Abstract

Disclosed are systems, methods, and non-transitory computer-readable storage media for setting a reminder triggered by a target device. A requesting device sends a request to a server to set a notification triggered by a target device. The request includes parameters, such as a location and a condition that define when the notification is triggered. The server sends instruction to the target device to set the notification based on the parameters. When the condition such as arrival is met by the target device in relation to the location the target device sends a message to the server that the notification has been triggered. The target device can set a geo-fence to determine the position of the target device in relation to the location, and the requesting user can dictate the size of the geo-fence. The server sends a message to the requesting device that the notification has been triggered.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A method comprising:
receiving, by a server, a request from a first device to enable a notification that is triggered by a second device entering or exiting a geofence surrounding a location; determining, by the server, that a user-selectable permission setting on the second device indicates that permission is granted to share the location of the second device upon triggering of the notification; and transmitting, by the server, an instruction to the second device to set up the trigger for the notification on the second device.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving, by the server, first information from the second device indicating that the notification has been triggered; and transmitting, by the server, second information to the first device indicating that the notification has been triggered.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the request indicates that the notification is triggered when the second device arrives at the location.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the request indicates that the notification is triggered when the second device departs from the location.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the request indicates that the notification is triggered when the second device enters or exits a geofence associated with the location.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the request indicates that the notification is repeated.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the request includes data specifying how long a trigger for the notification will remain in effect on the mobile device before it expires.

         8 . A mobile device comprising:
one or more processors; memory coupled to the one or more processors and configured to store instructions, which when executed by the one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform operations comprising: receiving, from a server, a request to enable a notification that is triggered by the mobile device entering or exiting a geofence surrounding a location; determining that a user-selectable permission setting on the mobile device indicates that permission is granted to share a location of the mobile device in response to the notification being triggered; and enabling the trigger for the notification on the mobile device.

9 . The mobile device of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:
determining, by the mobile device, that the notification is triggered; and sending information to the server indicating that the notification has been triggered on the mobile device.

10 . The mobile device of claim 8 , wherein the request indicates that the notification is triggered when the mobile device arrives at the location.

11 . The mobile device of claim 8 , wherein the request indicates that the notification is triggered when the mobile device departs from the location.

12 . The mobile device of claim 8 , wherein the request indicates that the notification is triggered when the mobile device enters or exits a geofence associated with the location.

13 . The mobile device of claim 8 , wherein the request indicates that the notification is repeated.

14 . The mobile device of claim 8 , wherein the request includes data specifying how long a trigger for the notification will remain in effect on the mobile device before it expires.

15 . A non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon instructions, which when executed by one or more processors of a mobile device, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
receiving, from a server, a request to enable a notification that is triggered by the mobile device entering or exiting a geofence surrounding a location; determining that a user-selectable permission setting on the mobile device indicates that permission is granted to share a location of the mobile device in response to the notification being triggered; and enabling the trigger for the notification on the mobile device.

         16 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , further comprising:
determining, by the mobile device, that the notification is triggered; sending, by the mobile device, information to the server indicating that the notification has been triggered on the mobile device.

17 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the request indicates that the notification is triggered when the mobile device arrives at the location.

18 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the request indicates that the notification is triggered when the mobile device departs from the location.

19 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the request indicates that the notification is triggered when the mobile device enters or exits a geofence associated with the location.

20 . The non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the request indicates that the notification is repeated.
