Data preparation context navigation
Abstract
Navigating to a data preparation context is disclosed. A set of data preparation operations is performed on one or more data sets to generate a set of answer sets in a first application. A final answer set in the set of answer sets is provided to a second application. In response to a user specification of a source-related query, a reference associated with the source-related query is obtained. A corresponding subset of the set of answer sets associated with one or more corresponding or relevant data preparation operations is determined according to the obtained reference. The corresponding subset of the set of answer sets associated with the one or more data preparation operations are presented in the first application according to the obtained reference.

21 . A system, comprising:
a data processing system comprising memory and one or more processors to: instruct a graphical user interface to present a user interface element to execute an action with a first value of a first data set; determine, in response to execution of the action, at least one of a dimension or column of the first data corresponding to the first value; obtain, from a reference stack that stores a plurality of steps performed successively to generate the first data set, the plurality of steps that indicates one or more operations performed to generate a second value corresponding to the dimension or the column; and instruct the graphical user interface to present one or more indications based on a sequence of the plurality of steps that correspond to the one or more operations, and that identifies the operations performed to generate the second value.
22 . The system of claim 21 , the data processing system further to:
obtain, via the graphical user interface, input including a step that links with an operation, and that identifies a point in the sequence of the one or more steps; and insert, at the point in the sequence, the step into the sequence of the plurality of steps.
23 . The system of claim 22 , the data processing system further to:
generate a second data set by performing operations corresponding to the sequence of the plurality of steps including the step inserted at the point; and instruct the graphical user interface to present at least a portion the second data set.
24 . The system of claim 21 , the data processing system further to:
instruct a visualization application to generate the user interface element based on the first data set; and instruct the visualization application to generate the user interface element.
25 . The system of claim 24 , the data processing system further to:
instruct, in response to the execution of the action, the visualization application to present the indications by a data preparation application.
26 . The system of claim 21 , the user interface element including one or more parameters specifying at least one of the value, the dimension, or the column.
27 . The system of claim 21 , the user interface element including one or more parameters corresponding to a range of at least one of the value, the dimension, or the column.
28 . A method, comprising:
instructing a graphical user interface to present a user interface element to execute an action with a first value of a first data set; determining, in response to executing the action, at least one of a dimension or column of the first data corresponding to the first value; obtaining, from a reference stack storing a plurality of steps performed successively to generate the first data set, the plurality of steps indicating one or more operations performed to generate a second value corresponding to the dimension or the column; and instructing the graphical user interface to present one or more indications based on a sequence of the plurality of steps corresponding to the one or more operations, and identifying the operations performed to generate the second value.
29 . The method of claim 28 , further comprising:
obtaining, via the graphical user interface, input including a step linking with an operation, and identifying a point in the sequence of the one or more steps; and inserting, at the point in the sequence, the step into the sequence of the plurality of steps.
30 . The method of claim 28 , further comprising:
generating a second data set by performing operations corresponding to the sequence of the plurality of steps including the step inserted at the point; and instructing the graphical user interface to present at least a portion the second data set.
31 . The method of claim 28 , further comprising:
instructing a visualization application to generate the user interface element based on the first data set; and instructing the visualization application to generate the user interface element.
32 . The method of claim 31 , further comprising:
instructing, in response to the executing the action, the visualization application to present the indications by a data preparation application.
33 . The method of claim 31 , the user interface element including one or more parameters specifying at least one of the value, the dimension, or the column.
34 . The method of claim 31 , the user interface element including one or more parameters corresponding to a range of at least one of the value, the dimension, or the column.
35 . A computer readable medium including one or more instructions stored thereon and executable by a processor to:
instruct, by the processor, a graphical user interface to present a user interface element to execute an action with a first value of a first data set; determine, by the processor and in response to executing the action, at least one of a dimension or column of the first data corresponding to the first value; obtain, by the processor and from a reference stack that stores a plurality of steps performed successively to generate the first data set, the plurality of steps that indicates one or more operations performed to generate a second value corresponding to the dimension or the column; and instruct, by the processor, the graphical user interface to present one or more indications based on a sequence of the plurality of steps that correspond to the one or more operations, and that identifies the operations performed to generate the second value.
36 . The computer readable medium of claim 35 , the computer readable medium further includes one or more instructions executable by the processor to:
obtain, via the graphical user interface, input including a step that links with an operation, and that identifies a point in the sequence of the one or more steps; and insert, at the point in the sequence, the step into the sequence of the plurality of steps.
37 . The computer readable medium of claim 35 , the computer readable medium further includes one or more instructions executable by the processor to:
generate a second data set by performing operations corresponding to the sequence of the plurality of steps including the step inserted at the point; and instruct the graphical user interface to present at least a portion the second data set.
38 . The computer readable medium of claim 35 , the computer readable medium further includes one or more instructions executable by the processor to:
instruct a visualization application to generate the user interface element based on the first data set; and instruct the visualization application to generate the user interface element.
39 . The computer readable medium of claim 38 , the computer readable medium further includes one or more instructions executable by the processor to:
instruct, in response to the executing the action, the visualization application to present the indications by a data preparation application.
40 . The computer readable medium of claim 35 , the user interface element including one or more parameters specifying at least one of the value, the dimension, or the column.Cited by (0)
