Container for Providing Aromatic Sampling And Visualization Of Contents

Abstract

Aspects of the present invention disclose and describe embodiment containers for displaying, visualizing, and aroma sampling botanical materials—such as tea, cannabis, and the like including a container body, lid, and lens—which may have various shapes. In a preferred embodiment, lid is shaped to define a recessed area with scent openings permitting aroma sampling of a sample contained within. A removable plug is shaped to fit within the recessed area of the lid. The container body and lid, with removable plug fit within the lid, form an airtight chamber within. A botanical sample may be visualized through the lens.

We claim: 
     
         1 . A lid mountable to a container body of a display container for botanical samples, comprising:
 a) a lid body having a top wall and a lid sidewall extending downwardly from an outer periphery of the top wall to a lower perimeter of the lid, the lid sidewall for secure engagement with an upper portion of the container body to enclose an interior chamber of the display container, the top wall having a transparent viewing section extending horizontally over and bounding the interior chamber from above for viewing of the botanical samples through the transparent viewing section;   b) one or more scent ports extending through the top wall and spaced apart from the transparent viewing section; and   c) a plug mounted to the top wall in spaced apart relation from the transparent viewing section to seal the one or more scent ports without obstructing viewing through the transparent viewing section, the plug movable away from the top wall to expose the one or more scent ports for sampling an aroma of the botanical samples.   
     
     
         2 . The lid of  claim 1 , wherein the top wall has an interior surface directed toward the interior chamber, an exterior surface opposite the interior surface, and a recess in the exterior surface and spaced apart from the transparent viewing section, and wherein the one or more scent ports are located in the recess. 
     
     
         3 . The lid of  claim 2 , wherein the recess has a recess endwall spaced inwardly from the exterior surface toward the interior chamber and a recess sidewall extending between the endwall and the exterior surface of the top wall, and wherein the one or more scent ports extend through the recess endwall. 
     
     
         4 . The lid of  claim 2 , wherein the plug is nested in the recess over the one or more scent ports and is removable from the recess for exposing the scent ports. 
     
     
         5 . The lid of  claim 2 , wherein the plug includes a first portion nested in the recess for covering the scent ports, and a second portion projecting away from the top wall to facilitate removal of the first portion from the recess for exposing the scent ports. 
     
     
         6 . The lid of  claim 5 , wherein the first portion of the plug corresponds in shape and size to the recess. 
     
     
         7 . The lid of  claim 1 , wherein the top wall lies in a generally horizontal plane. 
     
     
         8 . The lid of  claim 7 , wherein the recess is spaced horizontally apart from a horizontal centerpoint of the top wall. 
     
     
         9 . The lid of  claim 8 , wherein the recess is spaced apart from the lid sidewall. 
     
     
         10 . The lid of  claim 7 , wherein the transparent viewing section extends over a horizontal centerpoint of the top wall. 
     
     
         11 . The lid of  claim 1 , wherein the transparent viewing section comprises a lens. 
     
     
         12 . The lid of  claim 11 , wherein the top wall has an aperture extending therethrough and the lens is mounted in the aperture. 
     
     
         13 . The lid of  claim 1 , wherein the transparent viewing section comprises a window. 
     
     
         14 . The lid of  claim 1 , wherein the one or more scent ports comprise a plurality of scent ports. 
     
     
         15 . The lid of  claim 14 , wherein the plurality of scent ports include a first row of scent ports and a second row of scent ports spaced part from the first row of the scent ports. 
     
     
         16 . The lid of  claim 1 , wherein each scent port of the one or more scent ports is less than ¼ inch in diameter. 
     
     
         17 . The lid of  claim 1 , wherein the plug and the lid body are formed of polymeric material. 
     
     
         18 . The lid of  claim 1 , further comprising a card holder projecting from the lid body and configured to hold a card providing information about the botanical specimen. 
     
     
         19 . A lid mountable to a container body of a display container for botanical samples, comprising:
 a) a lid body shaped for engagement with the container body to securely enclose an interior chamber of the display container, the lid body having an interior surface directed toward the interior chamber, an exterior surface opposite the interior surface, a recess in the exterior surface, and a transparent viewing section spaced apart from the recess and extending horizontally over the interior chamber for viewing of the botanical samples in the interior chamber;   b) one or more scent ports extending through the lid body, the one or more scent ports located in the recess; and   c) a plug nested in the recess and sealing the one or more scent ports, the plug removable from the recess to expose the one or more scent ports for sampling an aroma of the botanical samples.   
     
     
         20 . A lid mountable to a container body of a display container for botanical samples, comprising:
 a) a lid body shaped for secure engagement with the container body to enclose an interior chamber of the display container, the lid body having a transparent viewing section extending over the interior chamber for viewing of the botanical samples through the transparent viewing section;   b) one or more scent ports extending through the lid body; and   c) a plug mounted to the lid body in spaced apart relation from the transparent viewing section to seal the one or more scent ports without obstructing viewing through the transparent viewing section, the plug movable away from the lid body to expose the one or more scent ports for sampling an aroma of the botanical samples.
