Demolition shear and demolition shear piercing tip insert and nose configuration

Abstract

A piercing tip for a demolition shear, the piercing tip including a blade-side sidewall and a guide-side sidewall, a front wall, and a bottom wall. An intersection of a front outer wear surface of the front wall and a bottom wear surface of the bottom wall defines a front piercing edge. An intersection of a planar outer wear surface of the blade-side sidewall and the bottom wear surface of the bottom wall defines a shearing edge. A blade set may include the piercing tip and at least one shear blade. The piercing tip and at least one shear blade may be mounted to the blade-side of an upper jaw of the demolition shear.

1 . A piercing tip, comprising:
 a blade-side sidewall having a planar outer wear surface;   a guide-side sidewall having a planar outer wear surface;   a front wall having a front outer wear surface, the front outer wear surface intersecting with and extending laterally between the planar outer wear surface of the blade-side sidewall and the planar outer wear surface of the guide-side sidewall;   a bottom wall having a bottom wear surface, the bottom wear surface intersecting with and extending laterally between the planar outer wear surface of the blade-side sidewall and the planar outer wear surface of the guide-side sidewall, and the bottom wear surface intersecting with the front outer wear surface;   wherein the intersection of the front outer wear surface and the bottom wear surface defines a front piercing edge; and   wherein the intersection of the blade-side outer planar sidewall surface and the bottom surface defines a shearing edge.   
     
     
         2 . The piercing tip of  claim 1 , further comprising:
 a plurality of connector holes extending through the blade-side sidewall; and   a plurality of connector holes extend through the guide-side sidewall.   
     
     
         3 . The piercing tip of  claim 1 , including a first piercing tip portion and a second piercing tip portion, wherein the first piercing tip portion includes the blade-side sidewall, and wherein the second piercing tip portion includes the guide-side sidewall, and wherein at least one of the first piercing tip portion and the second piercing tip portion includes at least a portion of the front wall and at least a portion of the bottom wall. 
     
     
         4 . The piercing tip of  claim 1 , including a first piercing tip portion and a second piercing tip portion, wherein the first piercing tip portion includes the blade-side sidewall, half of the front wall and half of the bottom wall, and wherein the second piercing tip portion includes the guide-side sidewall, half of the front wall and half of the bottom wall. 
     
     
         5 . The piercing tip of  claim 1 , wherein the blade-side sidewall includes an ear extending rearwardly from a back end surface of the blade-side sidewall, and wherein the guide-side sidewall includes an ear extending rearwardly from a back end surface of the guide-side sidewall. 
     
     
         6 . The piercing tip of  claim 5 , wherein the ear of the blade-side sidewall and the ear of the guide-side sidewall each includes an upper ear surface. 
     
     
         7 . The piercing tip of  claim 5 , wherein the ear of the blade-side sidewall and the ear of the guide-side sidewall each includes a lower ear surface. 
     
     
         8 . The piercing tip of  claim 7 , wherein at least a portion of the lower ear surface of the blade-side sidewall is transverse to the back end surface of the of the blade-side sidewall and wherein at least a portion of the lower ear surface of the guide-side sidewall is transverse to the back end surface of the of the guide-side sidewall. 
     
     
         9 . A blade set for a demolition shear, comprising:
 (a) a piercing tip, including:
 a blade-side sidewall having a planar outer wear surface; 
 a guide-side sidewall having a planar outer wear surface; 
 a front wall having a front outer wear surface, the front outer wear surface intersecting with and extending laterally between the planar outer wear surface of the blade-side sidewall and the planar outer wear surface of the guide-side sidewall; 
 a bottom wall having a bottom wear surface, the bottom wear surface intersecting with and extending laterally between the planar outer wear surface of the blade-side sidewall and the planar outer wear surface of the guide-side sidewall, and the bottom wear surface intersecting with the front outer wear surface; 
 wherein the intersection of the front outer wear surface and the bottom wear surface defines a front piercing edge; 
 wherein the intersection of the blade-side outer planar sidewall surface and the bottom surface defines a shearing edge; and 
   (b) at least one shear blade.   
     
     
         10 . The blade set of  claim 9 , wherein the piercing tip includes a plurality of connector holes extending through the blade-side sidewall and a plurality of connector holes extend through the guide-side sidewall. 
     
     
         11 . The blade set of  claim 9 , wherein the piercing tip includes a first piercing tip portion and a second piercing tip portion, wherein the first piercing tip portion includes the blade-side sidewall, and wherein the second piercing tip portion includes the guide-side sidewall, and wherein at least one of the first piercing tip portion and the second piercing tip portion includes at least a portion of the front wall and at least a portion of the bottom wall. 
     
     
         12 . The blade set of  claim 9 , wherein the piercing tip includes a first piercing tip portion and a second piercing tip portion, wherein the first piercing tip portion includes the blade-side sidewall, half of the front wall and half of the bottom wall, and wherein the second piercing tip portion includes the guide-side sidewall, half of the front wall and half of the bottom wall. 
     
