Abstract

The described technology is generally directed towards customizable traffic zones that work with wireless communication network, and can be configured based on various data, including traffic data. A vehicle and/or wireless communication network user device within the traffic zone facilitate monitoring of the vehicle/user device. Pricing can be based on entering and exiting the zone, dwell time in the zone, user profile data and other factors such as time of day, day of week and so forth. A customizable traffic zone can be configured and reconfigured as needed, such as to expand or contract a zone, exclude an area, and so forth. User devices can be targeted, including geo-fencing for warning users about to enter a traffic zone that charges for usage, or to provide other relevant messages.

Claims

What is claimed is:

         1 . A method, comprising:
identifying, by a base station device comprising a processor, vehicles approaching a defined geographic area; and configuring, by the base station device, respective congestion pricing traffic zones in the defined geographic area for the vehicles, wherein at least two congestion pricing traffic zones of the respective congestion pricing traffic zones are different sizes and are at least partially overlapping.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein configuring the respective congestion pricing traffic zones for the vehicles is based on respective user profiles of drivers of the vehicles.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein configuring the respective congestion pricing traffic zones for the vehicles is based on respective vehicle types of the vehicles.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein configuring the respective congestion pricing traffic zones for the vehicles is based on traffic data in the defined geographic area.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein configuring the respective congestion pricing traffic zones for the vehicles is based on respective passengers in the vehicles.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein configuring the respective congestion pricing traffic zones for the vehicles is based on air quality information in the defined geographic area.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein configuring the respective congestion pricing traffic zones for the vehicles is based on an event occurring in the defined geographic area.

         8 . A system, comprising:
a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
detecting vehicles within a defined distance of a defined geographic area; and
creating respective chargeable traffic zones in the defined geographic area for the vehicles, wherein at least two chargeable traffic zones of the respective chargeable traffic zones are different shapes and are at least partially overlapping.

9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein creating the respective chargeable traffic zones for the vehicles is based on respective customer profiles of drivers of the vehicles.

10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein creating the respective chargeable traffic zones for the vehicles is based on a current time of day.

11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein creating the respective chargeable traffic zones for the vehicles is based on current traffic congestion in the defined geographic area.

12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein creating the respective chargeable traffic zones for the vehicles further comprises creating respective warning zones for the vehicles.

13 . The system of claim 8 , wherein creating the respective chargeable traffic zones for the vehicles is based on respective quantities of passengers in the vehicles.

14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein creating the respective chargeable traffic zones for the vehicles is based on respective residency statuses in the defined geographic area of respective drivers of the vehicles.

15 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor of a system, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
determining vehicles have entered a warning zone of a defined geographic area; and generating respective priced traffic zones in the defined geographic area for the vehicles, wherein at least two priced traffic zones of the respective congestion priced traffic zones cover different portions of the defined geographic area and are at least partially overlapping.

16 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein generating the respective priced traffic zones for the vehicles is based on a quantity of parked cars in the defined geographic area.

17 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein generating the respective priced traffic zones for the vehicles is based on historical data for the defined geographic area.

18 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein generating the respective priced traffic zones for the vehicles is based on pedestrian traffic in the defined geographic area.

19 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein generating the respective priced traffic zones for the vehicles is based on predicted revenue for the defined geographic area.

20 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein generating the respective priced traffic zones for the vehicles is based on bicycle traffic in the defined geographic area.
