Abstract
Ambulatory infusion pumps, pump assemblies, cartridges, baseplates, cannulas, insertion tools, and related components as well as combinations thereof and related methods.

2 . A system comprising:
a pump assembly comprising:
a body defining a through-bore extending therethrough;
a reservoir disposed within the body and configured to contain medicament therein;
a fluid path extending between the reservoir and the through-bore; and
a pump mechanism configured to drive medicament from the reservoir through the fluid path;
a cannula defining a lumen extending therethrough, the cannula configured to be disposed in an inserted position within the through-bore of the pump assembly such that the fluid path of the pump assembly is in fluid communication with the cannula lumen; and an insertion tool configured to releasably receive the cannula therein, the insertion tool configured to:
be releasably mated to the pump assembly body;
while releasably mated to the pump assembly body, move the cannula into the inserted position within the through-bore; and
after moving the cannula into the inserted position within the through-bore, be separated from the pump assembly body while leaving the cannula in the inserted position within the through-bore.
3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the cannula comprises a cannula head having a bottom opening in fluid communication with the cannula lumen, a side opening, a medicament fluid path between the side and bottom openings, an upper sealing device above the side opening and a lower sealing device below the side opening, and wherein in the inserted position the side opening is in fluid communication with the fluid path extending between the reservoir and the through-bore.
4 . The system of claim 2 , wherein in the inserted position a portion of the cannula extends beyond a bottom surface of the pump assembly body.
5 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the insertion tool comprises a movable member disposed within a housing, and an actuator that causes the movable member to move within the housing, wherein the cannula is removably coupled to the movable member.
6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the actuator is configured to be manually activated by a user.
7 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the actuator comprises a spring.
8 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the insertion tool further comprises a trocar configured to extend through the cannula lumen.
9 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the insertion tool is configured to be releasably mated to the pump assembly body by abutting a lower portion of the insertion tool against an upper surface of the pump assembly body at a region adjacent the through-bore.
10 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the cannula comprises a securement mechanism to secure the cannula to the body of the pump assembly while in the inserted position.
11 . The system of claim 10 , wherein the securement mechanism comprises a latch.
12 . A system comprising:
a pump assembly comprising:
a body defining a receptacle;
a reservoir disposed within the body and configured to contain medicament therein;
a fluid path extending between the reservoir and the receptacle; and
a pump mechanism configured to drive medicament from the reservoir through the fluid path; and
a cannula configured to be mated with the pump assembly by being placed within the receptacle via an insertion tool, the cannula comprising:
a lower portion configured to extend beyond a bottom surface of the pump assembly body when mated with the pump assembly; and
a lumen extending therethrough and configured to be in fluid communication with the reservoir via the fluid path when mated with the pump assembly.
13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the cannula comprises a cannula head having a bottom opening in fluid communication with the cannula lumen, a side opening, a medicament fluid path between the side and bottom openings, an upper sealing device above the side opening and a lower sealing device below the side opening, and wherein in the inserted position the side opening is in fluid communication with the fluid path extending between the reservoir and the receptacle.
14 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the cannula comprises a securement mechanism to secure the cannula to the body of the pump assembly while in the inserted position.
15 . The system of claim 14 , wherein the securement mechanism comprises a latch.
16 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the receptacle comprises a through-bore extending through the pump assembly body.
17 . A method comprising:
disposing a pump assembly over a patient's skin, the pump assembly comprising:
a body defining a through-bore extending therethrough;
a reservoir disposed within the body and configured to contain medicament therein; and
a pump mechanism configured to drive medicament out of the reservoir; and
mating an insertion tool with the pump assembly, the insertion tool carrying a cannula therein; actuating the insertion tool to drive the cannula into the through-bore such that the cannula is in fluid communication with the reservoir and at least a portion of the cannula penetrates the patient's skin.
18 . The method of claim 17 , further comprising delivering medicament from the reservoir through the cannula and into the patient.
19 . The method of claim 17 , further comprising, after actuating the insertion tool, separating the insertion tool from the pump assembly while leaving the pump assembly in position over the patient's skin.
20 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the insertion tool is a handheld device, and wherein actuating the insertion tool comprises manually actuating the insertion too.
21 . The method of claim 17 , wherein mating the insertion tool with the pump assembly comprises abutting a lower portion of the insertion tool with an upper portion of the pump assembly body adjacent to the through-bore.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
