Medical, surgical and patient lighting apparatus, system, method and controls with pathogen killing electromagnetic radiation
Abstract
A surgical site infection management lighting system and method that utilizes Far Ultraviolet C radiation that is safely used to eliminate or reduce surgical site infections. An integrated visible lighting system that includes far ultraviolet radiation doses that are safe for human cell exposure and patient and medical practitioner because of the designed and engineered and computer programmed for pathogen destruction at low doses. The lighting and electromagnetic radiation system provides illumination and for high visibility which provides medical staff optimal vision while performing a surgical or medical procedure. The system further uses electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz and other frequencies that are pre-engineering and computer programmed for each electromagnetic radiation event during a surgical or medical procedure. The system will efficiently and safely keep all doses substantially low and safe for human exposure while effectively killing and destroying pathogens.

An electromagnetic radiation system for providing bactericidal, germicidal, antimicrobial and/or pathogen killing effects to a target site of a patient using electromagnetic radiation and visible light sources during a time period associated with surgical or medical procedures, the electromagnetic radiation system comprising:
a plurality of first electromagnetic radiation sources configured to radiate a first electromagnetic radiation at a first electromagnetic radiation frequency selected from the group consisting of 1.489-1.350 petahertz (PHz) and 999-967 terahertz (THz); a second electromagnetic radiation source configured to radiate a second electromagnetic radiation at a second electromagnetic radiation frequency selected from the group consisting of 749-637 THz, 614-583 THz and 475-384 THz that have pathogen destruction capabilities at engineered and administered energy dose levels; a third light source configured to radiate visible light at a wavelength, bandwidth or frequency different than of the first electromagnetic radiation and the second electromagnetic radiation, the third light source being configured for illumination and high visibility providing a surgeon and medical staff optimal vision while performing a surgical or medical procedure; and a computer system in operable communication with the first electromagnetic radiation sources, the second electromagnetic radiation source and the third light source, the computer system being configured or configurable to control any one of or any combination of the first electromagnetic radiation source, the second electromagnetic radiation source and the third light source; wherein the first and second electromagnetic radiation frequencies are configured or configurable to deliver human safe electromagnetic radiation at an energy level and a dose time to the target site on a patient that is effective in destroying harmful pathogens in real time as the surgery or medical procedure is in progress and thereby reducing or eliminating surgical or postoperative infections; wherein the energy level of the first electromagnetic radiation and the second electromagnetic radiation is at a predetermined power level in watts or milliwatts or microwatts multiplied by the dose time in seconds, which yields an effective electromagnetic radiation dose, which is the energy level in joules, millijoules or microjoules, and the effective electromagnetic radiation dose being configured or configurable for delivery to each square centimeter of the target site on the patient, and electromagnetic radiation doses are scheduled for and delivered to the target site one or multiple times during the surgery or medical procedure; wherein the first electromagnetic radiation sources in the frequency range of 1.489-1.350 PHz are activated and configured at the power level of one milliwatts and the dose time of 10.0 seconds that results in a dose of 10 millijoules that is delivered to the target site one or multiple times during the surgical or medical procedure to achieve human safe pathogen destruction and to not damage or kill human cells; wherein the 1.489-1.350 petahertz electromagnetic radiation at the energy level of 10 millijoules is configured to destroy and kill fragile microorganisms that are 10 to 100 times smaller than human cells, and wherein the first and second electromagnetic radiation are configured to not penetrate, affect, damage or kill the human cells because of the size of the human cells are one to two magnitudes larger than the microorganisms.

The electromagnetic radiation system according to claim 1 , wherein one or more of the first electromagnetic radiation sources are configured to radiate in a frequency range of 999-967 THz, where a predetermined dose of the electromagnetic radiation range is a synthetic equivalent to portions of ultraviolet-B sunlight such that skin of the patient will synthesize vitamin D and D3 to promote biologic healing at the target site, where the frequency range is programmed and controlled by the computer system for safe and healing benefits, and wherein the computer system is configured or configurable to control the first electromagnetic radiation sources to administer the predetermined dose to the target site during final stages of the surgery or medical procedure, where the doses of electromagnetic radiation are harmless to patients and medical providers.
3 . The electromagnetic radiation system according to claim 1 , further comprising a method of using the electromagnetic radiation system for providing bactericidal, germicidal, antimicrobial and/or pathogen killing effects to a target site of a patient or animal care, the method comprising the steps of:
a) providing the electromagnetic radiation system and deployable using an attachable device selected from the group consisting of an articulable arm, a floor stand and a mobile base; b) illuminating a surgical area of the patient with the visible light; c) operating the electromagnetic radiation system by any one of or combination of: selecting by a medical practitioner a suite of pathogens to be killed and destroyed utilizing the first and second electromagnetic radiation sources; where the 749 to 637 THz is configured to kill at least 26 known pathogens including gram-positive Streptococcus thermophiles and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and where the synthesize vitamin D and D3 from controlled dosing of the 999-967 terahertz (THz) to promote biologic healing at the target site and the dose of the first electromagnetic radiation is administered to the target site one time near an end of the surgical or medical procedure; wherein the first electromagnetic radiation source and the second electromagnetic radiation source are configured or configurable to deliver human safe pathogen killing electromagnetic radiation at the predetermined power level in watts or milliwatts or microwatts over a set time, which yields the effective electromagnetic radiation dose, where the electromagnetic radiation frequency at a certain minimum energy level in joules, millijoules or microjoules results in the pathogen destruction, thereby achieving the reduction or elimination of site specific infections at the target site on the patient in real time during surgical or medical procedures and postoperative patient recovery, and wherein the electromagnetic radiation doses are scheduled for and delivered to the surgical or controlling the first and second electromagnetic radiation sources by way of the computer system in operable communication with the first electromagnetic radiation source and the second electromagnetic radiation source to deliver pathogen lethal doses to the target site in real medical procedure site one or multiple times during the surgery or medical procedure, where the doses of electromagnetic radiation are harmless to patients and medical providers.
4 . A method of using an electromagnetic radiation system for providing bactericidal, germicidal, antimicrobial and/or pathogen killing effects to a target site of a patient or animal care, the method comprising the steps of:
a) providing an electromagnetic radiation system deployable using an attachable device selected from the group consisting of a ceiling or wall mounted light and electromagnetic radiation system with an articulable arm, a floor stand, and a mobile base, where the electromagnetic radiation system using electromagnetic radiation and visible light sources during a time period associated with surgical or medical procedures, the electromagnetic radiation system comprising:
a third light source configured to radiate visible light at a wavelength, bandwidth or frequency for illumination and high visibility which provides the surgeon and medical staff optimal vision while performing a surgical or medical procedure; and
wherein the electromagnetic radiation frequency being 1.489-1.350 petahertz (PHz);
where an overhead surgical lighting fixture where the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system is mounted on the articulating arm allows for a distance to be adjusted variable distances above the target site and depending on a surgeon's lighting preferences the third light source is adjustable by the surgeon or medical staff several times during the surgical or medical procedure; and
a laser mounted in a center of the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system is configured to transmit on a middle of the target site and the laser is configured to simultaneously measure a distance to the target site, where an inverse square law of light is used to calculate and subsequently make automated adjustments to the electromagnetic radiation power based on the distance between the electromagnetic radiation source and the target site to deliver a human safe pathogen destroying dose of selected electromatic radiation;
wherein the electromagnetic radiation system is programmed or programmable to make power changes in microwatts or milliwatts based on the distance measured by the laser so that the same electromagnetic radiation dose in microjoules or millijoules is delivered during each scheduled pathogen destruction electromagnetic radiation when the distance varies, and where every the distance between the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system and the target site receives the same electromagnetic radiation dose during the delivered one or multiple times during the surgical or medical procedure duration for the pathogen destruction doses to the target site in real time;
wherein system engineering and computer programming is configured or configurable to make automatic adjustments in the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system that results in killing and destroying pathogens while the doses of electromagnetic radiation are harmless to patients and medical providers.
5 . The method according to claim 4 , wherein the electromagnetic radiation is engineered and programmed to deliver human safe doses of 1.489-1.350 PHz electromagnetic radiation on a scheduled basis during the time of the surgical or medical procedure to deliver multiple human safe pathogen killing radiation over the entire medical procedure uses doses that include pre-operation dosing, interoperative dosing and post-operation dosing, where a total surgical or medical procedure dose is at the 1.489-1.350 PHz electromagnetic radiation, and a total number of individual doses are accounted for and will provide human exposure when all doses of each individual dose, and the computer system is configured or configurable to deliver the electromagnetic radiation at a constant power where each effective dose at the target site will vary with the distance between the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system where a highest dose will occur at a shortest distance between the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system and the target site, a lowest dose will occur at a greatest distance between the lighting and electromagnetic radiation and the target site; and
wherein the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system is configured or configurable to not make automatic dose adjustments to account for an elevation adjustment of the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system and the target site, and where all multiple dose of the 1.489-1.350 PHz electromagnetic radiation during the surgical or medical procedure is designed and delivered to be human safe, where the constant power in microwatts or milliwatts will result in a dose energy at the target site in a dose of microjoules or millijoules for killing and destroying pathogens at the target site when the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system height is adjusted.

The method according to claim 4 , wherein the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz sources includes one or more electromagnetic radiation sources with one or more of the electromagnetic radiation sources including a focusable lens and one or more not including the focusable lens, wherein the focusable lens being equipped with a fused silica iris type auto adjustment feature to maintain the electromagnetic radiation irradiates on to the target site, and wherein the third light source is configured or configurable to provide illumination for visibility of the target site, and where the surgeon can elect to increase or decrease an area of the target site irradiation during the surgical or medical procedure and reprogram the computer system to for a new projection, wherein the computer system is configured or configurable to signal the lighting and electromagnetic radiation to auto adjust the fused silica iris lens or lenses beam angle is modified to project the electromatic radiation to a new diameter or shape of the target site projection and where the system will automatically calculate a new power amount to achieve the engineered dose of the electromagnetic radiation, and for ease of the lighting and electromagnetic radiation functionality the time exposure is lengthened or shortened to achieve a needed dose and where optical engineering that is used in the system is configured to provide a constant power that is delivered during all scheduled electromagnetic radiation doses as the distance between the electromagnetic radiation source to the target site is variable distances above the target site, or if a size of the target site size is modified the computer system is configured to control the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system to automatically make real time adjustment to ensure that each scheduled dose of the electromagnetic radiation is the same and is efficiency and seamlessly administrated by the computer system that will be set by the surgeon or medical staff to manage the human safe pathogen destruction in real time as the surgery or medical procedure is in progress.
7 . The method according to claim 4 further comprises a laser unit located centrally within an array of the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz sources and the third light source each being radially arranged about the laser unit, wherein the laser unit is configured to radiate laser light toward an illumination area illuminated by the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz sources, and at a frequency selected from the group consisting of 749-637 THz, 614-583 THz, and 475-384 THz sources where a single or multiple doses of the electromagnetic radiation from the sources are harmless to patients and medical providers.
8 . The method according to claim 4 further comprises a camera configured to capture an image or video of at least the target site.

The method according to claim 4 further comprises a laser unit, a distance sensor, a camera, and a motion sensor, wherein the computer system is configured or configurable to control any one or any combination of the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz sources, and wherein the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz sources and the third light source being radially arranged in lighting and electromagnetic radiation system where the laser unit is centrally located, and where the laser beam is configured to show the center of the target site and also make distance measurements from the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system to the target site.
10 . The method according to claim 4 , wherein the electromagnetic radiation frequency is selected from the group consisting of 1.489-1.350 PHz and 999-967 terahertz (THz).
11 . The method according to claim 4 further comprises a signage configured to illuminate when any one or any combination of the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz sources are actively delivering a radiation dose.
12 . The method according to claim 4 , wherein the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz sources, where an area larger than a largest width of the target site, and where programmable controls for electromagnetic radiation beam or beams for the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz system can be set or adjusted to focus a size, shape and dimensions of the electromagnetic radiation, which is larger than the target site, which is an active surgical or medical procedure site on the patient, and where all of the doses of energy electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz in millijoules or microjoules are combined will result in pathogen destruction, and where the doses of electromagnetic radiation are harmless to patients and medical providers during the surgical or medical procedure.
13 . The method according to claim 4 , wherein the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz frequency and the energy level thereof are configured to provide a radiation level in microjoules or millijoules that is sufficient to kill a set of selected pathogens and to be harmless to the patient where the total daily dose is human safe.
14 . The method according to claim 4 , wherein the computer system is configured or configurable to control the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz sources to administer several doses of electromagnetic radiation to the target site during the time period of the surgery or medical procedure, including a preoperative dose, one or multiple intraoperative doses and a postoperative dose, where each dose destroys or kills 99% of microorganisms and infection causing pathogens which eliminates or reduces surgical or medical infections in postoperative patient care.
15 . The method according to claim 4 further comprising the step of providing an aiming light from a laser unit positioned in a center of an array of the first electromagnetic radiation during a time as the surgery or medical procedure is in progress, where the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz being activated with an adjustable power level and a dose time to achieve human safe pathogen destruction; and wherein the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system is administering the electromagnetic frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz is projected on the target site of the patient at an energy level and a dose time configured to destroy and kill microorganisms, viruses, bacteria, spores and human harmful pathogens and will not damage or kill human cells by using a frequency range of 1.489-1.350 petahertz at a power level and dose time of exposure used, and wherein the power level is 1,000 microwatts and wherein the dose time exposure is 10 seconds that results in a dose of 10 millijoules, wherein 10 millijoules will kill and destroy 99% of a selected set of 48 harmful pathogens including methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) that cause infection each time the 10 millijoule electromagnetic radiation is activated and administrated at the target site for the active time and location of the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz, and the third light source that provide a level of illumination for optimal visibility of the target site.
16 . The method according to claim 4 further comprising the steps of:
determining the distance between the electromagnetic radiation system and the target site area by a distance sensor configured to sense reflected laser light emitting from a laser unit where a measured distance information is used to adjust the projected delivery of the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz or frequencies, and the energy levels, and size, dimension and shape of the electromagnetic radiation beam or beams through a lens or lenses that are electromagnetic radiation having a size greater than an entire surgical area; and
providing bactericidal, germicidal, antimicrobial and/or pathogen killing effects to the target site by controlling a parameter of any one or multiple doses for pathogen killing electromagnetic radiation.
17 . The method according to claim 4 further comprising the step of displaying to a display an image or video of an illumination area captured by a camera.
18 . A method of using an electromagnetic radiation system configured to radiate a third light source at a wavelength, bandwidth or frequency for illumination and high visibility which provides the surgeon and medical staff optimal vision while performing a surgical or medical procedure and an electromagnetic radiation frequency being a plurality of electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz sources;
where the lighting and electromagnetic system is ceiling or wall mounted with an articulating or on a floor stand that is mobile, where both the ceiling or wall mounted system and the floor stand system provides height and spatial adjustment capabilities, where a distance between lighting and electromagnetic system and the target site depends on a surgeon's lighting preferences and where the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system is adjustable by the surgeon or medical staff several times during the surgical or medical procedure, and a computer system is configured or configurable to set a power level to be the same for each of one or more electromagnetic radiation events and is further configured or configurable to set a dose time to be the same for every 1.489-1.350 PHz electromagnetic radiation event, which yields an effective electromagnetic radiation dose each time the lighting and electromagnetic radiation that is activated to emit radiation to the target site, and where the 1.489-1.350 PHz dose varies based on the distance between the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system and the target site with a higher dose at first distances and weaker doses at second distances greater than the first distances, and where the energy level in millijoules or microjoules of the electromagnetic radiation results in pathogen destruction, thereby achieving a reduction or elimination of site specific infections at the target site during the surgical or medical procedures, and where each dose of the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz and all the multiple doses combined are designed, pre-engineered and computer programmed for use during the surgical or medical procedure to be safe to human cells and the patient, and where a largest possible total dose during the surgical or medical procedure will be at a shortest distance between the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system and the target site, and where a largest radiation dose from multiple doses during the surgical or medical procedure is safe for human exposure, and where the lighting and electromagnetic system uses minimal single doses in microjoules or millijoules that are capable of killing and destroying one or more pathogens of a select set during each single dose period, and also the lighting and electromagnetic radiation system is programmed to use a minimal number of scheduled doses over the time of the surgical or medical procedure, where this pre-engineering and computer programming for all electromagnetic radiation events will efficiently and safely keep the each dose and all multiple doses substantially low and safe for human exposure while effectively killing and destroying pathogens, and where the doses of electromagnetic radiation are harmless to patients and medical providers.

The method according to claim 18 , wherein the electromagnetic radiation frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz sources are further configured to radiate at the electromagnetic radiation frequency at a second range of 999-967 terahertz (THz), and the electromagnetic radiation system further comprises a second electromagnetic radiation source configured to radiate a second electromagnetic radiation at a second electromagnetic radiation frequency selected from the group consisting of 749-637 THz, 614-583 THz and 475-384 THz that have pathogen destruction capabilities at engineered and administered energy dose levels.

The method according to claim 18 , wherein the electromagnetic radiation frequency is configured to radiate at a frequency of 1.489-1.350 PHz, and the electromagnetic radiation system further comprises an additional electromagnetic radiation source configured to radiate at a frequency range of 749-637 THz, and the electromagnetic radiation doses consisting of the frequency range of 1.489-1.350 PHz and the frequency range of 749-637 THz are configured to efficiently and safely keep the each dose and all multiple doses substantially low and safe for human exposure while effectively killing and destroying pathogens, and where the doses of the electromagnetic radiation are harmless to patients and medical providers.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
