Abstract

A component for a vehicle interior configured for a module comprising a radiation source to administer a dose of radiation to an object may comprise a base comprising a compartment for the object; a cover moveable relative to the base from a closed position to an open position; and a platform configured to position the object for administration of the dose of radiation when the cover is in the closed position. The platform may move to position the object for access when the cover is in the open position. The radiation source may comprise a lower light source separated from an upper light source by the platform. The platform may move with the cover. The component may comprise a mechanism to facilitate movement of the platform. The component may comprise a storage compartment; glove box; floor console; overhead console; trim panel; and/or door panel.

The invention claimed is: 
     
         1 . A component for a vehicle interior configured for a module comprising a radiation source to administer a dose of radiation to an object comprising:
 (a) a base comprising a compartment for the object;   (b) a cover for the base configured to move between an open position and a closed position;   (c) a platform in the compartment configured to move between an extended position and a retracted position;   wherein the module is configured to administer the dose of radiation to the object when the cover is in the closed position and the platform is in the retracted position;   wherein the base is configured so that the object can be placed on the platform when the cover is in the open position and the platform is in the extended position.   
     
     
         2 . The component of  claim 1  further comprising a mechanism for the platform configured (a) to retain the platform in the retracted position; and/or (b) to guide movement of the platform from the retracted position to the extended position. 
     
     
         3 . The component of  claim 2  wherein the mechanism for the platform is configured to move the platform from the retracted position to the extended position after administration of the dose of radiation. 
     
     
         4 . The component of  claim 2  wherein the mechanism for the platform comprises a latch configured to retain the platform in the retracted position. 
     
     
         5 . The component of  claim 4  wherein the mechanism for the platform comprises an actuator configured to unlatch the platform after administration of the dose of radiation. 
     
     
         6 . The component of  claim 1  wherein the radiation source comprises an upper light source and a lower light source; wherein the platform is configured to facilitate passage of radiation from the lower light source to the object. 
     
     
         7 . The component of  claim 1  wherein the platform comprises a tray. 
     
     
         8 . The component of  claim 1  comprising at least one of a storage compartment; a glove box; a console; a floor console; an overhead console; a trim panel; and/or a door panel. 
     
     
         9 . A component for a vehicle interior configured for a module comprising a radiation source to administer a dose of radiation to an object comprising:
 (a) a base comprising a compartment for the object;   (b) a cover moveable relative to the base between a closed position to an open position; and   (c) a platform configured to move between an extended position for placement of the object and a retracted position for administration of the dose of radiation to the object when the cover is in the closed position;   wherein the radiation source comprises an upper light source and a lower light source separated from the upper light source by the platform.   
     
     
         10 . The component of  claim 9  wherein the dose of radiation comprises a dose of ultraviolet light; wherein the platform comprises a mesh configured to facilitate passage of ultraviolet light from the lower light source to the object. 
     
     
         11 . The component of  claim 9  further comprising a mechanism configured to move the platform from the retracted position to the extended position after administration of the dose of radiation. 
     
     
         12 . The component of  claim 11  wherein the mechanism comprises an actuator configured to release the platform after administration of the dose of radiation. 
     
     
         13 . The component of  claim 9  further comprising a user interface configured for operation of the module. 
     
     
         14 . The component of  claim 13  wherein the platform comprises the user interface. 
     
     
         15 . A component for a vehicle interior configured for a module comprising a radiation source to administer a dose of radiation to an object comprising:
 (a) a base comprising a compartment for the object;   (b) a cover configured for movement relative to the base from a closed position to an open position; and   (c) a platform configured to provide an extended position for placement of the object and a retracted position for administration of the dose of ultraviolet light to the object when the cover is in the closed position;   wherein the platform is configured to move with the cover to the extended position when the cover is in the open position and to the retracted position when the cover is in the closed position.   
     
     
         16 . The component of  claim 15  wherein the platform is configured to position the object for access when the cover is in the open position. 
     
     
         17 . The component of  claim 15  wherein the platform is configured to position the object for administration of the dose of radiation when the cover is in the closed position. 
     
     
         18 . The component of  claim 15  wherein the radiation source comprises an upper light source and a lower light source; wherein the platform is configured to facilitate passage of ultraviolet light from the lower light source to the object. 
     
     
         19 . The component of  claim 15  wherein the base comprises a user interface configured for operation of the module; wherein the cover comprises a light guide aligned with the user interface. 
     
     
         20 . The component of  claim 15  further comprising the module comprising the radiation source; wherein the radiation source comprises a light source comprising at least one of (a) an LED; (b) an LED lamp; (c) an LED array; (d) at least one LED; (e) a set of two LEDs; (f) a lamp installed within the base; (g) a light emitting diode installed within the base; (h) a UV-C LED installed within the base; (i) an LED arrangement; (j) an ultraviolet light source; (k) an upper light source and a lower light source.
