coupled to the bottom face. 
     
     
         11 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 1 , further comprising an optical assembly supported by the heat sink. 
     
     
         12 . An integrated ceiling device comprising:
 at least one electronic assembly comprising a power supply and a light source; and a mechanical arrangement including:   a heat sink having a central opening and a plurality of heat dissipating fins positioned on the heat sink, a housing configured to couple to the at least one electronic assembly, and at least one support arm,   wherein a central vertical axis of the housing is configured to align or be in proximity with a central axis of the opening in the heat sink,   wherein the at least one support arm couples the housing to the heat sink,   wherein the housing is disposed at least partly above the central opening of the heat sink, and   a power supply retained inside the housing powers the light source.   
     
     
         13 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 12 , wherein the light source output is controllable. 
     
     
         14 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 12 , wherein a device input power is low voltage. 
     
     
         15 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 12 , wherein an electronic device is coupled to an exterior of the housing. 
     
     
         16 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 12 , wherein the heat sink is formed with a round shape. 
     
     
         17 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 12 , wherein the at least one support arm is/are configured to detach the housing and the heat sink from each other. 
     
     
         18 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 12 , wherein at least one protrusion extending outwardly from an exterior surface of the housing is configured to remove electronic device heat. 
     
     
         19 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 12 , wherein at least one of: a refractor and a reflector is/are disposed over the light source. 
     
     
         20 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 12 , wherein at least one of: a refractor and a reflector is/are coupled to the heat sink. 
     
     
         21 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 12 , wherein exterior surfaces of the housing, and surfaces of the heat sink are substantially exposed to free flow of air. 
     
     
         22 . The integrated ceiling device of  claim 12 , further comprising a plurality of heat dissipating fins positioned on the heat sink. 
     
     
         23 . A method of using an integrated ceiling device, wherein the integrated ceiling device comprises: an electronic assembly; and a mechanical arrangement including; a housing retaining the electronic assembly; a heat sink having a central opening and at least one support arm, wherein the housing is coupled to the heat sink by the at least one mechanical support arm, wherein at least one light source is coupled to the heat sink, wherein at least one light optics altering device is/are coupled to the heat sink, wherein exterior surfaces of the housing and the heat sink are substantially exposed to free flow of air; the method comprising: operating the at least one light source in response to receiving power and thereby inducing cool air to flow along the substantially exposed exterior surfaces of the housing and the heat sink.
