Abstract

Example methods and apparatus for enabling voice communications via a messaging application are described. One example method includes providing a conversation user interface in the messaging application, where the conversation user interface includes communication records between a contact and a user. Voice information of the user is received after the user triggers a record button, where the record button appears in the conversation user interface. A voice note related to the voice information is presented in the form of the communication records on the conversation user interface. The voice note is played in response to selecting the voice note by the user. The voice note is paused from playing in response to a first instruction from the user to pause playing the voice note, and is resumed playing in response to a second instruction from the user to resume playing the voice note.

         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein:
 before blocking the first contact, the method further comprises:
 displaying a block confirmation in response to the first option for blocking the first contact being selected, wherein the block confirmation comprises a block button; and
   blocking the first contact comprises:
 in response to the block button being selected, blocking the first contact from contacting the user.

         4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the method further comprises:
 in response to a fourth option being selected, displaying a third menu, wherein the third menu comprises a fourth option for initiating a voice call and a fifth option for initiating a video call.

         5 . The method of  claim 2 , wherein:
 in response to the third option being selected, ignoring the incoming call comprises:
 displaying at least two buttons in the incoming call user interface;
 detecting a selection of a first button of the at least two buttons to ignore the incoming call; and
   in response to the third option being selected, displaying, in an messaging conversation user interface associated with the first contact, a first message indicating that an incoming call attempt has been unsuccessful comprises:
 in response to the selection of the first button, displaying, in the messaging conversation user interface, the first message.

         6 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first message is a default and predefined message.

         7 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the messaging conversation user interface comprises a message composition portion, the first message being displayed in the message composition portion.

         8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein displaying the first message comprises:
 automatically populating the message composition portion with the first message.

         9 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the method further comprises:
 sending the first message to the first contact.

         10 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first message is configured to notify the first contact that the incoming call attempt has been acknowledged.

         11 . An electronic device, comprising:
 one or more processors; and one or more memories coupled to the one or more processors and storing program instructions for execution by the one or more processors to:
 display a first menu, wherein the first menu comprises a first option for blocking a first contact;
 in response to the first option being selected,
 block the first contact from contacting a user of an electronic device with voice and video calling using an instant messaging application; and
 display a block indicator in association with the first contact in an instant messaging list user interface;

 display a second menu in response to a first entry in association with the first contact being selected, wherein the second menu comprises a second option for unblocking the first contact;
 in response to the second option being selected, unblock the first contact and removing the block indicator in association with the first contact;
 display an incoming call user interface in response to detecting an incoming call from the first contact, wherein the incoming call user interface comprises a third option for ignoring the incoming call; and
 in response to the third option being selected, ignore the incoming call.

         12 . The electronic device of claim 11 , wherein the one or more memories store the program instructions for execution by the one or more processors to:
 in response to the third option being selected, display, in an messaging conversation user interface associated with the first contact, a first message indicating that an incoming call attempt has been unsuccessful.
