Abstract

A drug delivery device for administering a drug is presented having a body, at least one electrical unit and a port for electrically contacting the electrical unit, an adapter for attaching an injection needle to the drug delivery device, a safety mechanism arranged to prevent contacting the electrical unit whilst an injection needle is in fluid communication with the drug delivery device and arranged to prevent establishing a fluid communication whilst the electrical unit is contactable.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 15 . (canceled)

16 . A drug delivery device for administering a drug, the drug delivery device comprising:
a body; at least one electrical unit and a port for electrically contacting the at least one electrical unit; and a safety mechanism comprising a cover movable between a closed position and an open position, wherein the cover is arranged to cover the port when in the closed position and expose the port when in the open position, wherein a blocking component is slidably arranged in the body and biased towards a blocking position for preventing the cover from being moved out of the closed positon, wherein the blocking component is arranged to be moved out of the blocking position by a cap when the cap is attached to the body.

17 . The drug delivery device of claim 16 , wherein the blocking component comprises a blocking recess for engaging a blocking protrusion on the cover when the cover is in the closed position and the blocking component is in the blocking position.

18 . The drug delivery device of claim 17 , wherein the body comprises a slot arranged to receive a tab of the cap when the cap is attached to the body,
wherein the slot and the blocking component are arranged such that, as the cap is attached to the body, the tab slides through the slot and acts on the blocking component to move the blocking component laterally into the body to release the blocking protrusion.

19 . The drug delivery device of claim 18 , wherein the slot extends longitudinally along a surface of the body.

20 . The drug delivery device of claim 18 , wherein the blocking component comprises a chamfered section,
wherein the blocking component is arranged such that the tab acts on the chamfered section as the cap is attached to the body, to move the blocking component laterally into the body.

21 . The drug delivery device of claim 18 , wherein the blocking component and the cover are arranged such that the cover is moved into the open position by the tab as the cap is attached to the body.

22 . The drug delivery device of claim 16 , wherein the blocking component is biased towards the blocking position by a spring.

23 . The drug delivery device of claim 16 , wherein the cover comprises a handle arranged to allow a user to move the cover into the open position when the blocking component is moved out of the blocking position.

24 . A drug delivery device for administering a drug, the drug delivery device comprising:
a body; at least one electrical unit and a port for electrically contacting the at least one electrical unit, wherein the port is arranged within a recess provided at a surface of the body; and a safety mechanism comprising a blocking component arranged to protrude into the recess to prevent a connector from connecting to the port, wherein the blocking component is arranged to be moved into the body in a direction perpendicular to the surface to allow the connector to be connected to the port.

25 . The drug delivery device of claim 24 , wherein the blocking component is configured to be moved into the body by a cap as the cap is attached to the drug delivery device.

26 . The drug delivery device of claim 25 , wherein the safety mechanism comprises a pivot arm arranged to be acted on by the cap as the cap is attached to the drug delivery device, to move the blocking component into the body.

27 . The drug delivery device of claim 26 , wherein the pivot arm is arranged to be acted on by a tab of the cap as the cap is attached to the drug delivery device, to move the blocking component into the body.

28 . The drug delivery device of claim 24 , wherein the blocking component is biased to protrude into the recess.

29 . A drug delivery device for administering a drug, the drug delivery device comprising:
a body; at least one electrical unit and a port for electrically contacting the at least one electrical unit; and a safety mechanism comprising a cover movable between a closed position and an open position, wherein the cover is arranged to cover the port when in the closed position and expose the port when in the open position, wherein the safety mechanism is arranged to move the cover from the closed position to the open position in response to rotation of a cap relative to the body as the cap is rotatably attached to the body.

30 . The drug delivery device of claim 28 , wherein the cover is arranged to rotate from the closed position to the open position in response to the rotation of a cap.

31 . The drug delivery device of claim 28 , wherein the cover is biased into the closed position when the cap is not attached to the body.

32 . The drug delivery device for administering a drug, the drug delivery device comprising:
a bod; at least one electrical unit and a port for electrically contacting the at least one electrical unit; and a safety mechanism comprising a cover and a blocking component, wherein the cover is arranged to be rotatable between a closed position and an open position, wherein the cover is arranged to cover the port when in the closed position and expose the port when in the open position, wherein the blocking component is biased towards a blocking position for preventing the cover from being moved out of the closed position, wherein the blocking component comprises a retaining tongue configured to engage with a retaining feature on the cover when the blocking component is in the blocking position, to prevent the cover from rotating out of the closed position, wherein the retaining tongue is arranged to be moved out of engagement with the retaining feature by a protrusion on a cap as the cap is attached to the drug delivery device, to allow the cover to rotate from the closed position to the open position.

33 . The drug delivery device of claim 32 , wherein the cover is a substantially cylindrical cover rotatably fitted within the body.

34 . The drug delivery device of claim 32 , wherein the blocking component is shaped as a spring and biases the retaining tongue to engage with the retaining feature.

35 . The drug delivery device of claim 32 , further comprising:
an adapter for attaching an injection needle to the drug delivery device; and a cap arranged to be coupled to the drug delivery device such that the injection needle cannot be attached to the adapter or the injection needle is inaccessible when attached to the adapter.