     
         13 . The blade set of  claim 9 , wherein the blade-side sidewall of the piercing tip includes an ear extending rearwardly from a back end surface of the blade-side sidewall and the guide-side sidewall includes an ear extending rearwardly from a back end surface of the guide-side sidewall. 
     
     
         14 . The blade set of  claim 13 , wherein the ear of the blade-side sidewall and the ear of the guide-side sidewall each includes an upper ear surface. 
     
     
         15 . The blade set of  claim 13 , wherein the ear of the blade-side sidewall and the ear of the guide-side sidewall each includes a lower ear surface. 
     
     
         16 . The blade set of  claim 15 , wherein at least a portion of the lower ear surface of the blade-side sidewall is transverse to the back end surface of the of the blade-side sidewall and wherein at least a portion of the lower ear surface of the guide-side sidewall is transverse to the back end surface of the of the guide-side sidewall. 
     
     
         17 . The blade set of  claim 9 , wherein the at least one shear blade includes an upper shear blade. 
     
     
         18 . The blade set of  claim 9 , wherein the at least one shear blade includes an upper shear blade and a lower shear blade. 
     
     
         19 . The blade set of  claim 9 , further comprising a guide blade. 
     
     
         20 . The blade set of  claim 9 , further comprising a cross-blade. 
     
     
         21 . The blade set of  claim 9 , wherein the at least one shear blade includes an upper shear blade and a lower shear blade, and further comprising:
 a guide blade; and   a cross-blade.   
     
     
         22 . A demolition shear, comprising:
 an upper jaw having a blade-side and a guide-side, a forward most end of the upper jaw having a nose, the upper jaw having a range of motion between an open position and a closed position;   a lower jaw having a blade-side and a guide-side, the guide-side spaced laterally from the blade-side to receive at least the nose of the upper jaw when the upper jaw is in the closed position;   a piercing tip mounted to the nose of the upper jaw, the piercing tip including:
 a blade-side sidewall having a planar outer wear surface; 
 a guide-side sidewall having a planar outer wear surface; 
 a front wall having a front outer wear surface, the front outer wear surface intersecting with and extending laterally between the planar outer wear surface of the blade-side sidewall and the planar outer wear surface of the guide-side sidewall; 
 a bottom wall having a bottom wear surface, the bottom wear surface intersecting with and extending laterally between the planar outer wear surface of the blade-side sidewall and the planar outer wear surface of the guide-side sidewall, and the bottom wear surface intersecting with the front outer wear surface; 
 wherein the intersection of the front outer wear surface and the bottom wear surface defines a front piercing edge; 
 wherein the intersection of the blade-side outer planar sidewall surface and the bottom surface defines a shearing edge; 
 at least one upper shear blade mounted to the blade-side of the upper jaw; and 
 at least one shear blade mounted to the blade-side of the lower jaw. 
   
     
     
         23 . The demolition shear of  claim 22 , wherein the piercing tip includes a first piercing tip portion and a second piercing tip portion, wherein the first piercing tip portion includes the blade-side sidewall, and wherein the second piercing tip portion includes the guide-side sidewall, and wherein at least one of the first piercing tip portion and the second piercing tip portion includes at least a portion of the front wall and at least a portion of the bottom wall. 
     
     
         24 . The demolition shear of  claim 22 , wherein the piercing tip includes a first piercing tip portion and a second piercing tip portion, wherein the first piercing tip portion includes the blade-side sidewall, half of the front wall and half of the bottom wall, and wherein the second piercing tip portion includes the guide-side sidewall, half of the front wall and half of the bottom wall. 
     
     
         25 . The demolition shear of  claim 22 , wherein the blade-side sidewall of the piercing tip includes an ear extending rearwardly from a back end surface of the blade-side sidewall and the guide-side sidewall includes an ear extending rearwardly from a back end surface of the guide-side sidewall. 
     
     
         26 . The demolition shear of  claim 22 , wherein the ear of the blade-side sidewall and the ear of the guide-side sidewall each includes an upper ear surface. 
     
     
         27 . The demolition shear of  claim 22 , wherein the ear of the blade-side sidewall and the ear of the guide-side sidewall each includes a lower ear surface. 
     
     
         28 . The demolition shear of  claim 27 , wherein at least a portion of the lower ear surface of the blade-side sidewall is transverse to the back end surface of the of the blade-side sidewall and wherein at least a portion of the lower ear surface of the guide-side sidewall is transverse to the back end surface of the of the guide-side sidewall. 
     
     
         29 . The demolition shear of  claim 22 , further comprising a guide-blade mounted to the guide-side of the lower jaw. 
     
     
         30 . The demolition shear of  claim 22 , further comprising at least one cross-blade mounted to the lower jaw between the laterally spaced blade-side and guide-side of the lower jaw.
