Abstract

A method is provided to enhance efficiency of sensor event data transmission over network. Specifically, a method is described to buffer a set of sensor data, to group one or more of the set of sensor data having a same type for batch processing. The batch processing includes compressing and securing operations on the grouped sensor data and restoring the original message sequence of the grouped sensor data.

         19 . A method of transmitting sensor data comprising:
 sensing the sensor data at one or more sensors, wherein the sensor data comprises a batch of messages and wherein each message of the batch of messages exhibits a message pattern;   associating a first metadata with the batch of messages, the first metadata describing how the batch of messages is formatted;   applying a security operation to the batch of messages to create a set of secured messages;   updating the first metadata with security operation information; and   associating the updated first metadata with the set of secured messages.   
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein applying the security operation to the batch of messages includes:
 replacing a data field and an associated value of messages in the batch of messages with a token to create a set of tokenized messages; and   applying cryptographic operations to the set of tokenized messages.   
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 19 , further comprising:
 transmitting the updated first metadata and the set of secured messages to a cloud gateway;   applying a reverse security operation to the set of secured messages at the cloud gateway to retrieve the sensor data; and   transmitting the sensor data to an internet of things application.   
     
     
         22 . The method of  claim 21  further comprising:
 analyzing the sensor data via the internet of things application. 
 
     
     
         23 . The method of  claim 21  further comprising:
 storing the sensor data on a persistent storage device. 
 
     
     
         24 . The method of  claim 23  further comprising:
 analyzing the stored sensor data via the internet of things application. 
 
     
     
         25 . The method of  claim 21  wherein the internet of things application is data analytics processing. 
     
     
         26 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the event data is located on a smartphone. 
     
     
         27 . The method of  claim 19 , wherein the associating a first metadata with the batch of messages further comprises compressing the batch of messages. 
     
     
         28 . The method of  claim 27 , wherein the compressing of the batch of messages further comprises eliminating a portion of the sensor data. 
     
     
         29 . A method of transmitting and receiving data comprising:
 identifying a batch of messages, each message of the batch of messages exhibiting a message pattern;   associating a first metadata with the batch of messages, the first metadata describing how the batch of messages is formatted;   compressing the batch of messages to create a set of compressed messages;   updating the first metadata with compression information to create a second metadata;   applying a security operation to the set of compressed messages to create a set of secured messages;   updating the second metadata with security operation information to create a third metadata; and   associating the third metadata with the set of secured messages.   
     
     
         30 . The method of  claim 29  further comprising transmitting the set of secured messages from an edge device to a cloud gateway. 
     
     
         31 . The method of  claim 30  wherein the set of secured messages are transmitted once a size of the set of secured messages is larger than a size of a dynamic adjustable buffer. 
     
     
         32 . The method of  claim 31  wherein the size of the dynamic adjustable buffer is determined by the cloud gateway. 
     
     
         33 . The method of  claim 30  further comprising retrieving the batch of messages from the set of secured messages at the cloud gateway. 
     
     
         34 . The method of  claim 33  further comprising storing the batch of messages in persistent storage. 
     
     
         35 . The method of  claim 30  wherein the compressing the batch of messages comprises eliminating a portion of the batch of messages. 
     
     
         36 . The method of  claim 35  wherein after transmitting the set of secured messages the portion of the batch of messages that were eliminated are restored at the cloud gateway. 
     
     
         37 . The method of  claim 29  wherein the batch of messages are located on a smartphone. 
     
     
         38 . The method of  claim 29 , wherein applying the security operation to the batch of messages includes:
 replacing a data field and an associated value of messages in the batch of messages with a token to create a set of tokenized messages; and   applying cryptographic operations to the set of tokenized messages.
