Abstract

A conversion ring for a portable fire pit allows the portable fire pit to be used within a block fire pit ring. If desired, the owner can remove the fire pit from the conversion ring and the block ring and use it in different locations. The conversion ring and the fire pit can lock together to limit rotational movement after installation. The conversion ring includes locking fingers that cooperate with elements of the fire pit. In one configuration, the locking fingers of the conversion ring cooperate with the legs of the fire pit when the fire pit is installed through the conversion ring.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A fire pit comprising:
a body defining a fire box adapted to receive fuel that will be burned when the fire pit is used; the body including a plurality of legs; and a conversion ring disposed around a portion of the body; the conversion ring engaging the body to prevent rotation of the conversion ring with respect to the body in a reference plane that contains the conversion ring.

2 . The fire pit of claim 1 , wherein the body can slide up and down with respect to the conversion ring.

3 . The fire pit of claim 2 , wherein the body has an upper end; and further comprising a flange connected to the upper end of the body; the flange projecting outwardly from the body; and the conversion ring disposed under the flange and projecting outwardly from the flange.

4 . The fire pit of claim 3 , wherein the conversion ring includes locking fingers that engage the legs.

5 . A conversion ring for a fire pit; the conversion ring comprising:
a ring-shaped body having defining an opening adapted to receive the fire pit; and the body including an inwardly projecting locking finger.

6 . The conversion ring of claim 5 , wherein the body includes a plurality of inwardly-projecting locking fingers.

7 . The conversion ring of claim 5 , wherein the ring-shaped includes an outer edge and an inner edge; the body defining an opening between the outer and inner edges.

         8 . A fire pit comprising:
an outer fire pit ring; a portable fire pit having a body, a plurality of legs, and an upper flange disposed within the outer fire pit ring; and a conversion ring extending between the portable fire pit and the outer fire pit ring.

9 . The fire pit of claim 8 , wherein the upper flange of the portable fire pit is above the conversion ring.

10 . The fire pit of claim 9 , wherein the conversion ring rests on the outer fire pit ring.

11 . The fire pit of claim 8 , wherein the conversion ring engages the portable fire pit to prevent relative rotation between the fire pit and the conversion ring.

12 . The fire pit of claim 11 , wherein the conversion ring includes an inwardly projecting locking finger that engages the first pit.

13 . The fire pit of claim 12 , wherein the locking finger engages a leg of the fire pit.

14 . The fire pit of claim 11 , wherein the conversion ring includes first and second inwardly projecting locking fingers; a portion of one of the legs of the fire pit being located between the first and second locking fingers.

15 . The fire pit of claim 8 , wherein the body of the portable fire pit includes a sidewall; the conversion ring being disposed in a first reference plane substantially perpendicular to the sidewall.

16 . The fire pit of claim 15 , wherein the conversion ring includes first and second locking fingers; a portion of one of the legs disposed between the first and second locking fingers to prevent the conversion ring from rotating with respect to the fire box.

17 . The fire pit of claim 16 , wherein the first and second locking fingers extend inwardly from an inner edge of the conversion ring toward the sidewall; the first and second locking fingers being parallel to the first reference plane.
