Data collection apparatus for attachment to an injection device
Abstract
A data collection device comprises: a first portion having one or more features configured for attaching of the first portion to a dosage knob of an injection device; a second portion rotatably coupled with the first portion, wherein at least part of the second portion is movable axially relative to the first portion; a sensor arrangement configured to detect rotation of the first portion relative to the second portion; and a processor arrangement configured to, based on said detected movement, determine a medicament amount expelled by the injection device, wherein the coupling arrangement is configured to provide a non-permanent coupling between the first portion and the dosage knob of the injection device.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modified1 - 15 . (canceled)
16 . A data collection device for attachment to an injection device comprising a dose button arranged to cause, upon being pressed, expulsion of a medicament from the injection device, the data collection device comprising:
a first portion comprising a sleeve configured to attach the data collection device to the injection device by engaging a dosage knob of the injection device; a second portion rotatably attached to the first portion, the second portion configured to engage with the dose button of the injection device, wherein the second portion is arranged to press on the dose button when pressure is applied to the second portion; a sensor arrangement configured to detect rotation of the first portion relative to the second portion during the expulsion of the medicament by the injection device; and a processor arrangement configured to, based on the detected movement, determine a medicament amount expelled by the injection device.
17 . The data collection device according to claim 16 , wherein:
the second portion comprises an outer portion having first electrical contacts, the second portion comprises a inner portion having second electrical contacts, and the inner portion is axially movable relative to the outer portion to engage the first electrical contacts with the second electrical contacts when pressure is applied to the outer portion.
18 . The data collection device according to claim 17 , further comprising a piezo-electric generator arranged to power the data collection device when pressure is applied to the outer portion.
19 . The data collection device according to claim 17 , further comprising a timer triggered when the first electrical contacts are engaged and/or disengaged from the second electrical contacts, wherein the data collection device is configured to determine an elapsed time since the timer was last triggered and to generate an alert if the elapsed time is inconsistent with a threshold condition.
20 . The data collection device according to claim 19 , wherein the processor arrangement is configured to
determine a time stamp for the expulsion of the medicament by the injection device by using the timer, cause storing of the determined medicament amount expelled and the time stamp, and cause transmitting of a log of determined medicament amounts expelled and time stamp information to another device.
21 . The data collection device according to claim 16 , configured to switch between a first configuration in which a rotation of the first portion relative to the second portion is prevented, and a second configuration in which the first portion can be rotated relative to the second portion.
22 . The data collection device according to claim 16 , further comprising:
a transfer arrangement arranged to engage the dosage knob of the injection device, wherein the transfer arrangement is configured to rotate the first portion relative to the second portion when the dosage knob rotates.
23 . The data collection device according to claim 22 , wherein the transfer arrangement comprises a friction wheel.
24 . The data collection device according to claim 16 , wherein the first portion has an internal surface formed of a deformable material.
25 . The data collection device according to claim 16 , wherein the first portion has an internal surface configured to mate with external features of the dosage knob of the injection device.
26 . The data collection device according to claim 25 , wherein the internal surface of the first portion includes grooves that correspond in shape with formations on a surface of the dosage knob of the injection device.
27 . The data collection device according to claim 26 , wherein the grooves have mouths at an open end of the first portion.
28 . The data collection device according to claim 26 , wherein the grooves taper to a narrower width away from an open end of the first portion.
29 . The data collection device according to claim 16 , wherein the first portion is provided with one or more external grip features to facilitate gripping of the first portion by a user to affect rotation of the data collection device relative to a housing of the injection device.
30 . The data collection device according to claim 16 , wherein the sensor arrangement comprises one or more of an optical sensor, a magnetic sensor, a capacitive sensor, or a mechanical sensor.
31 . A medicament administration apparatus comprising:
an injection device comprising
a dosage knob configured to rotate as a medicament is expelled from the injection device, and
a dose button arranged to cause expulsion of the medicament from the injection device; and
a data collection device configured to be attached to the injection device, the data collection device comprising
a first portion comprising a sleeve configured to attach the data collection device to the injection device by engaging the dosage knob of the injection device;
a second portion rotatably attached to the first portion, the second portion configured to engage with the dose button of the injection device, wherein the second portion is arranged to press on the dose button when pressure is applied to the second portion;
a sensor arrangement configured to detect rotation of the first portion relative to the second portion during the expulsion of the medicament by the injection device; and
a processor arrangement configured to, based on the detected movement, determine a medicament amount expelled by the injection device.
32 . The medicament administration apparatus according to claim 31 , wherein:
the second portion of the data collection device comprises an outer portion having first electrical contacts, and an inner portion having second electrical contacts, and the inner portion is axially movable relative to the outer portion to engage the first electrical contacts with the second electrical contacts when a pressure is applied to the outer portion.
33 . The medicament administration apparatus according to claim 32 , further comprising a piezo-electric generator arranged to power the data collection device when pressure is applied to the outer portion.
34 . The medicament administration apparatus according to claim 32 , further comprising a timer triggered when the first electrical contacts are engaged and/or disengaged from the second electrical contacts, wherein the data collection device is configured to determine an elapsed time since the timer was last triggered and to generate an alert if the elapsed time is inconsistent with a threshold condition.
35 . The medicament administration apparatus according to claim 31 , wherein the data collection device further comprises a transfer arrangement arranged to engage the dosage knob of the injection device, and
wherein the transfer arrangement is configured to rotate the first portion relative to the second portion when the dosage knob rotates.Cited by (0)
