Abstract

Internet-of-things (IOT) devices can be identified based on specific behavioral patterns when their identification data is unknown. Previously identified IOT devices with similar behavioral patterns can be used as a baseline from which to compare data that is available about unknown IOT devices. For example, an IOT device can be pooled with a group of IOT devices based on the frequency with which they connect to a wireless network. Additionally, a confidence level of the unknown device being associated with the group of IOT devices can be generated based on such comparison data.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising adding, by the network equipment, a record for the first Internet of Things device to the data repository comprising the international mobile equipment identifier of the first Internet of Things device, the first behaviors of the first Internet of Things device, and the first Internet of Things device type of the first Internet of Things device.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining, by the network equipment, a confidence level with respect to the first Internet of Things device being the first Internet of Things device type.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the response comprises the confidence level with respect to the Internet of Things device type of the first Internet of Things device being a first Internet of Things device type.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first behaviors or the second behaviors comprises frequency of connection to a network.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first behaviors or the second behaviors comprises duration of connection to a network.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first behaviors or the second behaviors comprises signal strength.

         8 . Network equipment, comprising:
a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
 receiving a query to identify an Internet of Things device type of a first Internet of Things device, wherein the query comprises an international mobile equipment identifier of the first Internet of Things device and first behaviors of the first Internet of Things device;
identifying, from a database of Internet of Things devices, a second Internet of Things device in the database having second behaviors that match the first behaviors of the first Internet of Things device according to a criterion, wherein the second Internet of Things device is of a first Internet of Things device type, and wherein the database comprises respective international mobile equipment identifiers of the Internet of Things devices, respective Internet of Things device types of the Internet of Things devices, and respective behaviors of the Internet of Things devices; and
transmitting a response to the query indicating that the Internet of Things device type of the first Internet of Things device is the first Internet of Things device type.

9 . The network equipment of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise adding a record for the first Internet of Things device to the database comprising the international mobile equipment identifier of the first Internet of Things device, the first behaviors of the first Internet of Things device, and the first Internet of Things device type of the first Internet of Things device.

10 . The network equipment of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise determining a confidence level of the first Internet of Things device being the first Internet of Things device type.

11 . The network equipment of claim 10 , wherein the response comprises the confidence level of the first Internet of Things device being the first Internet of Things device type.

12 . The network equipment of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the first behaviors or the second behaviors comprises abnormalities in connecting to a network.

13 . The network equipment of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the first behaviors or the second behaviors comprises mobility patterns.

14 . The network equipment of claim 8 , wherein at least one of the first behaviors or the second behaviors comprises connection patterns to networks.

15 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor of network equipment, facilitate performance of operations, comprising:
accessing a data store of Internet of Things devices, wherein the data store comprises respective international mobile equipment identifiers of the Internet of Things devices, respective Internet of Things device types of the Internet of Things devices, and respective behaviors of the Internet of Things devices; receiving a query to identify an Internet of Things device type of a first Internet of Things device, wherein the query comprises an international mobile equipment identifier of the first Internet of Things device and first behaviors of the first Internet of Things device; identifying, from the data store, a second Internet of Things device in the data store having second behaviors that match the first behaviors of the first Internet of Things device according to a criterion, wherein the second Internet of Things device is a first Internet of Things device type; and communicating a response to the query indicating that the Internet of Things device type of the first Internet of Things device is the first Internet of Things device type.

16 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise adding a record for the first Internet of Things device to the data store comprising the international mobile equipment identifier of the first Internet of Things device, the first behaviors of the first Internet of Things device, and the first Internet of Things device type of the first Internet of Things device.
