Integration of communication platform functionality with a third-party application
Abstract
Embedding functionality of a communication platform into a third-party application is described. The communication platform can receive, from the third-party application, a request to connect to the communication platform in association with an object of the third-party application, wherein the third-party application and the communication platform are associated with a user account. In response to receiving the request, causing a user interface associated with the communication platform to be presented via the third-party application. In an example, the user interface can include selectable options that, when selected by a user, enable the user to connect to a particular virtual space of the communication platform with particular other users.

causing display of an affordance to connect to a virtual space of the communication platform from the third-party application, wherein the affordance is associated with an object of the third-party application; in response to detecting actuation of the affordance, displaying a user interface comprising data fields and information associated with the object of the third-party application; receiving, from the third-party application, data in the user interface, wherein the data comprises a virtual space identifier associated with a virtual space of the communication platform, a first user identifier associated with a first user of the communication platform, and a selection of one or more additional user identifiers obtained from the information to associate with the object of the third-party application; and associating the first user identifier and the one or more additional user identifiers with the virtual space of the communication platform.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
in response to receiving the data, generating the virtual space configured to transmit communications between the first user and one or more additional users associated with the one or more additional user identifiers.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
in response to detecting actuation of the affordance, identifying, based at least in part on information associated with the object of the third-party application, one or more virtual spaces associated with the communication platform; causing a recommendation to associate at least one of the one or more virtual spaces to be displayed via the user interface; and receiving a selection of the virtual space from the at least one of the one or more virtual spaces, wherein the virtual space identifier is associated with the data based at least in part on the selection of the virtual space of the one or more virtual spaces.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the virtual space comprises at least one of:
a private communication channel between the first user and one or more users; a public communication channel of which the first user is a member; or a direct messaging instance between the first user and the one or more users.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the data is received at a first time and the method further comprises:
receiving, at a second time after the first time, a second request to associate a second user identifier associated with a second user to the virtual space; and in response to the second request, associating the second user identifier with the virtual space.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the second request is received from at least one of a first client associated with the first user or a second client associated with the second user.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the data further comprises a third user identifier associated with a third user, the method further comprising:
determining, based at least in part on the third user identifier, that the third user is not associated with the communication platform; sending an invitation to join the communication platform to a client associated with the third user; and in response to receiving an indication of acceptance of the invitation, associating the third user with the virtual space.
8 . A system comprising:
one or more processors; and one or more non-transitory computer readable media storing instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
causing display of an affordance to connect to a virtual space of a communication platform from a third-party application, wherein the affordance is associated with an object of the third-party application;
in response to detecting actuation of the affordance, displaying a user interface comprising data fields and information associated with the object of the third-party application;
receiving, from the third-party application, data in the user interface, wherein the data comprises a virtual space identifier associated with a virtual space of the communication platform, a first user identifier associated with a first user of the communication platform, and a selection of one or more additional user identifiers obtained from the information to associate with the object of the third-party application; and
associating the first user identifier and the one or more additional user identifiers with the virtual space of the communication platform.
9 . The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:
in response to receiving the data, generating the virtual space configured to transmit communications between the first user and one or more additional users associated with the one or more additional user identifiers.
10 . The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:
in response to detecting actuation of the affordance, identifying, based at least in part on information associated with the object of the third-party application, one or more virtual spaces associated with the communication platform; causing a recommendation to associate at least one of the one or more virtual spaces to be displayed via the user interface; and receiving a selection of the virtual space from the at least one of the one or more virtual spaces, wherein the virtual space identifier is associated with the data based at least in part on the selection of the virtual space of the one or more virtual spaces.
11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the virtual space comprises at least one of:
a private communication channel between the first user and one or more users; a public communication channel of which the first user is a member; or a direct messaging instance between the first user and the one or more users.
12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the data is received at a first time and the operations further comprise:
receiving, at a second time after the first time, a second request to associate a second user identifier associated with a second user to the virtual space; and in response to the second request, associating the second user identifier with the virtual space.
13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the second request is received from at least one of a first client associated with the first user or a second client associated with the second user.
14 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the data further comprises a third user identifier associated with a third user and the operations further comprise:
determining, based at least in part on the third user identifier, that the third user is not associated with the communication platform; sending an invitation to join the communication platform to a client associated with the third user; and in response to receiving an indication of acceptance of the invitation, associating the third user with the virtual space.
15 . One or more non-transitory computer readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a computing device, cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:
