Selection of a financial account associated with a proxy object
Abstract
Techniques for using a stored balance associated with a payment instrument are described. Transaction data associated with a transaction is received, wherein a payment instrument linked to a stored balance of a user is provided for payment of the transaction. In one example, a computer system determines that the stored balance is insufficient to satisfy the total amount of the purchase. The computer system further determines, based on a policy and without user input, to access funds from a bank account linked to the stored balance. The funds from the bank account are deposited to the stored balance, and the payment is processed for the total amount using the updated stored balance.

determining that the stored balance is insufficient to satisfy the total amount;
determining, based on a policy and without input from the user, to access funds from a bank account linked to the stored balance, wherein an amount of the funds is (i) less than the total amount and (ii) determined based on a difference between the total amount and the stored balance; and
depositing the funds from the bank account into the stored balance to update the stored balance; and
after depositing the funds from the bank account to update the stored balance, processing the payment using the updated stored balance.

determining, based on the policy and without input from the user, that the stored balance is the preferred financial account of the plurality of financial accounts from which to withdraw the funds,
wherein determining that the stored balance is insufficient to satisfy the total amount is at least partly responsive to determining that the stored balance is the preferred financial account.
29 . The method as claim 27 recites, further comprising:
determining available funds associated with each of the plurality of financial accounts,
wherein determining that the stored balance is insufficient to satisfy the total amount is at least partly responsive to determining the available funds associated with each of the plurality of financial accounts.
30 . The method as claim 26 recites, wherein the policy is customized by the user via an application executing on a user device of the user.
31 . The method as claim 26 recites, wherein determining, based on the policy and without input from the user, to access the funds from the bank account comprises determining to access the funds based at least in part on one or more of:

causing presentation, via one or more user interfaces associated with a display of a user device of the user, at least one of:
the stored balance;
a first notification that the stored balance is insufficient to satisfy the total amount;
the amount of funds;
a confirmation that the amount of funds has been withdrawn;
a second notification of completion of the transaction; or
the updated stored balance.
35 . A system comprising:
one or more processors; one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to perform acts comprising:
receiving transaction data associated with a transaction, wherein a payment instrument linked to a stored balance of a user is provided for payment of the transaction, and wherein the transaction has a total amount;
while the payment is pending:
determining that the stored balance is insufficient to satisfy the total amount;
determining, based on a policy and without input from the user, to access funds from a bank account linked to the stored balance, wherein an amount of the funds is determined based at least in part on a difference between the total amount and the stored balance; and

rewards available from the one or more financial accounts; or
designation of the bank account by the user as an alternative account to the stored balance.
41 . A method comprising:
receiving transaction data associated with a transaction, wherein a payment instrument linked to a stored balance of a user is provided for payment of the transaction, and wherein the transaction has a total amount; determining that the stored balance is insufficient to satisfy the total amount; determining, based on a policy and without input from the user, to access funds from at least one financial account linked to the stored balance, wherein an amount of the funds is (i) less than the total amount and (ii) determined based on a difference between the total amount and the stored balance; withdrawing the funds from the at least one financial account; and processing the payment using the stored balance and the amount of funds from the at least one financial account.
