Claims

Abstract

A fluid source comprises a connector assembly for connecting a fluid supply device to either a first therapy device or to a second therapy device. A controller automatically provides a first configuration of a user interface associated with a first therapy when a supply connector is operatively coupled to the first therapy device and provides a second configuration of the user interface associated with a second therapy, different than the first configuration, when the supply connector is operatively coupled to the second therapy device. A hanger assembly is provided to hang the fluid source on different support structures. The fluid source also comprises a housing with a watershed region to shed liquid away from the user interface.

What is claimed is: 
     
         1 . A fluid source for supplying fluid to a therapy device to provide one or more of a first therapy and a second therapy to a patient, the fluid source comprising:
 a housing comprising an indicator panel;   a fluid supply device disposed within the housing;   a controller operatively coupled to the fluid supply device to control operation of the fluid supply device;   a user interface operatively coupled to the controller to enable a user to provide input to operate the fluid supply device to provide the one or more of the first therapy and the second therapy; and   an indicator light operatively coupled to the controller and disposed beneath the indicator panel, the indicator light configured to illuminate one or more of a first symbol associated with the first therapy and a second symbol associated with the second therapy.   
     
     
         2 . The fluid source of  claim 1 , wherein the indicator light is further defined as a first indicator light, the first indicator light being configured to illuminate the first symbol associated with the first therapy in response to the user providing input to operate the fluid supply device to provide the first therapy to the patient. 
     
     
         3 . The fluid source of  claim 2 , comprising a second indicator light operatively coupled to the controller and disposed beneath the indicator panel, the second indicator light being configured to illuminate the second symbol associated with the second therapy in response to the user providing input to operate the fluid supply device to provide the second therapy to the patient. 
     
     
         4 . The fluid source of  claim 3 , wherein the first symbol associated with the first therapy is further defined as a low air loss symbol and the second symbol associated with the second therapy is further defined as a turn assist symbol. 
     
     
         5 . The fluid source of  claim 4 , wherein the first symbol and the second symbol are etched into the indicator panel to be illuminated by the first and second indicator lights. 
     
     
         6 . The fluid source of  claim 3 , comprising a third indicator light operatively coupled to the controller and disposed beneath the indicator panel, the third indicator light being configured to illuminate a third symbol associated with a locking function in response to the user providing input to lock operation of the fluid supply device. 
     
     
         7 . The fluid source of  claim 6 , wherein the third symbol is etched into the indicator panel to be illuminated by the third indicator light. 
     
     
         8 . The fluid source of  claim 1 , comprising a hanger assembly coupled to the housing, wherein the indicator panel comprises a front surface of the housing opposite the hanger assembly so that the user is able to remotely view the one or more of the first symbol associated with the first therapy and the second symbol associated with the second therapy being illuminated through the front surface when the fluid source is hanging on a support structure. 
     
     
         9 . The fluid source of  claim 8 , wherein the hanger assembly includes a hanger pivotable from a stowed position, in which the hanger is disposed adjacent to the housing, to a plurality of discrete extended positions, in which the hanger extends away from the housing at varying distances to accommodate hanging the fluid source on different support structures. 
     
     
         10 . The fluid source of  claim 9 , wherein the hanger assembly includes a detent mechanism coupled to the hanger, with the detent mechanism comprising a first detent element and a second detent element, the first detent element being coupled to the hanger to rotate with the hanger relative to the second detent element from the stowed position to each of the plurality of discrete extended positions. 
     
     
         11 . The fluid source of  claim 9 , comprising a second hanger movable from a stowed position, in which the second hanger is disposed adjacent to the housing, to a plurality of discrete extended positions, in which the second hanger extends away from the housing at varying distances to accommodate hanging the fluid source on the different support structures. 
     
     
         12 . The fluid source of  claim 1 , wherein the user interface comprises a display operatively coupled to the controller, the controller configured to generate and output on the display the one or more of the first symbol associated with the first therapy and the second symbol associated with the second therapy. 
     
     
         13 . The fluid source of  claim 1 , wherein the user interface includes a periphery having a front peripheral portion, a rear peripheral portion, and a side peripheral portion; and
 wherein the housing comprises a watershed region peripherally surrounding the user interface and including at least one raised portion shaped to allow any liquid that reaches the user interface to fall by gravity off the user interface and past the watershed region.   
     
     
         14 . The fluid source of  claim 13 , wherein the watershed region includes a front raised portion being raised relative to the front peripheral portion of the user interface, a rear raised portion being raised relative to the rear peripheral portion of the user interface, and a side runoff portion adjacent to the side peripheral portion of the user interface; and
 wherein the front raised portion, the rear raised portion, and the side runoff portions are shaped to allow any liquid that reaches the user interface between the raised portions to fall by gravity off the user interface and past the watershed region.   
     
     
         15 . The fluid source of  claim 14 , wherein the periphery has a second side peripheral portion and the watershed region comprises a second side runoff portion adjacent the side peripheral portion of the user interface and shaped to allow any liquid that reaches the user interface between the raised portions to fall by gravity off the user interface and past the watershed region. 
     
     
         16 . The fluid source of  claim 13 , wherein the housing comprises a casing and a watershed panel mounted to the casing to define the watershed region. 
     
     
         17 . A fluid source for supplying fluid to a therapy device to provide one or more of a first therapy and a second therapy to a patient, the fluid source comprising:
 a housing;   a fluid supply device disposed within the housing;   a controller operatively coupled to the fluid supply device to control operation of the fluid supply device; and   a user interface operatively coupled to the controller to enable a user to provide input to operate the fluid supply device, the user interface comprising a periphery having a front peripheral portion, a rear peripheral portion, and a side peripheral portion;   wherein the housing comprises a watershed region peripherally surrounding the user interface and including at least one raised portion shaped to allow any liquid that reaches the user interface to fall by gravity off the user interface and past the watershed region.   
     
     
         18 . The fluid source of  claim 17 , wherein the watershed region includes a front raised portion being raised relative to the front peripheral portion of the user interface, a rear raised portion being raised relative to the rear peripheral portion of the user interface, and a side runoff portion adjacent to the side peripheral portion of the user interface; and
 wherein the front raised portion, the rear raised portion, and the side runoff portions are shaped to allow any liquid that reaches the user interface between the raised portions to fall by gravity off the user interface and past the watershed region.   
     
     
         19 . The fluid source of  claim 18 , wherein the periphery has a second side peripheral portion and the watershed region comprises a second side runoff portion adjacent the side peripheral portion of the user interface and shaped to allow any liquid that reaches the user interface between the raised portions to fall by gravity off the user interface and past the watershed region. 
     
     
         20 . The fluid source of  claim 17 , wherein the housing comprises a casing and a watershed panel mounted to the casing to define the watershed region.
