Abstract

The present invention provides a corn plant designated MON88017 and DNA compositions contained therein. Also provided are assays for detecting the presence of the corn plant MON88017 based on a DNA sequence and the use of this DNA sequence as a molecular marker in a DNA detection method.

         33 . A recombinant DNA molecule comprising the nucleotide sequence of:
 (a) nucleotides 104-7229 of SEQ ID NO:5; or   (b) a nucleotide sequence completely complementary to (a),   
     
     
         34 . The recombinant DNA molecule of  claim 33 , wherein said DNA molecule is derived from corn event MON 88017, a representative sample of seed comprising corn event MON 88017 having been deposited under ATCC Accession No. PTA-5582. 
     
     
         35 . The recombinant DNA molecule of  claim 33 , further comprising SEQ ID NO:30 or SEQ ID NO:31. 
     
     
         36 . A corn plant, or corn plant part thereof comprising the recombinant polynucleotide molecule of  claim 33 . 
     
     
         37 . The corn plant, or corn plant part thereof of  claim 36 , wherein said recombinant DNA molecule is integrated in the genome of said corn plant between the polynucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:30 and SEQ ID NO:31. 
     
     
         38 . The corn plant, or corn plant part thereof of  claim 36 , wherein said corn plant, or corn plant part thereof is tolerant to glyphosate herbicide treatment. 
     
     
         39 . The corn plant, or corn plant part thereof of  claim 36 , wherein said corn plant, or corn plant part is resistant to corn rootworm. 
     
     
         40 . The corn plant or corn plant part thereof of  claim 36 , wherein said corn plant, or corn plant part thereof is tolerant to glyphosate herbicide treatment and resistant to corn rootworm. 
     
     
         41 . The corn plant, or corn plant part thereof of  claim 36 , wherein said corn plant is further defined as a progeny plant of any generation of a corn plant comprising event MON 88017. 
     
     
         42 . The corn plant, or corn plant part thereof of  claim 36 , wherein said corn plant is a hybrid corn plant. 
     
     
         43 . A corn seed that produces the plant of  claim 36 . 
     
     
         44 . A corn plant comprising a transgene integrated in the genome of said corn plant between SEQ ID NO:30 and SEQ ID NO:31, wherein the transgene comprises:
 a) a nucleic acid molecule encoding a glyphosate insensitive CP4 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase enzyme operably linked to a rice Actin 1 promoter that confers glyphosate herbicide tolerance to said plant; or   b) a nucleic acid molecule encoding a Cry3Bb protein operably linked to a CaMV e35S promoter that confers tolerance to corn rootworm to said plant.   
     
     
         45 . The corn plant of  claim 44 , wherein said transgene comprises nucleotides 104-7229 of SEQ ID NO:5. 
     
     
         46 . A corn seed that produces the plant of  claim 44 .
