Abstract

A medical implant including an expandable framework configured to shift between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, the expandable framework comprising a plurality of interconnected struts defining a plurality of cells; and an occlusive element connected to the expandable framework and having an inner surface and an outer surface. The expandable framework may include a plurality of securement members projecting from the plurality of interconnected struts. One of the inner surface or the outer surface of the occlusive element may be in contact with the plurality of interconnected struts, and the other of the inner surface and the outer surface not in contact with the plurality of interconnected struts may lie against an opposing surface of each of the plurality of securement members. A tip portion of the plurality of securement members may not extend radially outward of the plurality of interconnected struts.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified

         1 . A medical implant, comprising:
an expandable framework configured to shift between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, the expandable framework comprising a plurality of interconnected struts defining a disc portion and a body portion; a plurality of securement members coupled to the expandable framework, and wherein each of the securement members includes a base portion, a tip portion, and a body portion extending between the base portion and the tip portion; and an occlusive element connected to the expandable framework; wherein one or more of the plurality of securement members extend through the occlusive member to secure the occlusive member to the expandable framework.

2 . The medical implant of claim 1 , wherein the occlusive member covers at least a portion of the body portion, the disc portion, or both the body portion and the disc portion of the expandable framework.

3 . The medical implant of claim 1 , wherein the base portion of each of the plurality of securement members is attached to at least one of the plurality of struts defining the body portion.

4 . The medical implant of claim 1 , wherein the base portion of each of the plurality of securement members are attached to at least one of the plurality of struts defining the disc portion.

5 . The medical implant of claim 4 , wherein the body portion of one or more of the plurality of securement members is aligned with at least one of the plurality of struts defining the disc portion.

6 . The medical implant of claim 4 , wherein the expandable framework includes a central longitudinal axis, and wherein the body portion of one or more of the plurality of securement members extends toward the central longitudinal axis.

7 . The medical implant of claim 1 , wherein the occlusive member includes one or more apertures extending from an inner surface of the occlusive member to an outer surface of the occlusive member, and wherein each of the one or more apertures is configured to receive one of the plurality of securement members.

8 . The medical implant of claim 7 , wherein at least one of the plurality of securement members extends through each of the one or more apertures, and wherein the plurality of securement members secures the occlusive member to the expandable framework.

9 . The medical implant of claim 7 , wherein part of the body portion of one or more of the plurality of securement members extends along the outer surface of the occlusive element.

10 . The medical implant of claim 1 , wherein the body portion of one or more of the plurality of securement members is offset radially outward from the tip portion, base portion or both the tip portion and the base portion of its respective securement member.

11 . The medical implant of claim 1 , wherein the body portion of one or more of the plurality of securement members extends radially inward from the tip portion, base portion or both the tip portion and the base portion of its respective securement member.

12 . The medical implant of claim 1 , wherein the tip portion of one or more of the plurality of securement members extends radially inward from the body portion, base portion or both the body portion and the base portion of its respective securement member.

13 . The medical implant of claim 1 , wherein the base portion of one or more of the plurality of securement members extends radially inward from the tip portion, body portion or both the tip portion and the body portion of its respective securement member.

14 . The medical implant of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the plurality of securement members each have a barb projecting circumferentially therefrom.

15 . The medical implant of claim 14 , wherein the barb projects from the body portion of its respective securement member.

         16 . A medical implant, comprising:
an expandable framework configured to shift between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, the expandable framework comprising a plurality of interconnected struts defining a disc portion and a body portion; a plurality of securement members coupled to the expandable framework, and wherein each of the securement members includes a base portion, a tip portion, and a body portion extending between the base portion and the tip portion, and wherein one or more of the plurality of securement members each have a barb projecting circumferentially therefrom; and an occlusive element connected to the expandable framework; wherein the base portion of each of the plurality of securement members are attached to at least one of the plurality of struts defining the disc portion; wherein one or more of the plurality of securement members extends through the occlusive member to secure the occlusive element to the framework.

17 . The medical implant of claim 16 , wherein an inner surface of the occlusive element is in contact with an outer surface of the plurality of interconnected struts, and the outer surface of the occlusive element lies against an inner surface of the body portion of the plurality of securement members.

18 . The medical implant of claim 17 , wherein the tip portion of one or more of the plurality of securement members is configured to pierce the occlusive element.
