Automatic issue identification and status notification of screensharing in a virtual meeting
Abstract
A virtual meeting server and method to provide automatic status notifications of screensharing status between a presenter device sharing a screen with at least one participant device during a screensharing session, including a channel module to establish and maintain communication channels between the presenter and participant devices for transmitting signals to set up the screensharing session and data, including content frames, used in the screensharing session, a detection module to detect an acknowledgement response that the participant device has received the content, an analysis engine to analyze and determine a status of the screensharing session based on analyzing the acknowledgement response, and a notification module to send a status notification to the presenter device and the participant device, wherein the status notification indicates whether connection for the screensharing session has been established and is being maintained between the presenter device and the participant device.

21 . A virtual meeting server configured to provide automatic status notifications of screensharing status between a presenter device sharing a screen with at least one participant device during a screensharing session, the server comprising:
a processor; and a memory coupled to the processor for storing a content-share notification application, wherein the content-share notification application includes:
a channel module configured to establish and maintain communication channels between the presenter device and the at least one participant device during the screensharing session for transmitting signals used to set up the screensharing session and data used in the screensharing session, the data including screensharing content frames of the shared screen from the presenter device to the at least one participant device;
a detection module configured to detect an acknowledgement response from the at least one participant device that the at least one participant device has received the content frames from the presenter device;
an analysis engine configured to analyze and determine a status of the screensharing session based on analyzing the acknowledgement response; and
a notification module configured to send a status notification to at least one of the presenter device and the at least one participant device, wherein the status notification indicates whether connection for the screensharing session has been established and is being maintained between the presenter device and the at least one participant device.
22 . The virtual meeting server of claim 21 , wherein the status notification is a live status indicator providing continuous data about health of the screensharing session.
23 . The virtual meeting server of claim 22 , wherein the status notification includes an indication if an issue is presented in either establishing the connection for the screensharing session or maintaining the connection for the screensharing session once an initial connection for the screensharing session has been established between the presenter device and the at least one participant device.
24 . The virtual meeting server of claim 23 , wherein, when the status notification includes the indication that an issue is presented, the status notification includes action guidance to improve quality of the screensharing session.
25 . The virtual meeting server of claim 21 , wherein the analysis engine is configured to analyze and determine a status of the screensharing session based on whether an acknowledgement response is received within a predetermined time after the content frames of the shared screen have been transmitted from the presenter device to the at least one participant device.
26 . The virtual meeting server of claim 21 , wherein the analysis engine is configured to analyze and determine a status of the screensharing session based on a resolution of the content frames received by the at least one participant device indicated in the acknowledgement response.
27 . The virtual meeting server of claim 21 , wherein channel module is configured to transmit target attributes transmitted by the presenter device with the content frames, wherein the target attributes indicate time and quality attributes of the content frames.
28 . The virtual meeting server of claim 27 , wherein the target attributes include a starting timestamp indicating a time when one of the content frames was sent from the presenter device and an end timestamp indicating a time the at least one participant device is targeted to receive the one of the content frames.
29 . The virtual meeting server of claim 27 , wherein the target attributes include a resolution of each of the content frames that the at least one participant device is targeted to receive.
30 . The virtual meeting server of claim 21 , wherein the status notification indicates a connection status when the at least one participant device is in the process of receiving the content frames, before the acknowledgement response has been received by the content-share notification application.
31 . The virtual meeting server of claim 21 , wherein the status notification indicates an issue presenting status as to whether the content frames have been received by the at least one participant device within a predetermined time and whether a quality of the content frames received by the at least one participant device satisfies a threshold quality.
32 . The virtual meeting server of claim 21 , wherein the status notification is sent by the notification module to the presenter device.
33 . The virtual meeting server of claim 32 , wherein the status notification sent by the notification module to the presenter device includes an indication of which one or more of a plurality of participant devices have a problem receiving the content frames in the screensharing session.
34 . The virtual meeting server of claim 33 , wherein the status notification sent by the notification module to the presenter device includes an indication of appropriate action for the one or more of the participant devices that have a problem receiving the content frames in the screensharing session to take to address the problem.
35 . The virtual meeting server of claim 21 , wherein the status notification is sent by the notification module to the at least one participant device.
36 . A method to provide automatic status notifications, via a virtual meeting server, of screensharing status between a presenter device sharing a screen with at least one participant device during a screensharing session, the method comprising:
establishing and maintaining communication channels between the presenter device and the at least one participant device during the screensharing session for transmitting signals used to set up the screensharing session and data used in the screensharing session, the data including screensharing content frames of the shared screen from the presenter device to the at least one participant device; detecting an acknowledgement response from the at least one participant device that the at least one participant device has received the content frames; analyzing and determining a status of the screensharing session based on analyzing the acknowledgement response; and sending a status notification to at least one of the presenter device and the at least one participant device, wherein the status notification indicates whether connection for the screensharing session has been established and is being maintained between the presenter device and the at least one participant device.
37 . The method of claim 36 , wherein the status notification is a live status indicator providing continuous data about health of the screensharing session.
38 . The method of claim 37 , wherein the status notification includes an indication if an issue is presented in either establishing the connection for the screensharing session or maintaining the connection for the screensharing session once an initial connection for the screensharing session has been established between the presenter device and the at least one participant device.
39 . The method of claim 38 , wherein, when the status notification includes the indication that an issue is presented, the status notification includes action guidance to improve quality of the screensharing session.
40 . A virtual meeting server configured to provide automatic status notifications of screensharing status between a presenter device sharing a screen with at least one participant device during a screensharing session, the server comprising:
a processor; and a memory coupled to the processor for storing a content-share notification application which, when executed by the processor, causes the processor, alone or in combination with other processors, to perform the following functions:
establishing and maintaining communication channels between the presenter device and the at least one participant device during the screensharing session for transmitting signals used to set up the screensharing session and data used in the screensharing session, the data including screensharing content frames of the shared screen from the presenter device to the at least one participant device;
detecting an acknowledgement response from the at least one participant device that the at least one participant device has received the content frames;
analyzing and determining a status of the screensharing session based on analyzing the acknowledgement response; and
sending a status notification to at least one of the presenter device and the at least one participant device, wherein the status notification indicates whether connection for the screensharing session has been established and is being maintained between the presenter device and the at least one participant device.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
