Releasable Cable Tie

Abstract

A releasable cable tie having a cable tie head, a neck, and a strap body. The cable tie head includes a strap passageway extending from an entrance end at the bottom of the cable tie head to an exit end at the top of the cable tie head. The cable tie head also includes a locking wedge and a release mechanism pivotally connected to the locking wedge. The strap body includes a plurality of teeth on one side of the strap body. The strap body wraps around the cables and extends through the strap passageway engaging the locking wedge to secure cables. When desired, the release mechanism is lifted to disengage the locking wedge from the teeth of the strap body to release the cables.

1 . A releasable one-piece cable tie for bundling cables, the releasable one-piece cable tie comprising:
 a cable tie head, the cable tie head having a first end, a second end, a first side, a second side, a top, a bottom, and a strap passageway extending from an entrance end at the bottom of the cable tie head to an exit end at the top of the cable tie head;   a neck extending from the cable tie head; and   a strap body extending from the neck, wherein the strap body having teeth on one side of the strap body;   wherein the cable tie head having a locking wedge extending from the top of the cable tie head into the strap passageway and a release mechanism pivotally connected to the locking wedge;   whereby the strap body wraps around the cables and extends through the strap passageway in the cable tie head engaging the locking wedge to secure the cables, and the release mechanism is lifted away from the strap body and towards the exit end of the strap passageway to disengage the locking wedge from the teeth of the strap body to release the cables.   
     
     
         2 . The releasable one-piece cable tie of  claim 1 , wherein the release mechanism includes a release tab extending from the top of the cable tie head at the exit end of the strap passageway. 
     
     
         3 . The releasable one-piece cable tie of  claim 1 , wherein the locking wedge is angled downward from the top of the cable tie head towards a first end of the cable tie head. 
     
     
         4 . The releasable one-piece cable tie of  claim 1 , wherein lifting the release mechanism away from the strap body and towards the exit end of the strap passageway rotates the locking wedge counterclockwise away from the strap passageway. 
     
     
         5 . The releasable one-piece cable tie of  claim 1 , wherein the release mechanism is positioned above the neck of the releasable cable tie. 
     
     
         6 . The releasable one-piece cable tie of  claim 1 , wherein the release mechanism rotates the locking wedge from an initial position in the strap passageway to a disengaged position out of the strap passageway. 
     
     
         7 . The releasable one-piece cable tie of  claim 1 , wherein the release mechanism and the locking wedge are positioned at a center of the cable tie head between the first side of the cable tie head and the second side of the cable tie head.
