Abstract
Aspects of the invention include methods of removing carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) from a CO 2 containing gas. In some instances, the methods include contacting CO 2 containing gas with a bicarbonate buffered aqueous medium under conditions sufficient to produce a bicarbonate rich product. Where desired, the resultant bicarbonate rich product or a component thereof may then be stored or further processed, e.g., combined with a divalent alkaline earth metal cation, under conditions sufficient to produce a solid carbonate composition. Aspects of the invention further include systems for practicing the methods, as well as products produced by the methods.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 54 . (canceled)
55 . A high albedo concrete composition, the concrete composition comprising:
a highly reflective solid carbonate material that is produced by sequestering carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) from a CO 2 containing gas into CO 2 -sequestering aggregate.
56 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 55 , wherein the material comprises a microcrystalline carbonate component.
57 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 56 , wherein the microcrystalline carbonate component has a crystal size ranging from 0.1 microns to 100 microns.
58 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 57 , wherein the microcrystalline carbonate component comprises a metal carbonate.
59 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 55 , wherein the material comprises at least one of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate.
60 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 55 , wherein the material is amorphous.
61 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 55 , wherein the material is prepared by: contacting a CO 2 containing gas with an aqueous medium under conditions sufficient to produce a bicarbonate rich product; and precipitating a carbonate from the bicarbonate rich product.
62 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 61 , wherein the bicarbonate rich product comprises droplets of a liquid condensed phase (LCP) in a bulk liquid.
63 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 55 , wherein the material has a solar reflectance ranging from 25 to 99%.
64 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 63 , wherein the material has a near infra-red (NIR) reflectance ranging from 25 to 99%.
65 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 63 , wherein the material has an ultra-violet (UV) reflectance ranging from 25 to 99%.
66 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 63 , wherein the material has a visible light reflectance ranging from 25 to 99%.
67 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 55 , further comprising one or more pigments.
68 . The high albedo concrete composition according to claim 55 , wherein the highly reflective material is applied to a surface of the composition.Cited by (0)
