Protective effects of oil palm composition on alzheimer's disease

Abstract

Present invention discloses an oil palm composition for use in prevention or treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The composition is useful in impeding formation of neurotoxic peptide. Present invention can be used in preparation of a medicament in a therapeutic effective amount for prevention or treatment of Alzheimer's disease and diseases related thereto.

1 . A method of preparing an oil palm phenolics composition for the preparation of a medicament for impeding aggregation of β-amyloid in the brain, the method comprising,
 obtaining a therapeutic amount of oil palm phenolics obtained from oil palm vegetation liquor of  Elaeis guineensis , said oil palm vegetation liquor comprising p-hydroxybenzoic acid, protocatechuic acid, three structural isomers of caffeoylshikimic acid, and shikimic acid; and 
 adding at least one pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

The method of preparing an oil palm phenolics composition for the preparation of a medicament for impeding aggregation of β-amyloid in the brain according to  claim 1 , wherein said oil palm phenolics further comprises phytochemicals selected from the group consisting of flavonoids, oligosaccharides, lipids, and metal ions. 
     
     
         3 . The method of preparing an oil palm phenolics composition for the preparation of a medicament for impeding aggregation of β-amyloid in the brain according to  claim 1 , wherein said therapeutic amount of oil palm phenolics is in a concentration of 0.9 mcg/ml to 90 mg/ml. 
     
     
         4 . The method of preparing an oil palm phenolics composition for the preparation of a medicament for impeding aggregation of β-amyloid in the brain according to  claim 3 , wherein said therapeutic is able to impede β-amyloid trimer aggregation. 
     
     
         5 . The method of preparing an oil palm phenolics composition for the preparation of a medicament for impeding aggregation of β-amyloid in the brain according to  claim 1 , wherein said therapeutic amount of oil palm phenolics is in a concentration of 90 mcg/ml to 90 mg/ml.

The method of preparing an oil palm phenolics composition for the preparation of a medicament for impeding aggregation of β-amyloid in the brain according to  claim 5 , wherein said therapeutic is able to impede β β-amyloid trimer aggregation and β-amyloid dimer aggregation. 
     
     
         7 . The method of preparing an oil palm phenolics composition for the preparation of a medicament for impeding aggregation of β-amyloid in the brain according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein said medicament is a medicament for oral administration.
