Systems and methods for monitoring and enhancing utilization of batteries for electric vehicles
Abstract
Methods and systems for monitoring and optimizing utilization of batteries for electric vehicles are described. Data of battery usage of electric vehicles are monitored using battery monitoring sensors at the electric vehicles for a plurality of users who share use of electric vehicles. Battery usage metrics are determined for the batteries of the electric vehicles based on the data of battery usage and determining user impact metrics based on measured quantities relating to driving of the electric vehicles for the plurality of users, the user impact metrics being indicative of degrees of driving severity placed on the vehicles associated with use habits of particular users. The battery usage metrics and the user impact metrics for the plurality of users are analyzed at a computer processing system to determine a particular user to assign to a particular electric vehicle in a given time period to counteract battery degradation of the battery in a particular electric vehicle, and a particular user is paired with the particular electric vehicle.

monitoring battery usage metrics for batteries of electric vehicles shared by users; determining a battery charging profile that indicates how quickly to charge a battery of a particular electric vehicle among the electric vehicles based on the battery usage metrics, charging history, or battery usage forecast, or any combination thereof; and determining a surcharge owed to a third party for charging the battery more rapidly than indicated by the particular battery charging profile.
40 . The method of claim 39 , wherein determining the battery charging profile is based on the battery usage metrics and the battery usage forecast for the particular electric vehicle.
41 . The method of claim 39 , wherein determining the battery charging profile is based on the battery usage metrics and the charging history.
42 . The method of claim 39 , further comprising:
determining that a predetermined number of preceding charges of the particular electric vehicle were fast charges, wherein in response to determining that the predetermined number of preceding charges of the particular electric vehicle were fast charges, the battery charging profile is determined to be a slow charge profile.
43 . The method of claim 39 , wherein the third party is the owner of the battery of the particular electric vehicle.
44 . The method of claim 39 , further comprising:
determining compensation owed to the third party based on battery usage of the particular electric vehicle.
45 . The method of claim 39 , wherein determining battery usage metrics comprises determining an average battery discharge rate, a maximum battery discharge rate, or a median battery discharge rate, or any combination thereof.
46 . The method of claim 39 , further comprising:
assigning different users to the particular electric vehicle over time.
47 . A system comprising:
a memory comprising program instructions; and a computer processing system configured to execute the program instructions to:
monitor battery usage metrics for batteries of electric vehicles shared by users;
determine a battery charging profile that indicates how quickly to charge a battery of a particular electric vehicle among the electric vehicles based on the battery usage metrics, charging history, or battery usage forecast, or any combination thereof; and
determine a surcharge owed to a third party for charging the battery more rapidly than indicated by the particular battery charging profile.
48 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the computer processing system is configured to execute the program instructions to determine the battery charging profile based on the battery usage metrics and the battery usage forecast for the particular electric vehicle.
49 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the computer processing system is configured to execute the program instructions to determine the battery charging profile based on the battery usage metrics and the charging history.
50 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the computer processing system is configured to execute the program instructions to:
determine that a predetermined number of preceding charges of the particular electric vehicle were fast charges; and in response to determining that the predetermined number of preceding charges of the particular electric vehicle were fast charges, determine the battery charging profile to be a slow charge profile.
51 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the third party is the owner of the battery of the particular electric vehicle.
52 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the computer processing system is configured to execute the program instructions to:
determine compensation owed to the third party based on battery usage of the particular electric vehicle.

The system of claim 47 , wherein the computer processing system is configured to execute the program instructions to determine the battery usage metrics by determining an average battery discharge rate, a maximum battery discharge rate, or a median battery discharge rate, or any combination thereof.
54 . The system of claim 47 , wherein the computer processing system is configured to execute the program instructions to:
assign different users to the particular electric vehicle over time.
55 . A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising program instructions, the program instructions when executed by a computer processing system cause the computer processing system to:
monitor battery usage metrics for batteries of electric vehicles shared by users; determine a battery charging profile that indicates how quickly to charge a battery of a particular electric vehicle among the electric vehicles based on the battery usage metrics, charging history, or battery usage forecast, or any combination thereof; and determine a surcharge owed to a third party for charging the battery more rapidly than indicated by the particular battery charging profile.
56 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 55 , wherein the battery charging profile is determined based on the battery usage metrics and the battery usage forecast for the particular electric vehicle.
57 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 55 , wherein the battery charging profile is determined based on the battery usage metrics and the charging history.
58 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 55 , wherein the program instructions when executed by the computer processing system further cause the computer processing system to:
