. A device adapted to generate and emit a directional air flow, the device including:
a hollow body which includes a broader part housing a fan adapted for generating an air flow, which air flow can be flushed out of the housing via an elongate conduit within a narrower part of the hollow body; wherein the hollow body also includes a slot or aperture adapted to receive a sample of a fragrance composition on a suitable support; wherein the housing is fixed on a holder by means of an optional flexible foot which is adapted to allow orientation of the conduit in a plurality of directions; wherein, during operation of the device, the fan generates a directional air flow, which passes over a sample thereby to entrain the fragrance composition and create a scented plume that passes through the conduit and is emitted into a channel defined by panels (ABCD) and (EFGH), which panels suppress undesirable lateral room convection, wherein a top of a channel ABEF) is open, to thereby enable an evaluator to assess the scented plume at different distances along the channel.

. The device according to claim 12 , which further comprises a conical part between the broader part and the narrower part, wherein the inner diameter of the hollow body is progressively reduced from the broader part to the narrower part, which progressive reduction minimizes turbulences in the air flow.

. The device according to claim 12 , wherein the housing further comprises a thermo-regulated element for heating the sample.

. The device according to claim 12 , wherein the panels (ABCD) and (EFGH) are parallel.

. The device according to claim 12 , wherein the length of segments CD and GH is at least 0.5 m.

. The device according to claim 12 , wherein the length of segments CD and GH is at least 1 m.

. The device according to claim 17 , wherein the length of segments CD and GH are at least 1.5 m.
