Abstract

A medical appliance or prosthesis may comprise one or more layers of rotational spun nanofibers, including rotational spun polymers. The rotational spun material may comprise layers including layers of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Rotational spun nanofiber mats of certain porosities may permit tissue ingrowth into or attachment to the prosthesis. Additionally, one or more cuffs may be configured to allow tissue ingrowth to anchor the prosthesis.

         31 . A stent comprising:
 a frame configured to resist radial compression when disposed in a lumen of a patient; and   a covering coupled to the framing, the covering comprising:
 a first layer of rotational spun polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) disposed on an inside surface of the stent; 
 a tie layer coupled to the first layer, wherein the tie layer is impervious to cell migration into the tie layer; and 
 a second layer of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), wherein the tie layer is disposed between the first layer and the second layer. 
   
     
     
         32 . The stent of  claim 31 , wherein the second layer comprises a porous layer. 
     
     
         33 . The stent of  claim 31 , wherein the second layer comprises expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). 
     
     
         34 . The stent of  claim 31 , wherein the frame is disposed between the first and second layers. 
     
     
         35 . The stent of  claim 31 , wherein the tie layer comprises fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP). 
     
     
         36 . The stent of  claim 35 , wherein the tie layer comprises a dip coating of FEP. 
     
     
         37 . The stent of  claim 35 , wherein the tie layer comprises a spray coating of FEP. 
     
     
         38 . The stent of  claim 35 , wherein the tie layer comprises a sheet of FEP disposed around the first layer. 
     
     
         39 . The stent of  claim 31 , wherein the tie layer is bonded to the first and second layers by melting the tie layer. 
     
     
         40 . The stent of  claim 31 , wherein the tie layer is non-porous and non-fibrous. 
     
     
         41 . A medical appliance comprising:
 a first layer of rotational spun polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) disposed on an inside surface of the medical appliance;   a tie layer coupled to the first layer, wherein the tie layer is impervious to cell migration into the tie layer; and   a second layer of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), wherein the tie layer is disposed between the first layer and the second layer.   
     
     
         42 . The medical appliance of  claim 41 , wherein the second layer comprises a porous layer. 
     
     
         43 . The medical appliance of  claim 41 , wherein the second layer comprises expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). 
     
     
         44 . The medical appliance of  claim 41 , wherein the tie layer comprises fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP). 
     
     
         45 . The medical appliance of  claim 44 , wherein the tie layer comprises a dip coating of FEP. 
     
     
         46 . The medical appliance of  claim 44 , wherein the tie layer comprises a spray coating of FEP.
