Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for displaying and interacting with multiple open views in a mobile environment. An example method can include displaying a current pane in a maximized state and at least a first pane in a minimized state in a dock area. The current pane is a top of a stack list and displays content associated with a first location and the first pane is in a dock list and displays content associated with a second location. The minimized state for a pane is a scaled down version of the maximized state for the pane, the scale applying to the content for the pane and a size of the pane. The method also includes receiving a drag input on the first pane in the dock area and scaling the size of the first pane according to proximity to the dock area.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . (canceled)

         2 . A method comprising:
displaying a first pane in a maximized state and at least a second pane in a minimized state in a dock area, wherein the first pane displays first content and the second pane displays second content, wherein the minimized state for a pane is an active view of content scaled down from the maximized state for the pane, the scale applying to the content for the pane and a size of the pane; receiving an input on the second pane; and in response to receiving the input:
scaling the size of the second pane proportionally to proximity to the dock area, wherein as the second pane approaches the dock area the size of the first pane approaches the minimized state, and
replacing the first pane in the maximized state with the second pane in a maximized state.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first pane updates in parallel with the second pane.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the input is a drag input.

5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the dock area occupies a side of the display.

6 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first content is content associated with a first browser window and the second content is content associated with a second browser window.

7 . The method of claim 6 , further comprising:
receiving a long touch input on a navigation control in the second content, the long touch input lacking a distance component; and opening a third pane, the third pane being associated with content for a target location of the navigation control.

8 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising opening the third pane in the dock area.

9 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the dock area displays a predetermined number of panes in the dock area.

10 . The method of claim 9 , wherein the predetermined number is dependent on an orientation of the display.

         11 . A computing device comprising:
a display; at least one processor; and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computing device to provide a user interface configured to:
display a first pane in a maximized state, the maximized state being an active view of content and occupying a majority of the display,
display second panes in a dock area, wherein at most a predetermined number of second panes are displayed simultaneously in the dock area, and wherein the second panes are displayed in a minimized state, the minimized state of a pane being an active view of a smaller version of content displayed when the pane is displayed in the maximized state, and
responsive to receiving a gesture on a particular pane of the second panes: remove the particular pane from the dock area, and display the particular pane in a maximized state.

12 . The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the first pane updates in parallel with the second panes.

13 . The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the gesture us a throwing gesture.

14 . The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the gesture is a dragging gesture.

15 . The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the particular pane replaces the first pane in the maximized state.

16 . The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the predetermined number is dependent on an orientation of the display.

17 . The computing device of claim 11 , wherein removing the particular pane from the dock area and displaying the particular pane in the maximized state includes scaling a size of the particular pane proportionally to proximity to the dock area.

18 . The computing device of claim 11 , wherein the content of the first pane is content associated with a first browser window and the content of the second panes are content associated with other browser windows.

19 . The computing device of claim 18 , further comprising:
receiving a long touch input on a navigation control in content of the particular pane, the long touch input lacking a distance component; and opening a third pane, the third pane being associated with content for a target location of the navigation control.

20 . The computing device of claim 19 , further comprising opening the third pane in the dock area.
