Abstract
Patient-adapted articular repair systems, including implants, instruments, and surgical plans, and methods of making and using such systems, are disclosed herein. In particular, various embodiments include methods of selecting and/or designing patient-adapted surgical repair systems using parameterized models and/or multibody simulations.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1 . A method of producing a system for treatment of a joint of a patient, the system including an implant and a jig, the method comprising:
receiving preoperative patient-specific image data of the joint; performing a first segmentation of at least a portion of the patient-specific image data to create a first model of one or more surfaces of the joint; creating a corrected model by modifying at least a portion of the first model to account for deformity present in the joint; performing a shape search of a case database of pre-existing implant designs; selecting an original implant design from the case database of pre-existing implant designs that is a best fit with the corrected model; creating a modified implant design by modifying the original implant design to improve fit with the corrected model; designing a personalized jig based, at least in part, on the first model; manufacturing the personalized jig; providing an implant based on the modified implant design; and packaging the personalized jig with the implant.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein providing includes:
obtaining an implant having a design corresponding to the original implant design; altering the implant shape based on the modified implant design.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein altering includes subtracting material from the implant by machining at least a portion of the implant.
4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein altering includes adding material to the implant utilizing laser sintering.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving preoperative patient-specific ligament information; and performing a multibody simulation based, at least in part, on the selected original implant design and the patient-specific ligament information.
6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein providing includes modifying the modified implant design based on results from the multibody simulation.
7 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
performing a shape search of a case database of pre-existing second implant component designs; selecting an original second implant component design from the case database of pre-existing second implant component designs that is a best fit with the corrected model; and providing a second implant component based on the second implant component design.
8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the second implant component is based on the original second implant component design without modification.
9 . The method of claim 7 , further comprising packaging the second implant component, personalized jig, and the implant together.
10 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the joint is a knee joint.
11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the implant is a femoral implant and the second implant component is a tibial implant.
12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the implant is a tibial implant and the second implant component is a femoral implant.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
