Pocket and adjustable trim piece for a suspended ceiling system

Abstract

An adjustable trim system for a suspended ceiling. The system has a perimeter pocket surround the suspended ceiling. The pocket has at least one hook on its exterior surface that are adapted to engage a related hook on a trim piece. The trim piece also, optionally, includes a stabilizer bar adapted to accept and hold a gasket or spacer between the bar and the bottom edge of the pocket hooks to provide additional rigidity. To assist in holding the gasket the top of the stabilizer bar and the bottom of the lowest bottom hook may be textured.

We claim: 
     
         1 . An adjustable trim system for a suspended ceiling, the trim system comprising:
 a pocket comprising   a top portion attached to a first leg and a second leg on opposite ends of the top portion, the first leg and the second leg extending downward from the top portion with each leg having an exterior surface and a terminal edge,   a pocket hook comprising   a pocket hook projection portion projecting outward from the terminal edge of the exterior surface of the second leg away from the first leg and   a pocket hook attachment portion projecting outward from the surface of the pocket hook projection portion towards the top portion and terminating at a pocket hook terminal end,   wherein the first leg is longer than the second leg; and   a trim piece comprising   a stem section having a top edge and a bottom edge, the stem having an engagement surface and opposite side surface between the top edge and bottom end,   a trim section attached to the bottom end, and   at least one trim hook comprising   a trim hook projection portion projecting outward from the engagement surface and   a trim hook attachment portion projecting outward from the trim hook projection portion in the direction of the bottom edge terminating at a trim hook terminal end;   wherein the at least one trim hook is adapted to engage with the pocket hook to removably secure the trim piece to the pocket.   
     
     
         2 . The trim system of  claim 1  wherein both the trim hook terminal edge and pocket hook terminal edge have a thickness from 0.13 inches to 0.27 inches. 
     
     
         3 . The trim system of  claim 1 , wherein the trim piece contains up to 6 trim hooks spaced a substantially equal distance apart. 
     
     
         4 . The trim system of  claim 3 , wherein the equal distance is one inch. 
     
     
         5 . The trim system of  claim 1 , wherein the distance the trim hook attachment portion projects out from the trim hook projection portion is 0.2 inches plus or minus 0.07 inches. 
     
     
         6 . The trim system of  claim 1 , wherein the opposite side surface includes a notch closer to the bottom edge than the location on the engagement surface closest to the bottom edge from which the trim hook projection portion projects outwards. 
     
     
         7 . The trim system of  claim 6  wherein the notch is 0.365 inches, plus or minus 0.07 inches, closer to the bottom edge than the location on the engagement surface closest to the bottom edge from which the trim hook projection portion projects outwards. 
     
     
         8 . The trim system of  claim 1 , wherein the location on the engagement surface closest to the bottom edge from which the trim hook projection portion closest to the bottom edge projects outwards is at least 3.77 inches from the bottom of the trim section. 
     
     
         9 . The trim system of  claim 1 , wherein the opposite side of the trim piece includes at least two ribs, wherein a first rib is closer to the top edge than a second rib and the first rib projects outwards from the opposite side and downwards towards the bottom edge and the second rib projects outward from the opposite side and upwards towards the top edge. 
     
     
         10 . The trim system of  claim 9 , wherein the opposite side of the trim piece includes at least four ribs forming two channels, wherein a first channel is closer to the top edge than the second channel, the first channel formed by a first rib closer to the top edge than a second rib and the first rib projects outwards from the opposite side and downwards towards the bottom edge and the second rib projects outward from the opposite side and upwards towards the top edge, the second channel formed by a third rib closer to the top edge than a fourth rib and the third rib projects outwards from the opposite side and downwards towards the bottom edge and the fourth rib projects outward from the opposite side and upwards towards the top edge. 
     
     
         11 . An adjustable trim piece for attaching decorative trim to a pocket having a pocket hook in a suspended ceiling system, the trim piece comprising:
 a stem section having a top edge and a bottom end, the stem having an engagement surface and opposite side surface between the top edge and bottom end,   a trim section attached to the bottom end, and   at least one trim hook comprising   a trim hook projection portion projecting outward from the engagement surface and   a trim hook attachment portion projecting outward from the trim hook projection portion in the direction of the bottom edge terminating at a trim hook terminal end;   wherein the at least one trim hook is adapted to engage with the pocket hook to removably secure the trim piece to the pocket.   
     
     
         12 . The adjustable trim piece of  claim 11  wherein the trim hook terminal edge has a thickness from 0.13 inches to 0.27 inches. 
     
     
         13 . The adjustable trim piece of  claim 11 , wherein the trim piece contains up to 6 trim hooks spaced a substantially equal distance apart. 
     
     
         14 . The adjustable trim piece of  claim 13 , wherein the equal distance is one inch. 
     
     
         15 . The adjustable trim piece of  claim 11 , wherein the distance the trim hook attachment portion projects out from the trim hook projection portion is 0.2 inches plus or minus 0.07 inches. 
     
     
         16 . The adjustable trim piece of  claim 11 , wherein the opposite side surface includes a notch closer to the bottom edge than the location on the engagement surface closest to the bottom edge from which the trim hook projection portion projects outwards. 
     
     
         17 . The adjustable trim piece of  claim 16  wherein the notch is 0.365 inches, plus or minus 0.07 inches, closer to the bottom edge than the location on the engagement surface closest to the bottom edge from which the trim hook projection portion projects outwards. 
     
     
         18 . The adjustable trim piece of  claim 11 , wherein the location on the engagement surface closest to the bottom edge from which the trim hook projection portion closest to the bottom edge projects outwards is at least 3.77 inches from the bottom of the trim section. 
     
     
         19 . The adjustable trim piece of  claim 11 , wherein the opposite side of the trim piece includes at least two ribs, wherein a first rib is closer to the top edge than a second rib and the first rib projects outwards from the opposite side and downwards towards the bottom edge and the second rib projects outward from the opposite side and upwards towards the top edge. 
     
     
         20 . The adjustable trim piece of  claim 19 , wherein the opposite side of the trim piece includes at least four ribs forming two channels, wherein a first channel is closer to the top edge than the second channel, the first channel formed by a first rib closer to the top edge than a second rib and the first rib projects outwards from the opposite side and downwards towards the bottom edge and the second rib projects outward from the opposite side and upwards towards the top edge, the second channel formed by a third rib closer to the top edge than a fourth rib and the third rib projects outwards from the opposite side and downwards towards the bottom edge and the fourth rib projects outward from the opposite side and upwards towards the top edge.
