Abstract

In some aspects, the present disclosure provides a delivery device for delivering a detachable medical implant that comprises an elongated delivery member and a first engagement portion. The first engagement portion comprises a first proximal-facing surface, a first distal-facing surface, and a first lumen that is configured to accommodate an activation wire, wherein at least 50% of a surface area of the first proximal-facing surface is angled away from a proximal end of the first engagement portion. In other aspects, the present disclosure provides a medical delivery system comprising: such a delivery device; an implantable device comprising a medical device portion and a second engagement portion, the second engagement portion comprising a second lumen configured to accommodate an activation wire, a second proximal-facing surface and a second distal-facing surface; and an activation wire. Other aspects pertain to methods of medical device delivery using such a medical delivery system.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

1 . A delivery device for delivering a detachable medical implant comprising an elongated delivery member and a first engagement portion comprising a first proximal-facing surface and a first lumen that is configured to accommodate an activation wire, wherein the first proximal-facing surface comprises a portion of a spheroidal surface.

2 . The delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the first engagement portion comprises a spheroid or a portion of a spheroid, within which is formed the first lumen and which provides the first proximal-facing surface.

3 . The delivery device of claim 2 , wherein the spheroid is a sphere.

4 . The delivery device of claim 2 , wherein the elongated delivery member is attached to a portion of a circumference of the spheroid and wherein a plane passing through said circumference is normal to an axis of the first lumen.

5 . The delivery device of claim 2 , wherein at least a portion of a length of the elongated member comprises a longitudinally sliced portion of a hollow cylinder and wherein the spheroid is disposed in a concave side of the longitudinally sliced portion.

6 . The delivery device of claim 1 , wherein the engagement portion comprises a portion of a hollow cylinder.

7 . The delivery device of any one of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the elongated delivery member is a tubular and is adapted to receive the activation wire.

         8 . A medical delivery system comprising:
 (a) a delivery device comprising an elongated delivery member and a first engagement portion comprising a first proximal-facing surface and a first lumen that is configured to accommodate an activation wire. (b) an implantable device comprising a medical device portion and a second engagement portion comprising a second lumen, a second proximal-facing surface and a distal-facing surface, wherein the distal-facing surface comprises a portion of a spheroidal surface and (c) an activation wire, wherein the activation wire is configured to simultaneous occupy the first and second lumens thereby holding the first and second engagement portions in the coupled state, and wherein the activation wire is configured to be removed from the first and second lumens thereby releasing the first and second engagement portions from the coupled state.

9 . The medical delivery system of claim 8 , wherein the medical device portion comprises a vascular occlusion device.

10 . The medical delivery system of claim 8 , wherein the medical device portion comprises an embolic coil.

11 . The medical delivery system of claim 8 , wherein the second engagement portion comprises a first spheroid or a portion thereof, within which is formed the second lumen and which provides the distal-facing surface.

12 . The medical delivery system of claim 11 , wherein the first spheroid is a sphere.

13 . The medical delivery system of claim 11 , wherein the first engagement portion comprises a second spheroid or a portion thereof, within which is formed the first lumen and which provides the first proximal-facing surface.

14 . The medical delivery system of claim 11 , wherein the medical device comprises a spacing member, wherein the medical device portion and the second engagement portion are attached to the spacing member, and wherein the distal face of the second engagement portion is longitudinally spaced from a proximal end of the medical device portion by a gap within which the first engagement portion is positioned when the first and second engagement portions are in the coupled state.

15 . The medical delivery system of claim 11 , wherein the medical device comprises a first longitudinally sliced portion of a first hollow cylinder, wherein the medical device portion and the first spheroid or portion thereof are attached to a concave side of the first longitudinally sliced portion of the first hollow cylinder, and wherein the first spheroid or the portion thereof is longitudinally spaced from the medical device by a gap within which the first engagement portion is positioned when the first and second engagement portions are in the coupled state.

16 . The medical delivery system of claim 15 , wherein at least a portion of a length of the elongated delivery member comprises a second longitudinally sliced portion of a second hollow cylinder and wherein a second spheroid or portion thereof is disposed in a concave side of the second longitudinally sliced portion.

17 . A delivery device for delivering a detachable medical implant comprising:
an elongated delivery member; a first engagement portion at a distal end of the elongated delivery member, having a first engagement surface with a continuous curve extending to a crest and continues sloping distally to a distalmost tip; and a first lumen extending through the first engagement portion configured to accommodate an activation wire.

         18 . A medical delivery system comprising:
the delivery device of claim 17 ; an implantable device comprising a medical device portion and a second engagement portion at a proximal end of the implantable device having a second engagement surface with a continuous curve, the second engagement surface configured to engage the first engagement surface; a second lumen extending through the second engagement portion configured to accommodate the activation wire; and the activation wire, wherein the activation wire is configured to simultaneously occupy the first and second lumens.

19 . The medical delivery system of claim 18 , wherein the medical device portion comprises a vascular occlusion device.

20 . The medical delivery system of claim 18 , wherein the medical device portion comprises an embolic coil.
