Abstract

An aqueous polymeric particle dispersion, the particle comprises a polymer and a Si—O-containing moiety, the Si—O-containing moiety is part of a compound, the compound forming a solid mixture with the polymer. The resin particles can be incorporated in aqueous printing liquids such as aqueous inkjet inks.

An aqueous particle dispersion comprising a polymer and a Si—O-containing moiety, wherein (a) the Si—O-containing moiety is of Formula I and is part of a compound, the compound forming a solid mixture with the polymer:

         R 1 , R 2 , and R 3  each independently represent hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, or heteroalkyl group; 
         L is a linking group, —OR 4 , or R 4 ; 
         R 4  is hydrogen or an optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, or heteroalkyl group, or 
         (b) the Si—O-containing moiety is of Formula II and is linked to the polymer:

         R 5 , R 6 , and R 7  each independently represent an optionally substituted alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, or heteroalkyl group and

         15 . The aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 14 , wherein the particle is a capsule consisting of a core and a shell, wherein the shell comprises the polymer. 
     
     
         16 . The aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 14 , wherein the polymer is selected from the group consisting of polyureas, polyurethanes, polyurea-urethanes, polyesters, polycarbonates, polyamides, melamine-based polymers, and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         17 . The aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 15 , wherein the polymer is selected from the group consisting of polyureas, polyurethanes, polyurea-urethanes, polyesters, polycarbonates, polyamides, melamine-based polymers, and mixtures thereof. 
     
     
         18 . The aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 14 , wherein the aqueous particle dispersion comprises (a) a compound comprising a Si—O-containing moiety of Formula III or (b) a Si—O-containing moiety of Formula IV linked to the polymer:

         X is NH, NR, or O; 
         Y is NH, NR, O, or a carbonyl moiety, and

         20 . The aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 15 , wherein a dispersing group is covalently bonded to the polymer. 
     
     
         21 . The aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 17 , wherein a dispersing group is covalently bonded to the polymer. 
     
     
         22 . The aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 19 , wherein a dispersing group is covalently bonded to the polymer. 
     
     
         23 . The aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 20 , wherein the dispersing group is selected from the group consisting of a carboxylic acid or salt thereof, a sulfonic acid or salt thereof, a phosphoric acid ester or a salt thereof, and a phosphonic acid or salt thereof. 
     
     
         24 . The aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 22 , wherein the dispersing group is selected from the group consisting of a carboxylic acid or salt thereof, a sulfonic acid or salt thereof, a phosphoric acid ester or a salt thereof, and a phosphonic acid or salt thereof. 
     
     
         25 . The aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 20 , wherein the dispersing group is selected from the group consisting of a protonated amine, a protonated nitrogen containing heteroaromatic group, a quaternized tertiary amine, a N-quaternized heteroaromatic group, a sulfonium, and a phosphonium. 
     
     
         26 . An aqueous inkjet ink comprising a colorant and the aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 14 . 
     
     
         27 . An aqueous inkjet ink comprising a colorant and the aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 15 . 
     
     
         28 . The aqueous inkjet ink according  claim 26 , further comprising a water-soluble organic solvent. 
     
     
         29 . The aqueous inkjet ink according  claim 26 , wherein the colorant is a pigment. 
     
     
         30 . An aqueous treatment liquid for inkjet printing comprising the aqueous particle dispersion of  claim 20 . 
     
     
         31 . The aqueous treatment liquid of  claim 30 , further comprising a flocculating agent selected from the group consisting of a cationic polymer, a multivalent metal ion, and an organic acid. 
     
     
         32 . An inkjet recording method comprising the steps of:
 a) jetting an inkjet ink as defined in  claim 26  on a substrate; and   b) drying the jetted inkjet ink by applying heat to obtain a temperature of the jetted ink of at least 80° C.   
     
     
         33 . The inkjet recording method of  claim 32 , wherein, prior to step a), an aqueous treatment liquid comprising a flocculating agent selected from the group consisting of a multivalent salt and a cationic polymer, is applied on the substrate.
