Abstract
An online photo management service that stores a collection of photos belonging to a user can send re-engagement messages to the user that can include photos automatically selected from the collection. The selection can be based on a scoring algorithm that rates the photos according to a set of attributes and computes a score based on the attributes and a set of weights. Based on user responses to re-engagement messages, the weights can be tuned to more reliably select photos likely to result in user re-engagement with the stored collection of photos.

1 . A computer-implemented method comprising:
identifying a group of images based on each image within the group of images corresponding to a time attribute; generating an access link associated with the group of images; generating a message comprising the access link, at least one image from the group of images, and message text that references the time attribute; and providing the message for display on a client device, wherein a user interaction with the message causes the client device to launch a client application based on the access link, the client application providing access to the group of images.
2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising identifying the group of images based on a geographic attribute in addition to the time attribute.
3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein the message further comprises a reference to the geographic attribute.
4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the client application is a photo application installed on the client device.
5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:
analyzing image pixels to identify subjects within images based on characteristic pixel patterns; and wherein identifying the group of images is further based on an identified subject.
6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the message is one of an email message, a SMS message, or a notification.
7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 6 , further comprising:
identifying a second group of images based on detecting a user interacted with the access link included in the message; and providing a second message comprising at least one image from the second group of images.
8 . A system comprising:
at least one processor; and a non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions thereon that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:
identify a group of images based on each image within the group of images corresponding to a time attribute and a geolocation attribute;
generate an access link associated with the group of images;
generate a message comprising the access link, at least one image from the group of images, and text that references the time attribute and geolocation attribute; and
provide the message for display on a client device, wherein a user interaction with the message causes the client device to launch a client application based on the access link, the client application providing access to the group of images.
9 . The system of claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to provide the message to the client device based on determining that an inactivity threshold has been triggered.
10 . The system of claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:
analyze image pixels to identify objects within images based on characteristic pixel patterns; and wherein identifying the group of images is further based on an identified object.
11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the message further comprises a reference to the identified object.
12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the client application is a photo application installed on the client device.
13 . The system of claim 8 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:
determine a positive user response to the message; identify attributes of the at least one image; based on the positive user response to the message and the attributes of the at least one image, identify a second group of images; and provide, to the client device, a second message comprising a second access link associated with the second group of images.
14 . The system of claim 13 , wherein the message is one of an email message, a SMS message, or a notification.
15 . The system of claim 13 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:
determine that a user refrained from interacting with the message; based on determining the user refrained from interacting with the message, identify a second group of images; and provide, to the client device, a second message comprising a second access link associated with the second group of images.
16 . A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing instructions thereon that, when executed by at least one processor, cause a computing device to:
identify a group of images based on each image within the group of images corresponding to a time attribute and a subject; generate an access link associated with the group of images; generate a message comprising the access link, at least one image from the group of images, and text that references the subject; and provide the message for display on a client device, wherein a user interaction with the message causes the client device to access to the group of images.
17 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein providing the message for display on the client device comprises launching a client application based on the user interaction with the access link.
18 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 16 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing device to provide the message to the client device via a text message, an email message, or a push notification.
19 . The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 16 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing device to:
determine a negative user response to the message corresponding to the group of images; based on the negative user response to the message, determine a second group of images; and provide a second message comprising at least one image from the second group of images.
