Abstract
A variety of improvements to portable electronic devices are disclosed, particularly electronic devices designed for use in and around water. The improvements include a more secure interface jack, improved waterproofing techniques, improved battery stability, and improved device functionality. One or more of the disclosed improvements may be incorporated into a variety of portable electronic devices.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 19 . (canceled)
20 . A method of counting laps in a pool by a swimmer, comprising:
providing a portable electronic device having a processor, a memory, and at least one gyroscope; collecting data from the gyroscope; detecting a turn using data from the gyroscope; and counting a lap when two turns have been detected.
21 . The method of claim 20 , wherein detecting a turn uses peak detection.
22 . The method of claim 20 , wherein data is collected from the gyroscope as a rolling sum.
23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the rolling sum from the gyroscope is filtered using a low-pass filter.
24 . The method of claim 20 , wherein detecting a turn uses data only from the gyroscope.
25 . The method of claim 20 , further comprising recording a lap time during the counting step.
26 . The method of claim 25 , further comprising determining an average lap time from the recorded lap times.
27 . A method of counting a swimmer's laps in a pool, comprising:
wearing a portable electronic device having a processor, a memory, and at least one gyroscope; collecting data from the gyroscope; entering the collected data as individual data points into a buffer; generating a rolling average when the data buffer is full by adding the newest data point, removing the oldest data point, summing the top half of the data buffer to create a first sum, summing the bottom half of the buffer to create a second sum, taking the difference between the first sum and the second sum to generate a current difference, adding the current difference to a total sum, and dividing the total sum by the number of data points collected; detecting a turn by comparing the current difference to the rolling average; and counting a lap when two turns have been detected then entering a waiting state.
28 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the waiting state is exited after a preset amount of time.
29 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the preset amount of time varies by user.
30 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the detecting step occurs after a preset amount of time.
31 . The method of claim 27 , further comprising:
recording a lap time during the counting step; and generating an average lap time using recorded lap times.Cited by (0)
