Abstract

Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage mediums are provided for facilitating a task in a retail commerce environment. A request to facilitate performance of a commerce-related task is sent. In response to receiving the request, a task flow including an execution sequence for services associated with the commerce-related task is coordinated. The services are invoked in order according to the execution sequence. Rules and events associated with the services are triggered. Information is routed between rules, events, and services to facilitate completion of the commerce-related task. The services are maintained and customizations are administered to the services. A result of the performance of the commerce-related task is rendered.

22 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
receiving a request to evaluate a rule associated with one of the plurality of sub-tasks; and evaluating the rule based on criteria corresponding to the rule.

23 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising:
receiving a request to execute a sub-task of the plurality of sub-tasks; invoking a service corresponding to the sub-task, the service facilitating execution of the sub-task; receiving a result of the sub-task as a result of execution of the sub-task; and sending confirmation that the sub-task is executed.

24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the request is received from a client device.

25 . The method of claim 24 , wherein the client device comprises a device used by at least one of a customer, a sales associate, a department manager, a floor manager, a sales manager, an inventory manager, a supplier, a distributor, and a third-party vendor.

26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the commerce-related task comprises at least one of adding an item to a shopping cart, ordering an item, checking a price of an item, calculating a shipping cost for an item, paying for an item, and returning an item.

27 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the request includes context information associated with the commerce-related task, the context information required to execute the plurality of sub-tasks of the task flow.

28 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising receiving a modification of the sub-task, and implementing the modification of the sub-task.

29 . A system for executing a multistep commerce-related task in a commerce environment, the system comprising:
a processor implemented orchestration module configured to: receive a request in a computer-readable format for execution of a commerce-related task in a commerce environment; retrieve a task flow from a non-transitory computer-readable medium in response to the request, the task flow identifying a plurality of sub-tasks and defining a sequence with which to execute the plurality of sub-tasks to facilitate completion of the commerce-related task; and control an order of execution of the plurality of sub-tasks according to the sequence defined by the task flow, the plurality of sub-tasks being executed independently and discretely of each other.

30 . The system of claim 29 , further comprising a rule module configured to:
receive a request to evaluate a rule associated with one of the plurality of sub-tasks; and
evaluate the rule based on criteria corresponding to the rule.

31 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the orchestration module is further configured to:
receive a request to execute a sub-task of the plurality of sub-tasks; invoke a service corresponding to the sub-task, the service facilitating execution of the sub-task; receive a result of the sub-task as a result of execution of the sub-task; and send confirmation that the sub-task is executed.

32 . The system of claim 29 , further comprising an extension module configured to:
receive a modification of the sub-task; and implement the modification of the sub-task.

33 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the request includes context information associated with the commerce-related task, the context information required to execute the plurality of steps of the task flow.

34 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the commerce-related task comprises at least one of adding an item to a shopping cart, ordering an item, checking a price of an item, calculating a shipping cost for an item, paying for an item, and returning an item.

35 . The system of claim 29 , wherein the request is received from a client device.

36 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage device configured to store instructions executable by a processing device, wherein execution of the instructions in a commerce environment causes the processing device to implement a method of executing a multistep commerce-related task in the commerce environment comprising:
receiving a request in a computer-readable format for execution of a commerce-related task in a commerce environment; retrieving a task flow in response to the request, the task flow identifying a plurality of sub-tasks and defining a sequence with which to execute the plurality of sub-tasks to facilitate completion of the commerce-related task; and controlling an order of execution of the plurality of sub-tasks according to the sequence defined by the task flow, the plurality of sub-tasks being executed independently and discretely of each other.

37 . The non-transitory storage device of claim 36 , wherein the method implemented upon execution of the instructions by the processing device further comprises:
receiving a request to evaluate a rule associated with one of the plurality of sub-tasks; and
