Abstract
The present invention relates to compositions comprising a silicate and methods of use thereof. In particular, the compositions of the present invention are suitable for treating inflammatory conditions, cancer, bacterial and viral infections, and infected and uninfected wounds. The compositions of the present invention can also be useful in treating spinal cord injury, tissue remodeling, and promoting bone growth and repair.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 .- 23 . (canceled)
. A method of ameliorating a bacterial infection, or ameliorating the symptoms of a bacterial infection, comprising administering to a subject in need of such amelioration a composition comprising a solution with an active agent, wherein the active agent consists essentially of a silicate that liberates orthosilicic acid in vivo, and the solution has a pH of about 6.5-7.8; and the active agent is present at a concentration of about 1-5 mg/mL.
. The method of claim 24 , wherein the composition is administered parenterally, orally, topically, intravenously or subcutaneously.
. The method of claim 24 , wherein the aqueous solution has a pH of 7.6.
. The method of claim 24 , wherein the active agent is present at a concentration of about 5 mg/mL.
. The method of claim 24 , wherein the active agent is present at a concentration of about 1-3 mg/mL.
. The method of claim 24 , wherein the active agent is present at a concentration of about 1-2 mg/mL.
. The method of claim 24 , wherein said administering is oral or intravenous.
. The method of claim 24 , wherein said administering is topical.
. The method of claim 24 , wherein the active agent is silicic acid.
. The method of claim 24 , wherein the bacterial infection is caused by a bacterium selected from the group consisting of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium difficile, Clostridium perfringens , and enterococci.
. The method of claim 24 , wherein the bacterial infection is caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
. A method of ameliorating a bacterial infection, or ameliorating the symptoms of a bacterial infection, comprising administering to a subject in need of such amelioration a composition, wherein the composition is prepared by a method consisting essentially of forming an aqueous solution of an orthosilicic acid salt and adjusting the pH of said solution to about 6.0-8.0, wherein said administering is by injection.
. The method of claim 35 , wherein the bacterial infection is caused by a bacterium selected from the group consisting of methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Clostridium difficile, Clostridium perfringens , and enterococci.
. The method of claim 35 , wherein the bacterial infection is caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
. The method of claim 35 , wherein the solution has a pH of about 6.5-7.8.
. The method of claim 35 , wherein the aqueous solution has a pH of 7.6.
. The method of claim 35 , wherein the active agent is present at a concentration of about 5 mg/mL.
. The method of claim 35 , wherein the active agent is present at a concentration of about 1-3 mg/mL.
. The method of claim 35 , wherein the active agent is present at a concentration of about 1-2 mg/mL.
. The method of claim 35 , wherein the active agent is silicic acid.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
