Abstract

A nasal delivery device for and method of delivering particulate substance to the nasal airway of a subject, the delivery device comprising: a body assembly including a mouthpiece unit which includes a mouthpiece through which the subject in use exhales, and a substance-supply unit which is fluidly connected to the mouthpiece unit and actuatable to provide particulate substance for delivery to the nasal airway of the subject; wherein the body assembly is configured to receive a replaceable nosepiece unit which includes a nosepiece and contains a container containing particulate substance.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 47 . (canceled)

48 . A nasal delivery device for delivering particulate substance to a nasal airway of a subject, the delivery device comprising:
a replaceable nosepiece unit including a nosepiece configured to fit to a nostril of the subject and a body member defining a chamber in fluid communication with the nosepiece, the chamber configured to hold a particulate substance container therein; a mouthpiece unit including a mouthpiece configured to fit to an oral cavity of the subject; a housing including a cavity formed therein, wherein the replaceable nosepiece unit is configured to connect to the housing by inserting, in a first direction, a portion of the body member of the replaceable nosepiece unit into the cavity to a fitted position and disconnect from the housing by withdrawing, in a second direction, opposite the first direction, the replaceable nosepiece unit out of the cavity; and an actuation member configured to be moved between a first, unactuated position and a second, actuated position, wherein movement of the actuation member from the first position to the second position is prevented unless the replaceable nosepiece unit is in the fitted position.

49 . The delivery device of claim 48 , wherein movement of the actuation member to the second actuated position is configured to open a particulate substance container held in the chamber.

50 . The delivery device of claim 48 , wherein the actuation member comprises a button.

51 . The delivery device of claim 48 , wherein the particulate substance container is a capsule.

52 . The delivery device of claim 48 , wherein the particulate substance container is a blister.

53 . A method for delivering particulate substance to a nasal airway of a subject, the method comprising:
connecting a replaceable nosepiece unit to a housing of a delivery device by inserting a portion of the replaceable nosepiece unit in a first direction into a cavity formed in the housing to a fitted position; fitting the replaceable nosepiece unit to a nostril of the subject, the replaceable nosepiece unit including a nosepiece, the nosepiece being in fluid communication with a chamber formed in the replaceable nosepiece unit configured to hold a particulate substance container; fitting a mouthpiece of the delivery device to an oral cavity of the subject, the mouthpiece being in fluid communication with the nosepiece when the replaceable nosepiece unit is in the fitted position; moving an actuation member from a first position to a second position to extend a portion of the actuation member into the chamber in the nosepiece unit to engage the substance container held therein, wherein movement of the actuation member into the second position is prevented unless the replaceable nosepiece unit is in the fitted position; causing the subject to exhale through the mouthpiece; delivering at least a portion of the particulate substance to the nasal airway of the subject after the actuation member is actuated into the second position while the subject exhales through the mouthpiece; and removing the replaceable nosepiece unit after delivery of the particulate substance.

54 . The method of claim 53 , wherein the actuation member is configured to open the particulate substance chamber.

55 . The method of claim 53 , wherein the actuation member comprises a button.

56 . The method of claim 53 , wherein the particulate substance container is a capsule.

57 . The method of claim 53 , wherein the particulate substance container is a blister.

58 . A nasal delivery device for delivering particulate substance to a nasal airway of a subject, the delivery device comprising:
a replaceable nosepiece unit including a body member defining a chamber configured to hold a particulate substance container therein; a housing including a cavity configured to receive at least a portion of the replaceable nosepiece unit; and an actuation member configured to be moved between a first, unactuated position and a second, actuated position to open the particulate substance container.
