Abstract
The present invention relates to compositions and methods for coating paper products
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 26 . (canceled)
27 . A composition for coating paper products comprising a co-processed microfibrillated cellulose and inorganic particulate material composition, wherein the microfibrillated cellulose has a fibre steepness of from 20 to 50 and a d 50 of from 5 to 500 μm, and wherein when the coating composition is applied to a paper product, the coated paper product has a tensile strength greater than the tensile strength of the paper product coated with a control coating composition having the same composition except for the co-processed microfibrillated cellulose and inorganic particulate material composition.
28 . The composition according to claim 27 , wherein when the coating is applied to a paper product the coated paper product has a tensile strength about 5% greater, about 10% greater, or about 20% greater than the tensile strength of the coated paper product comprising a coating composition devoid of the co-processed microfibrillated cellulose and inorganic particulate material composition.
29 . The coating composition according to claim 1 , wherein the organic particulate material is calcium carbonate.
30 . The coating composition according to claim 1 , wherein the organic particulate material is kaolin.
31 . The coating composition according to claim 1 further comprising one or more of the following additives:
a. one or more pigments, such as calcium sulphate, satin white, and so-called ‘plastic pigment’;
b. one or more binding or co-binding agents;
c. one or more cross linkers;
d. one or more water retention aids;
e. one or more viscosity modifiers and/or thickeners;
f. one or more lubricity/calendering aids;
g. one or more dispersants;
h. one or more antifoamers and defoamers;
i. one or more optical brightening agents and fluorescent whitening agents;
j. one or more dyes;
k. one or more biocides/spoilage control agents;
l. one or more leveling and evening aids; and
m. one or more grease and oil resistance additives.
32 . A method for coating a paper product comprising:
providing a coating composition on the paper product to form a coating, wherein the coating composition comprises a co-processed microfibrillated cellulose and inorganic particulate material composition, wherein the microfibrillated cellulose has a fibre steepness of from 20 to 50 and a d 50 of from 5 to 500 μm, for the preparation of a coated paper product with a tensile strength about 5% greater, about 10% greater, or about 20% greater than the tensile strength of the coated paper product comprising a coating composition devoid of the co-processed microfibrillated cellulose and inorganic particulate material composition
33 . The method according to claim 32 , wherein the organic particulate material is calcium carbonate.
34 . The method according to claim 32 , wherein the organic particulate material is kaolin.
35 . The method according to claim 32 , wherein the composition further comprises one or more of the following additives:
a. one or more pigments, such as calcium sulphate, satin white, and so-called ‘plastic pigment’; b. one or more binding or co-binding agents; c. one or more cross linkers; d. one or more water retention aids; e. one or more viscosity modifiers and/or thickeners; f. one or more lubricity/calendering aids; g. one or more dispersants; h. one or more antifoamers and defoamers; i. one or more optical brightening agents and fluorescent whitening agents; j. one or more dyes; k. one or more biocides/spoilage control agents; l. one or more leveling and evening aids; and m. one or more grease and oil resistance additives.Cited by (0)
