System and method for electronic device access
Abstract
Techniques for electronic device access are discussed. In one embodiment, data indicative of a card number associated with a bank-issued debit card is received at a computing device. The debit card is associated with a bank account at a bank that issued the bank-issued debit card. The computing device also receives data related to a check to be deposited into the bank account and routes encrypted data indicative of the card number and the data associated with the check to a gateway vendor server from where it is further routed to a payment network server for deposit of an amount indicated by the data associated with the check into the bank account associated with the card number.

1 . A method for electronic device access, the method comprising:
receiving, during processing of a sale transaction at a point of sale device of a retailer, data related to a check to be deposited into a bank account of a customer making a purchase after a portion of funds from the check is used to pay for the purchase being made by the customer at the point of sale device, the data relating to the check to be deposited into the bank account of the customer including a face value of the check; routing, via the point of sale device and during the processing of the sale transaction, the data related to the check for deposit of an amount indicated by the data related to the check into the bank account of the customer, wherein the amount is a remaining amount from the face value of the check that is deposited into the bank account of the customer after the point-of-sale device, during the processing of the sale transaction, deducts from the face value of the check:
an amount associated with the purchase made by the customer at the point of sale device; and
a check processing fee charged against the face value of the check by a retail store for the processing of the check of the customer via the point of sale device such that:
a portion of the face value of the check is used to pay for the purchase being made by the customer at the point of sale device;
a portion of the face value of the check is used to pay for the check processing fee charged by the retailer; and
the remaining amount from the face value of the check is deposited into the bank account of the customer;
determining, via the point of sale device, whether the remaining amount from the face value of the check is above a predetermined minimum deposit amount and:
if the remaining amount from the face value of the check is above the predetermined minimum deposit amount, depositing the remaining amount from the face value of the check into the bank account of the customer; and
if the remaining amount from the face value of the check is below the predetermined minimum deposit amount, not depositing the remaining amount from the face value of the check into the bank account of the customer, and refunding the remaining amount from the face value of the check to the customer in cash; and
displaying to the customer on a display associated with the point of sale device a confirmation of the amount deposited into the bank account.
2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising sending the data related to the check to a third-party server to perform a fraud check.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a debit card number of the customer is received at the point of sale device when the debit card is swiped or scanned at the point of sale device.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a fraud check is performed by a gateway vendor server based at least in part on information provided by a user at the point of sale device.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a fraud check is performed by a payment network server based at least in part on information provided by a user at the point of sale device.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein a fraud check is performed by a bank server based at least in part on information provided by a user at the point of sale device.
7 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising:
comparing, at the point of sale device, at least one digit of the debit card number of the customer to a plurality of stored card numbers in a database associated with the point of sale device to determine whether the debit card number exists in the database; and determining a match between the at least one digit of the debit card number and a stored card number of the plurality of stored card numbers stored in the database.
8 . A system for electronic device access, the system comprising:
a point of sale device configured to:
receive, during processing of a sale transaction at a point of sale device of a retailer, data related to a check to be deposited into a bank account of a customer making a purchase after a portion of funds from the check is used to pay for the purchase being made by the customer at the point of sale device, the data related to the check to be deposited into the bank account of the customer including a face value of the check;
route, during the processing of the sale transaction, the data related to the check for deposit of an amount indicated by the data related to the check into the bank account of the customer, wherein the amount is a remaining amount from the face value of the check that is deposited into the bank account of the customer after the point-of-sale device, during the processing of the sale transaction, deducts from the face value of the check:
an amount associated with the purchase made by the customer at the point of sale device; and
a check processing fee charged against the face value of the check by the retailer for the processing of the check of the customer via the point of sale device such that:
a portion of the face value of the check is used to pay for the purchase being made by the customer at the point of sale;
a portion of the face value of the check is used to pay for the check processing fee charged by the retailer; and
the remaining amount from the face value of the check is deposited into the bank account of the customer;
determine whether the remaining amount from the face value of the check is above a predetermined minimum deposit amount and:
if the remaining amount from the face value of the check is above the predetermined minimum deposit amount, depositing the remaining amount from the face value of the check into the bank account of the customer; and
if the remaining amount from the face value of the check is below the predetermined minimum deposit amount, not depositing the remaining amount from the face value of the check into the bank account of the customer, and refunding the remaining amount from the face value of the check to the customer in cash; and
displaying to the customer on a display associated with the point of sale device a confirmation of the amount deposited into the bank account.
9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein a debit card number of the customer is received at the point of sale device when the debit card is swiped or scanned at the point of sale device.
10 . The system of claim 8 , wherein a fraud check is performed by a gateway vendor server based at least in part on information provided by a user at the point of sale device.
11 . The system of claim 8 , wherein a fraud check is performed by a payment network server based at least in part on information provided by a user at the point of sale device.
12 . The system of claim 8 , wherein a fraud check is performed by a bank server based at least in part on information provided by a user at the point of sale device.
13 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the point of sale device is further configured to:
compare, at the point of sale device, at least one digit of the debit card number to a plurality of stored card numbers in a database associated with the point of sale device to determine whether the debit card number exists in the database; and determine a match between the at least one digit of the debit card number and a stored card number of the plurality of stored card numbers stored in the database.
14 . A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions executable by a processing device, wherein execution of the instructions causes the processing device to implement a method for electronic device access, the method comprising:
receiving, during processing of a sale transaction at a point of sale device of a retailer, data related to a check to be deposited into a bank account of a customer making a purchase after a portion of funds from the check is used to pay for the purchase being made by the customer at the point of sale device, the data relating to the check to be deposited into the bank account of the customer including a face value of the check; routing, via the point of sale device and during the processing of the sale transaction, the data related to the check for deposit of an amount indicated by the data related to the check into the bank account of the customer, wherein the amount is a remaining amount from the face value of the check that is deposited into the bank account of the customer after the point-of-sale device, during the processing of the sale transaction, deducts from the face value of the check:
an amount associated with the purchase made by the customer at the point of sale device; and
a check processing fee charged against the face value of the check by a retail store for the processing of the check of the customer via the point of sale device such that:
a portion of the face value of the check is used to pay for the purchase being made by the customer at the point of sale device;
a portion of the face value of the check is used to pay for the check processing fee charged by the retailer; and
the remaining amount from the face value of the check is deposited into the bank account of the customer;
determining, via the point of sale device, whether the remaining amount from the face value of the check is above a predetermined minimum deposit amount and:
if the remaining amount from the face value of the check is above the predetermined minimum deposit amount, depositing the remaining amount from the face value of the check into the bank account of the customer; and
if the remaining amount from the face value of the check is below the predetermined minimum deposit amount, not depositing the remaining amount from the face value of the check into the bank account of the customer, and refunding the remaining amount from the face value of the check to the customer in cash; and
displaying to the customer on a display associated with the point of sale device a confirmation of the amount deposited into the bank account.
15 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein a debit card number of the customer is received at the point of sale device when the debit card is swiped or scanned at the point of sale device.
16 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , further comprising:
comparing, at the point of sale device, at least one digit of the debit card number of the customer to a plurality of stored card numbers in a database associated with the point of sale device to determine whether the debit card number exists in the database; and determining a match between the at least one digit of the debit card number and a stored card number of the plurality of stored card numbers stored in the database.
17 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , further comprising sending the data associated with the check to a third-party server to perform a fraud check.
18 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the fraud check is performed by a gateway vendor server based at least in part on information provided by a user at the point of sale device.
19 . The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the fraud check is performed by a payment network server based at least in part on information provided by a user at the point of sale device.
