Abstract

Wear caps protect the wearable surfaces of an adapter for an earth working equipment. These wear caps are subjected to erosion and wear by contact with abrasive material, such as experienced in an excavating operation. The wear caps can be attached to upper and lower legs of the adapter and protect them from wear. Each wear cap is secured to a retention feature on an independent mounting structure. The independent mounting structures are aligned and staggered such that installation of a wear cap onto the rearward independent mounting structure is conducted first. The independent mounting structures on an upper leg may be situated one above the other.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 - 31 . (canceled)

32 . An adapter for mounting on a base of an earth working equipment, the adapter comprising a forwardly projecting nose for mounting a wear member, an inner leg to extend over the base, an inner surface facing away from the base, and at least one hole in the inner surface extending generally toward the base and configured to receive a lifting hook for lifting the adapter.

33 . The adapter of claim 32 wherein the inner surface has at least two independent retention structures for mounting wear caps such that at least one of the wear caps covers the at least one hole.

34 . The adapter of claim 32 wherein the inner leg includes at least one retention structure for mounting a wear cap on the inner leg such that the wear cap covers the at least one hole.

35 . A wear member for earth working equipment, the wear member comprising:
a wearable surface; interior surfaces defining a cavity for receiving a base on the earth working equipment and supporting the wear member on the earth working equipment; and at least one lifting hole located in a surface outside of the cavity for receiving a lifting device for lifting the wear member.

36 . The wear member of claim 35 wherein the wear member is an adapter that includes a nose for supporting a point.

37 . The wear member of claim 35 wherein the interior surfaces includes top and bottom surfaces that are configured such that the cavity receives a digging edge of a bucket.

38 . The wear member of claim 35 wherein the interior surfaces includes top, bottom and side surfaces that are configured such that the cavity receives a nose of the base.

39 . The wear member of claim 35 which includes at least one retention structure for mounting a wear cap on the wear member.

40 . The wear member of claim 39 wherein the at least one retention structure positions the wear cap over the at least one lifting hole.

41 . A wear assembly for earth working equipment, the wear assembly comprising:
an adapter for mounting on a base of an earth working equipment, the adapter including a forwardly projecting nose for mounting a wear member, an inner leg to extend over the base, an inner surface facing away from the base, and at least one hole in the inner surface extending generally toward the base and configured to receive a lifting hook for lifting the adapter; and a wear cap secured to the inner leg of the adapter to overlie a portion of the inner surface.

42 . The wear assembly of claim 41 wherein the wear cap overlies the at least one lifting hole when secured to the inner leg.

43 . The wear assembly of claim 41 including a plurality of the lifting holes in the inner surface.

44 . The wear assembly of claim 43 including a plurality of the wear caps wherein each said wear cap overlies one of the lifting holes.
