Abstract

Pharmaceutical compositions for preventing or reducing kidney injury are disclosed, where the pharmaceutical compositions include (1) siRNAs non-covalently conjugated to functionalized single walled carbon nanotubes (f-SWCNTs) and (2) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, where the siRNAs inhibit expression of one or more genes selected from the group consisting of MEP1B and p53 genes.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A pharmaceutical composition for preventing or reducing kidney injury, the pharmaceutical composition comprising (1) siRNAs non-covalently conjugated to functionalized single walled carbon nanotubes (f-SWCNTs) and (2) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein the siRNAs inhibit expression of MEP1B and p53 genes. 
     
     
         2 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein said kidney injury includes injuries caused by one or more of nephrotoxins and ischemia. 
     
     
         3 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein said kidney injury is acute kidney injury. 
     
     
         4 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective amount of (1) for preventing or reducing kidney injury. 
     
     
         5 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective amount of (1) for reducing kidney injury. 
     
     
         6 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 1 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective amount of (1) for preventing kidney injury. 
     
     
         7 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 2 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective amount of (1) for preventing or reducing kidney injury. 
     
     
         8 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 2 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective amount of (1) for reducing kidney injury. 
     
     
         9 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 2 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective amount of (1) for preventing kidney injury. 
     
     
         10 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 3 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective amount of (1) for preventing or reducing acute kidney injury. 
     
     
         11 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 3 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective amount of (1) for reducing acute kidney injury. 
     
     
         12 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 3 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective amount of (1) for preventing acute kidney injury. 
     
     
         13 . A pharmaceutical composition for reducing acute kidney injury, the pharmaceutical composition comprising (1) siRNAs non-covalently conjugated to functionalized single walled carbon nanotubes (f-SWCNTs) and (2) a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, wherein the siRNAs inhibit expression of one or more genes selected from the group consisting of MEP1B and p53 genes. 
     
     
         14 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 13 , wherein said kidney injury includes injuries caused by one or more of nephrotoxins and ischemia. 
     
     
         15 . The pharmaceutical composition of  claim 13 , wherein the pharmaceutical composition comprises an effective amount of (1) for reducing acute kidney injury.
