Abstract
Disclosed herein are methods and compositions for detecting Bordetella pertussis and Bordetella parapertussis by detecting the presence of the IS481 and IS1001 genomic insertion sequences, respectively.

34 . An isolated nucleic acid comprising a nucleotide sequence that is at least 95% identical to at least 20 contiguous nucleotides of SEQ ID NO: 2, or a complement thereof, and wherein said nucleic acid is less than 200 nucleotides in length.
