Abstract

In an update method of map data executed by a map information system provided in a vehicle, wherein the map data includes multiple pieces of block data separated so as to correspond to blocks on a map and stored in a storage device of the map information system, the map information system decides pieces of block data to be updated based on at least one of a passage history and a future expected route when the vehicle is in a sleep state, communicates with a map server having a latest version of the map data and downloads update data corresponding to the pieces of block data to be updated from the map server, and updates the pieces of block data stored in the storage device based on the downloaded update data.

1 . An update method of map data executed by a map information system provided in a vehicle, wherein
 the map data includes multiple pieces of block data separated so as to correspond to blocks on a map and stored in a storage device of the map information system, and   wherein the map information system   decides pieces of block data to be updated based on at least one of a passage history and a future expected route when the vehicle is in a sleep state,   communicates with a map server having a latest version of the map data and downloads update data corresponding to the pieces of block data to be updated from the map server, and   updates the pieces of block data stored in the storage device based on the downloaded update data.   
     
     
         2 . The update method of map data according to  claim 1 , wherein the map data is a high accuracy map including lane information. 
     
     
         3 . The update method of map data according to  claim 1 , wherein the map information system
 communicates with a plan management server storing plan information of a user and acquires the plan information of the user,   decides the future expected route based on the plan information, and   decides pieces of block data corresponding to blocks including the future expected route as the pieces of block data to be updated.   
     
     
         4 . The update method of map data according to  claim 1 , wherein the map information system decides, based on the passage history, pieces of block data corresponding to blocks in which a passage frequency is greater than or equal to a first determination value as the pieces of block data to be updated.

The update method of map data according to  claim 4 , wherein the map information system decides pieces of block data corresponding to blocks which are within a prescribed range from the position of the own vehicle and in which the passage frequency is greater than or equal to the first determination value as the pieces of block data to be updated. 
     
     
         6 . The update method of map data according to  claim 1 , wherein the map information system decides pieces of block data corresponding to blocks which are located within a prescribed distance from the position of the own vehicle as the pieces of block data to be updated. 
     
     
         7 . The update method of map data according to  claim 1 , wherein the map information system deletes, based on the passage history, pieces of block data corresponding to blocks in which a passage frequency is less than or equal to a second determination value. 
     
     
         8 . The update method of map data according to  claim 1 , wherein each piece of block data includes version information, and
 the map information system determines necessity of update based on the version information of the pieces of block data stored in the storage device and the version information of the pieces of block data stored in the map server and performs download from the map server when it is determined that the update is necessary.   
     
     
         9 . A map information system comprising:
 a storage device that stores map data including multiple pieces of block data separated so as to correspond to blocks on a map; and   a map acquisition unit that decides pieces of block data to be updated based on at least one of a passage history and a future expected route when the vehicle is in a sleep state, communicates with a map server having a latest version of the map data, downloads latest pieces of block data corresponding to the pieces of block data to be updated from the map server, and updates the pieces of block data stored in the storage device based on the downloaded pieces of block data.
