Abstract

In one embodiment, a method includes receiving, by a device, playback content. The playback content is associated with an ATSC signal. The method also includes identifying, by the device, one or more markers in the playback content, communicating, by the device, information associated with the one or more markers to an advertisement decision engine, and receiving, by the device, a URL for an addressable targeted programmatic advertisement from the advertisement decision engine. The method further includes inserting, by the device, the addressable targeted programmatic advertisement URL into the playback content.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

         1 . A device comprising:
a processing system including a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processing system, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
 appending information associated with the device to an advertisement request, resulting in an appended advertisement request, wherein the appended advertisement request comprises information associated with one or more markers in playback content received via an Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) tuner of a dongle coupled to the device, and wherein the information associated with the one or more markers comprises a channel identification, an advertisement break identification, an advertisement break duration, or a combination thereof;
obtaining a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for an addressable targeted programmatic advertisement, wherein the URL is provided by an advertisement decision engine based on the appended advertisement request; and
inserting the URL into the playback content.

2 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the dongle comprises a cache memory to temporarily store the playback content.

3 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise identifying the one or more markers in the playback content.

4 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the URL is obtained from the advertisement decision engine according to a video ad serving template (VAST).

5 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise extracting, from data provided by the advertisement decision engine, advertisement impression beacons associated with the addressable targeted programmatic advertisement.

6 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the appending, the obtaining, or both are performed by an advertisement software development kit (SDK).

7 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the information associated with the device comprises a device identification, an identification of a user of the device, an advertising identification, a location of the device, or a combination thereof.

8 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise parsing the playback content for one or more advertisement breaks, Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) periods, adaptations sets, segment lines, or a combination thereof.

9 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the processing system comprises a Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) player, and wherein the operations further comprise:
receiving, by the DASH player, an advertisement from an Internet; and communicating, by the DASH player, the advertisement received from the Internet.

10 . The device of claim 9 , wherein the operations further comprise receiving timed metadata from the DASH player when the DASH player plays the advertisement, and tracking advertisement impressions by communicating corresponding advertisement impression beacons in response to receiving the timed metadata.

11 . The device of claim 1 , wherein the ATSC tuner is capable of receiving ATSC 3.0 signals, and wherein the one or more markers comprise an SCTE-35 marker.

         12 . A method comprising:
identifying, by a processing system including a processor of a device, one or more markers in playback content, wherein the playback content is received via an Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) tuner of a dongle coupled to the device; appending, by the processing system, information associated with the device to an advertisement request, resulting in an appended advertisement request, wherein the advertisement request comprises information associated with the one or more markers, and wherein the information associated with the one or more markers comprises a channel identification, an advertisement break identification, an advertisement break duration, or a combination thereof; identifying, by the processing system, a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for an addressable targeted programmatic advertisement, wherein the URL is provided by an advertisement decision engine based on the appended advertisement request; and inserting, by the processing system, the URL into the playback content.

13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the dongle comprises a cache memory to temporarily store the playback content.

14 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the URL is received from the advertisement decision engine according to a video ad serving template (VAST).

15 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the appending, the identifying the URL, or both are performed by an advertisement software development kit (SDK).

16 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the information associated with the device comprises a device identification, an identification of a user of the device, an advertising identification, a location of the device, or a combination thereof.

17 . A non-transitory machine-readable medium comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor of a device, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
appending information associated with the device to an advertisement request resulting in an appended advertisement request, wherein the appended advertisement request comprises information associated with one or more markers in playback content received via an Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) tuner of a dongle coupled to the device, and wherein the information associated with the one or more markers comprises a channel identification, an advertisement break identification, an advertisement break duration, or a combination thereof; obtaining a Uniform Resource Locator (URL) for an addressable targeted programmatic advertisement, wherein the URL is provided by an advertisement decision engine based on the appended advertisement request; and associating the URL with the playback content.

18 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the operations further comprise identifying the one or more markers in the playback content.

19 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the URL is obtained from the advertisement decision engine according to a video ad serving template (VAST).

20 . The non-transitory machine-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the appending, the obtaining the URL, or both are performed by an advertisement software development kit (SDK).
