Abstract

Disclosed herein is a joint replacement system and a method of performing surgery. The joint replacement system may include a first implant having a marker, a second implant having a reader to detect the marker, and a processor in communication with the second implant. The processor may include different algorithms based on the first and second implants. The method may comprise the steps of receiving first information related to a first implant, receiving second information related to a second implant, selecting an algorithm based on the first and second information; and receiving data from the first and second implants utilizing the algorithm.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A method of performing surgery, the method comprising the steps of:
receiving first information related to a first implant; receiving second information related to a second implant; selecting an algorithm based on the first and second information; and receiving data from the first and second implants utilizing the algorithm.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first information is a size of the first implant and the second information is a size of the second implant.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first implant is implanted on a first bone and the second implant is implanted on a second bone.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first implant includes a marker and the second implant includes a reader.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the marker is a magnet and the reader is a magnetic sensor.

6 . The method of claim 5 , wherein the magnetic sensor is a Hall sensor assembly including at least one Hall sensor.

7 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the algorithm is included in a software package in communication with the reader.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the data includes kinematic information.

9 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first and second information is manually inputted.

10 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the information as to the first and second sizes is received from an RFID chip.

11 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the first and second information is determined by magnetic readings.

         12 . A joint replacement system comprising:
a first implant having a marker; a second implant having a reader to detect the marker, and a processor in communication with the second implant, the processor including different algorithms based on the first and second implants.

13 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the processor includes different algorithms based on a size of the first and second implants.

14 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the first implant is a femoral implant and the second implant is a tibial implant.

15 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the marker is a magnet and the reader is a magnetic sensor.

16 . The system of claim 15 , wherein the magnetic sensor is a Hall sensor assembly including at least one Hall sensor.

17 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the processor receives kinematic information from the reader.

18 . The system of claim 12 , wherein the first implant includes a first RFID chip and the second implant includes a second RFID chip, the first and second RFID chips providing implant size information to the processor.

19 . A surgical procedure comprising the steps of:
implanting a first implant on a first bone, the first implant including a marker; implanting a second implant on a second bone, the second implant including a reader, the reader configured to detect the marker; connecting the reader with a processor; providing the processor with a first size of the first implant and a second size of the second implant; and reviewing data obtained by the processor, where the data is based upon the first and second sizes.

20 . The surgical procedure of claim 19 , wherein the providing step includes manually inputting the first and second sizes.

21 . The surgical procedure of claim 19 , wherein the providing step includes receiving the first and second sizes from RFID chips.
