Method for enhancing a user viewing experience when consuming a sequence of media

Abstract

Methods and systems are described for a media guidance application that enhances the viewing experiences of users consuming a sequence of media. In particular, the media guidance application may enhance the viewing experiences of users consuming a sequence of media by removing portions of redundant media that were previously consumed by the user.

         51 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:
 obtaining skip preference data applicable to a plurality of content items accessible via a user profile;   determining, based on the skip preference data, whether to automatically skip one or more portions of one or more content items during playing of a first content item; and   in response to determining to automatically skip one or more portions of the one or more content items based on the skip preference data, causing a closing credit sequence of the first content item to be skipped and causing an opening credit sequence of a second content item to be skipped, wherein the second content item is related to the first content item.   
     
     
         52 . The method of  claim 51 , wherein each of the first content item and the second content item is part of a same series or a same episodic content.

The method of  claim 52 , wherein the first content item is a first episode of the episodic content and the second content item is a second episode of the episodic content coming after the first episode, or the first content item is a first program of the series and the second content item is a second program of the series coming after the first program. 
     
     
         54 . The method of  claim 51 , wherein causing the opening credit sequence of the second content item to be skipped comprises causing a recap of the first content item to be skipped. 
     
     
         55 . The method of  claim 51 , wherein causing the opening credit sequence of the second content item to be skipped comprises causing a title portion of the second content item to be skipped. 
     
     
         56 . The method of  claim 51 , wherein obtaining the skip preference data comprises receiving a skip command via a computing device. 
     
     
         57 . The method of  claim 56 , the method further comprising updating the user profile based on receiving the skip command entered via the computing device 
     
     
         58 . The method of  claim 51 , further comprising reading the skip preference data from the user profile stored in memory to determine whether to automatically skip the one or more portions of the one or more content items during playing of the first content item. 
     
     
         59 . The method of  claim 51 , wherein obtaining the skip preference data comprises:
 receiving input in association with the user profile; and   storing in memory, based on the received input and in association with the user profile, the skip preference data.   
     
     
         60 . The method of  claim 51 , wherein obtaining the skip preference data comprises:
 determining that a threshold number of users have automatically skipped the one or more portions of the one or more content items.   
     
     
         61 . A computer-implemented system, comprising:
 memory;   control circuitry configured to:
 obtain skip preference data applicable to a plurality of content items accessible via a user profile stored in the memory; 
 determine, based on the skip preference data, whether to automatically skip one or more portions of one or more content items during playing of a first content item; and 
 in response to determining to automatically skip one or more portions of the one or more content items based on the skip preference data, cause a closing credit sequence of the first content item to be skipped and causing an opening credit sequence of a second content item to be skipped, wherein the second content item is related to the first content item. 
   
     
     
         62 . The system of  claim 61 , wherein each of the first content item and the second content item is part of a same series or a same episodic content.

The system of  claim 62 , wherein the first content item is a first episode of the episodic content and the second content item is a second episode of the episodic content coming after the first episode, or the first content item is a first program of the series and the second content item is a second program of the series coming after the first program. 
     
     
         64 . The system of  claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to cause the opening credit sequence of the second content item to be skipped by causing a recap of the first content item to be skipped. 
     
     
         65 . The system of  claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to cause the opening credit sequence of the second content item to be skipped by causing a title portion of the second content item to be skipped. 
     
     
         66 . The system of  claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to obtain the skip preference data by receiving a skip command via a computing device. 
     
     
         67 . The system of  claim 66 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to update the user profile based on receiving the skip command entered via the computing device

The system of  claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry is further configured to read the skip preference data from the user profile stored in the memory to determine whether to automatically skip the one or more portions of the one or more content items during playing of the first content item. 
     
     
         69 . The system of  claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to obtain the skip preference data by:
 receiving input in association with the user profile; and   storing in the memory, based on the received input and in association with the user profile, the skip preference data.   
     
     
         70 . The system of  claim 61 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to obtain the skip preference data by:
 determining that a threshold number of users have automatically skipped the one or more portions of the one or more content items.
