Method and Apparatus that Collect and Uploads Implicit Analytic Data

Abstract

Techniques and/or apparatuses receive an indication that a user has entered a rating of first media content, determine, responsive to the indication that the user has entered the rating of the first media content, whether the user consumed the first media content prior to entering the rating. Responsive to a determination that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating, the techniques and/or apparatuses provide an indication that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating or weight the rating based on the determination that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating of the first media content.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A method comprising:
 receiving an indication that a user has entered a rating of first media content;   determining, responsive to the indication that the user has entered the rating of the first media content, whether the user consumed the first media content prior to entering the rating; and   responsive to determining that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating, providing an indication that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating or weighting the rating based on the determination that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating of the first media content.   
     
     
         2 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the rating of the first media content is a like or dislike. 
     
     
         3 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the rating of the first media content is a star rating. 
     
     
         4 . The method of  claim 3 , wherein the star rating is on a scale of one to five stars. 
     
     
         5 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the rating of the first media content is a comment. 
     
     
         6 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein determining whether the user consumed the first media content prior to entering the rating is based at least in part on history data associated with consumption of the first media content by the user. 
     
     
         7 . The method of  claim 6 , wherein the history data associated with consumption of the first media content by the user comprises device usage, the device usage associated with a device that is associated with the user. 
     
     
         8 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein determining, responsive to the indication that the user has entered the rating of the first media content, whether the user consumed the first media content prior to entering the rating comprises determining whether the user consumed at least a threshold portion of the first media content. 
     
     
         9 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein providing the indication that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating or weighting the rating based on the determination that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating of the first media content, comprises weighting the rating based on the determination that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating of the first media content. 
     
     
         10 . The method of  claim 9 , wherein the determination that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating of the first media content determines that the user did not complete consumption of the first media content. 
     
     
         11 . The method of  claim 10 , wherein the determination that the user did not complete consumption of the first media content determines that the user consumed a segment of the first media content, the segment of the first media content comprising less than the complete consumption of the media content. 
     
     
         12 . The method of  claim 11 , wherein weighting the rating is based on a duration of the segment relative to the complete consumption of the media content. 
     
     
         13 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein determining, responsive to the indication that the user has entered the rating of the first media content, whether the user consumed the first media content prior to entering the rating uses machine learning. 
     
     
         14 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein the machine learning is based on historical domain or user event data. 
     
     
         15 . The method of  claim 13 , wherein providing the indication that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating or weighting the rating based on the determination that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating of the first media content, comprises weighting the rating using the machine learning. 
     
     
         16 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the first media content is audio content or audio-visual content, and wherein determining, responsive to the indication that the user has entered the rating of the first media content, whether the user consumed the first media content prior to entering the rating comprises determining that the user selected a play event, stop event, start event, a state change event, or channel change event associated with a media player. 
     
     
         17 . The method of  claim 16 , wherein providing the indication that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating or weighting the rating based on the determination that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating of the first media content, comprises weighting the rating based on the determination that the user selected the play event, the stop event, the start event, the state change event, or the channel change event associated with the media player. 
     
     
         18 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the method is performed on a server, the server remote from a user device. 
     
     
         19 . The method of  claim 18 , wherein providing the indication that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating or weighting the rating based on the determination that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating of the first media content, comprises providing the indication that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating of the first media content. 
     
     
         20 . The method of  claim 19 , responsive to the indication that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating, deferring upload or usage of the rating based on the indication. 
     
     
         21 . The method of  claim 19 , responsive to the indication that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating, weighting the rating based on the indication. 
     
     
         22 . The method of  claim 1 , wherein the indication that the user has entered the rating of first media content is received from a site visited by the user, the site providing the first media content and enabling entry of the rating. 
     
     
         23 . The method of  claim 22 , wherein the determining, responsive to the indication that the user has entered the rating of the first media content, whether the user consumed the first media content prior to entering the rating is determined based on implicit or explicit events associated with the user and received or recorded through the site visited by the user. 
     
     
         24 . The method of  claim 22 , wherein the providing the indication that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating or weighting the rating based on the determination that the user did not consume the first media content prior to entering the rating of the first media content, affects a general rating of the first media content, the affected general rating presented or associated with the site.
